Skyrim just made me want to play Oblivion

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 11:30 am

70 hours in and I've never not wanted to play Oblivion so much in my life. I'll prolly start a new character on Morrowind after I do about 300 hours on Skyrim.

I have an urge to play Morrowind, but I'll save that for later...after I play through Skyrim with a few different toons.

Am I the only one that hears the word "Oblivion" and gets physically nauseated in my stomach? Bleh. Playing Oblivion again would be like getting the flu.

The graphics mean I can't go back. The Khajiit, Argonians, and Orcs have all made infinitely large leaps forward.

Yes. I missed the forests of Cyrodiil.

It also makes me want to go back to Morrowind.

It's funny, when I played Oblivion, no way I would have returned to Morrowind because of it being older - not graphics, but gameplay and dynamic world were not as good back then (which is logical). But after playing Skyrim, I'll probably pick up Morrowind. It was really good, and I think by now I'm so enthousiastic I could play any elder scrolls title.

I went back and played yesterday on PC, and my immediate thought was "thinks CAN'T be max graphics settings" but it was! I guess that's what happens when you're used to maxed PC Skyrim graphics :)

Oblivion is horrible without mods, and even with mods it's significantly worse than Skyrim

Nope not at all. To this day I have yet to complete Oblivions main quest or the shivering isle expansion and I bought this game a week after release

About 30 hours into Skyrim I got a big craving to play Oblivion, so I downloaded a few mods (Oblivion XP and some other's) and started a new adventure in an old game.

Did this happen to anyone else?

After about 30 hours into Skyrim, all I could think about was how much better the magic system in Oblivion was in every possible way. That still isn't enough to make me want to play that turd of a game though.

I agree with others, playing skyrim makes me want to play more skyrim..so much I stayed up till 3:30 am last night when I needed to be in bed around 1:30-2. I keep hitting a stump on a quest...and its like..."Ok...JUST ONE MORE Quest..and...-completes that mission-OK JUST ONE MORE DUNGEON!" Dungeon diving in this one is just so much more..intense where as Oblivion its mostly copy-pasted dungeons/art. Love finding out about some of these tombs with wizard's in them...just finished second amulet or Gaundur (SP?) Legend...very fun...very intense when you hit a room with 6 coffins, then they all start busting open 2 at a time...

Love the traps in this game, ten times more deadly. Love using the fire/Oil traps against my enemies...using my environment seems to work wonders.

Sneaking is a lot better, specially with Boethiah's Ebony Mail...love the smokey black aura I have. :3

I'd purchase all the Elder Scroll prequals if they had Skyrim's graphics and UI/leveling/etc feel.

You listening Bethesda? (no, lol) But I am not alone. I don't buy a lot of PC games, but I'd definitely buy these...

Bring on the DLC also, purchased or otherwise

Dungeon crawling in skyrim is infinitely more fun. Far cry from the same dungeon maps from previous titles. Those traps are a killer. The ones with the swinging spike doors that fly open always gets me. Don't have much time to react on those, haha

I love Skyrim. My only problem with it is the autrocious UI that we're stuck with on the PC. Hopefully Bethesda is nice enough to make it more PC friendly in a patch or at the very least I'm sure the modders will be able to make it better. And I also miss creating my own spells.

Other then that I love Skyrim. Oblivion can go to hell.

I'll probably never go back to Oblivion again.

To this day, I regret spending $50 on it.

Vanilla Oblivion wasn't any better than Skyrim, i'd say it was worse. Proper mods for this game wont take long once the toolkit is released, i'd rather just wait.

After 113 hours of Skyrim, I want to play more Skyrim.

I haven't finished the MQ yet.
The only guild questlines I've finished are College of Winterhold and Imperial Legion. These were not on the same character.

Yeah, I know exactly what you're saying. I played Oblivion to death, and now Skyrim's making me want to go back to it. I know it's pretty popular to hate Oblivion these days, but I still love it. However, I'll probably play Morrowind before Oblivion again, because Skyrim's atmosphere is really reminding me of it.

Gods no.. it makes me realize just how much I disliked Oblivion but hid that from myself because it was 'shiny and new'. Oblivion svcked! It was so generic, so piss poor in design. I knew that when it first came out but simply because it was 'the next Elder Scrolls' I forced myself to forget that. So thank you Skyrim for making me realize Oblivion's true nature!

Now Morrowind maybe.. but I've put so many hours over the years into that game I don't think I could start a new game.

Same here. My little brother's been playing Oblivion lately, and he's asked me to help him a few times, and I honestly can't stand it. Everything bad just stands out to me now, from stuff like the graphics and the animations to the small stuff like the lack of a sprint button.

I've probably put close to 1000 hours into Oblivion over the last 5 years, but I'm ready for a better game at this point.
