Seriously, about the region lock, there is no hope?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 2:07 am

You really don't get it region locks are not Bestheda's doing, Region locking is nothing new its been around since the original Nintendo system maybe even sooner. Stop riding Bestheda's rear about it

It doesn't happen with other games.
Also, as i said, It didn't happen with the patches: always got them when UK version was out.
Certainly it must be possible to do something about Dawnguard too...

What an ignorant you are. I only had this problem with this game, no other. Is that so hard to understand? Also, they are already working over this... so?

No but you seem to be if you thought that a region lock would never happen on a game.

I'll help you keep this bumped Reptileye, if only to say that Gstaff will answer you when he has something concrete to tell you. He has already replied to the thread so obviously they were onto it from that moment on.

I also challenge your declaration of Bethesda as 'mediocre'. Beth, rockstar and firaxis are the top 3 devs out there IMO! Name other devs who have been consistently as good recently...? Infinity Ward maybe? :P

Firaxis?? With the Civilization V catastrophe?

I think Bethesda, Rockstar, and Creative Assembly perhaps. Firaxis and their murderous treatment of the civ series has thrown them down to spot 5 or 6 by now.

I'm sorry, but defending mediocrity by saying Bethesda Softworks are not the only ones... is sad and i feel sorry for you :(

That's not what he did. He offered a contradiction of Bethesda being "mediocre" by stating that he thought they were one of the "top 3." He wasn't "defending mediocrity" he was opposing your claim about it.

As do I. Beth isn't a mediocre developer in my opinion. They make games like pretty much no other. Even if they screw a thing or two up, such as wildly illogical region locks, they aren't mediocre for that.

No. For me there is:
- Planning a game.
- The art of the game.
- The code for the game.

Bethesda is BRILLIANT in the first two... and svcks like no other in the third. You know i'm right ;)

I agree with this wholeheartedly. Beth has a history of making awesome games. they're just a bit... challenged when it comes to DLC (goes back to Fallout 3 at least, which coincidentally, also was a kick ass game).

Please, at least read my answer to J.D.Onion, and when you give a note to something, you have to see it all, and evaluate the whole thing... and Bethesda's work here with Skyrim is a 5/10 or 6/10. I still love and enjoy the game, but when i think on its full potential is easy to find it the best rpg videogame of history... it's just that... the code... :(

There was a V? ;) I thought that was just them trying to bring civ revolution over from the consoles (FEEL OUR PAIN). Civ IV Beyond the Sword is timeless though. Not sure how they could have topped that in all honesty! Still hopelessly addicted to it to this very day. I'll forgive them a hiccup. :)

And Reptileye, with regards to the coding, do you have ANY IDEA how much of it there is? Im only dimly aware myself, but the workload for Beth in that department most likely dwarfs ANYTHING else out there. It's a miracle they got it working as well as it does in the timeframe they had.

No, I'd pay a visit to the dairy it came from, and pose some very awkward questions.

Seriously, how many other games are there which are comparable in size and scope to TES?

I rarely ever post here, but this has caught my attention.
Im living in Austria (a german speaking country), but i as well as a lot of other dedicated fans use the english version of the game, because we want to enjoy the game with original voice acting
(german oblivion was unbearable, but thx to scharesoft and co. german voice acting and general translations for skyrim are very good) Good decision to get help from native speakers, gamesas.
But even with correct translation, the local voice actors always lack the special something that makes dialogue great, as most of the time, they dont express fear or other emotions properly, its
more like if they simply read their text down in a very neutral and unexcited manner. (For comparison, watch the german trailer for dawnguard - Harkons original voice is simply epic, but the german
one? Correctly translated? Every word. Great voice acting? Meh.) Anyway, my question is, im playing with a pc version, so will i or my friends have the same problems as the xbox gamers at release
or does steam work different? Thx for any answers to that particular question.

Considering the enormous beautiful art world and the enormous amount of gitches and bugs and visual quality reduction of draw distance and the popping in objects and npcs? sure, this one is unique :P but i still love it, it's just that i at least want it as it was on release, seriously, it was far beautiful than now... i actually feel sad with the game now :( before there was a beautiful landscape to see at least... now i just see a big and almost empty golf field... the trees indicates the holes :(

@ reptileye

We can? Didn't even know that. Does that change anything?
If so, why can't the xbox folk change the language? Hardware Limitations?
Still, i hope that problem is solved soon so you all can finally play, even if it
doesnt affect me.

Ps :
If it cheers you up, living here also has downsides -
Non english PC users (aka 90% of all players here)
have to wait even longer to play. 1 Month for translation
and 1 more because of the microsoft deal.

Wut? My game doesn't do that 0.o Tried clearing your cache etc?

Worst I get is the occasional pop-up or temporary draw distance texture fail... Nothing like what you describe though, might be worth putting that in the bugs subforum in all honesty :(
