[Xbox360] Skyrim Bug Instalation Textures Vol. 2

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 10:49 pm

I honestly doubt these recent accusations that its caused by the menu coming in and out. Earlier players of the game would have assuredly thoguht of that before going through the trouble of figuring out something as complex as this HDD issue.....Especially the various news outlets reporting on it.

(Also, lets continue to keep it civil, shall we?)

I don't actually plan to install the game to my HDD and don't know a whole lot about the whole issue... If I just play the game from my disc will there be any problems?

Some people are suddenly jumping ship on the HDD theory and boarding the "in-game menu causes it" train. While its possible, I;m willing to bet that that would've been singled out WAAAAY before anyone considere dit was an HDD issue. I honestly doubt it, unless its ANOTHER unrelated glitch.

Look man you don't have the game yet but i do and so do multiple of my friends,i agree there was a lot of confusion in the beggining on what caused this issue but in the end the neogaf dude managed to single out all other options that where thrown out there and confirm that the ingame menu indeed caused it to blur,i can confirm the same thing after multiple tests ..disc/hdd play ,with patch, it doesn't matter how you play the ingame menu does indeed cause the blur.

Based on what I've gathered from a few dozen accounts, assuming this is still an issue at release, I plan to:

Clear my cache. Install Skyrim to a memory stick. Launch Skyrim and install patches. Save often.

If I still get low-res I will reload my last save.

If I still get low-res then I'll try disc only. Save often.

If that doesn't work then I'll reload my last save.

If that doesn't work I'll try to ignore the textures the best I can and wait for a patch.

I really hope that I don't go any further than the first step of my plan.

I don't have this issue, I did though wipe my 360 hard drive and cache before playing. I never installed just played off the disk and haven't had any issues whatsoever. I have the 2008 xbox and it is hooked up to my HP 23" monitor. I have my pc in there as well. I just keep it all in one area.

Would you mind doing a bit of a test and do this the same way, only with the game installed to the HDD?

I don't have a 360, but without the install the load times are normally much worse from what I have heard and read. Seems like a poor solution.

Much worse for what games?

I've only ever installed 3 games and saw no noticeable load difference. :ermm:

^^^ Good to know, I never tried oblivion.

-NHL 12
-Bioshock 2
-Assassin's Creed 2

I didn't notice any difference.

Especially in NHL 12 which I feel has some brutal load times, I was hoping for a difference and see none.

Pete Hines said it's NOT the HDD. I trust him.

I don't think Hines is lying, I just don't think he understands what the issue is. We're better off tweeting a developer. And we certainly need to know whether its a Menu issue or a HDD issue, that way the developers know wth to fix. Too much contradictory info floating around. I'm pretty sure its a HDD issue, as it has more physical proof. I cannot comprehend why some people who play off the disc would claim its fine, otherwise. They'd have to use the menu eventually.

Okay, I did some testing on textures. It took me a long time, at least an hour. First I cleared the cache and installed the game. Then I was presented with a patch. Upon loading I noticed that the hand textures, more specific the iron gauntlets textures were gone. I walked a round a bit hoping it would load...nothing. Then I entered Riverwood inn hoping that a load forced upon entering buildings would help... nope.

Next I deleted the game from the harddisk and did the same procedure (clear cache etcetera). After a long time the textures reappeared once more. In order to load them I entered the inn again and immediately drew my sword. Walked around a bit, waited, waited and waited. Then finally the textures appeared. Now that I had textures I tested this menu bug that was mentioned. I entered all possible menus but the textures remained.

This procedure was repeated several times to confirm that no textures with harddisk and textures with disc. Perhaps my last test could be that once the textures are loaded I could install the game on the harddisk without clearing the cache... see what happens.

Oh damn. I JUST realized something from watching a few seconds of a vid that displayed some of the issue. THERE ARE POSSIBLY TWO DIFFERENT ISSUES.

The glitch that makes textures come up blurry when exiting the menu, and the glitch from the HDD that makes the textures not load at ALL.

What would happen if we started calling customer support and complaining if it isn't patched immediately upon release?

every test thats been done shows there is very little bennefits to load times, so i dont know what you mean by " much worse ". i myself have never noticed any diffirence

Some games get fairly substantial loading time decreases if installed to the HDD.

Unless you were referring only to Skyrim.

Deus Ex for example gets massive boost in loading when installed.
As far as Skyrim goes i dont think loading will be shorter but rather less frequent.

*confused*

Just so we are clear:

1. There is a significant load time difference on having the game installed...?

and

2. There is no texture problems when playing off disk...?

As tricky mentions I haven't run across a game that loading to the HDD has made a big load-time impact. Some have claimed Oblivion but I haven't tried that.

Exactly

The Last Remnant may be the best example of better performance after an install.
