Sections that ruin good games for you ?

The [censored] fade.

God, I'm right with you there. I dreaded that quest.

And, not that its required or anything, but I had to delete my character that went to the CoW (yes, we shall call The College of Winterhold CoW from now on.) because it was just so awful it spoiled the whole play through for me. I didn't even start the second quest, I thought it was that bad.

In response to that, my Telvanni character decided that he would raid the CoW for all its knowledge and make it his new tower; his current abode had no roof. But, alas, there are like 5 essentials.

A classic example: Labyrinth Zone and Scrap Brain Act 3 from Sonic 1.

Those levels.

Those. [censored]. Levels.

Egg mission in Monster Hunter. Any mission where you have to carry something that makes you completely helpless across three [censored] maps for this [censored] reward and a "you may continue to the fun missions" pass.

I think I had those missions suppressed deep within my subconscious, and you just dragged them out. I remember one where there was a Yian Garuga in the area. :shakehead:

Dead or Alive 4. I didn't like the battle system back then but since DoA on the 3DS came out, I might give it another go if I ever get a 360 again.

I always found the section in Metal Gear Solid IV where you have to stalk the resistance to be fairly tedious, and I never really felt like doing it.

Aliens in Crysis. Too bad it wasn't just a minor section.

This - and underwater levels. Ugh.

Oh, and those Crash Bandicoot levels where you had to run "backwards" with a large boulder or whatever chasing you. :swear:
The massive polar bear being my favourite, there's a bit where you can run forwards again and be teleported to the bonus stage.

While I wouldn't say it ruined the game for me, the sewer trudge to find the Nosferatu Warrens in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines really dragged on the first time I played it. I've played through the game enough times now that I know the sewers and just ignore the paths that lead to dead ends (and sneak past most of the enemies, when I can), but the first time through it was a bit of a trial.

The bit where Uwe Boll tries to make a movie out of it :P

Other than that? The driving mission on Gears 1 really pissed me off, especially on insane!

The second to last level on Halo 3, Cortana, was absolutely ridiculous on Legendary! Poor choices by Bungie there methinks.

The ending of Fallout 2. It's incredibly anti-climatic as you can not only destroy the Enclave without firing a shot (thus rendering the whole faction pointless), their plan was incredibly stupid-insane to justify you mass murdering them and Arroyo suddenly becomes some sort of utopia when you save it.

All those random spawns in Dragon Age II.

Arbitrary mini-games in the zelda series. The one in Oracle of Seasons (where you got the boomerang, which is absolutely required  ), and the whole damned section in Oracle of Ages where before you can get through a dungeon you must complete 5 whole mini-games which are absolutely stupid.

All boss fights in Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Driving sections in Mass Effect.

The intro dungeon in Baldur's Gate 2. Doesn't ruin the game, but tends to put me off a bit. Hurray for mods.

Chapter 11 in Magicka (With the snow Yeti's, dwarves, lava, and the badly timed checkpoints).

I haven't played AC Revelations but I doubt I"ll enjoy the tower defense bits. Hope there aren't too many.

Missions that limit the open world (until you finish them).

Spoiler

-Fable 1 does this after you go to prison.
-Deus Ex: HR does this when you go to that island in the end.
-Skyrim does this in Skuldafn (sp?).

I think I get more irritated with missions that close off bits of the world when they're completed: Ego Draconis, the Bioware games etc are quite bad for this.

Quick-time event

I despise QTE lol I hated the fact they where all over the place in Shenmue; here this guy was a black-belt and couldn't balance himself long enough to walk across a 5 foot 2x4 lol

Anyone remember KotOR II's tutorial level?
I love KOTOR 2 to death, but peragus was a chore. Since I started the game over like 20 times, I got really good at getting through it quickly, I can do it in less than an hour now.

The Library/Cortana from Halo. Most Halo games have fantastic level design, but man it's like the talent just fell out of their brains while they were designing those levels.

Every JRPG?
Modern JRPGs are pretty awful nowadays. I liked Lost Odyssey a lot, but none of the new FFs have been good.

Any part where stealth is required.

Why sneak around? If I wasn't a badass I wouldn't be the main character of this video game, so lemme lock and load, and waste the mother hubbards!

If he was then why does he need to hide in the shadows?

Kick the front door open and mow em down before they have time to react!
