Skyrim just made me want to play Oblivion

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 2:15 pm

I'll probably play Skyrim for the whole time. Really, there's no mod I use in Oblivion that's constantly updated with new content, even when Skyrim is out so really, I got nothing to enhance my already gotten 300+ hours of Oblivion split over 10 characters.

Playing Skyrim makes me want play Morrowind when I am done with Skyrim.

Oh yeah, definitely restarting my Dunmer in Morrowind again once I am done with Skyrim. Who knows when that will be though...

A friend gave me his xbox 360 a few months back and I bought Oblivion GOTY, I only had Shivering Isle to complete and the last 3 thieves guild quest then Skyrim came out. I'll just play Skyrim till the 7th second of forever.

I love skyrim more, but

Dwemer Ruins < Ayleid Ruins
Snowy Mountains < Forest + rolling hills

Oblivion, while a great game for its time, was tedious IMO.

Everytime I saw a gate I let out a sigh.

With Skyrim there's none of that though the quests are starting to get repetitive ( Finished thieves, companions and dark brotherhood so now they just give me the same boring quests )

But of course, one of the great things about Oblivion were the modders. Mods made me play Oblivion for a LONG time.

I already have over 85 hours in Skyrim so I can't imagine how much more I'll get once mods come out that make me want to start a new character.

So far Skyrim is making me want to play more Skyrim. Although I am feeling the urge periodically to beat my head against Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup again periodically.

I suspect I will play Skyrim near exclusively until Diablo 3 (Temporary distraction) or perhaps Kingdoms of Amalur (which I have high hopes for consuming my life) is released. Graphics are not important to me as long as the story/plot twists are good and there are enough graphics to facilitate the game play properly. These days I am kind of missing NWN (Original), Sacred (Original) and Titan Quest story/plot. Different styles of games but the story/plot and the slow inclusion of new stuff and occasional surprise scripted stuff is really cool.

I miss that in Skyrim, it does not happen much, you do not really change the world per say. I was stunned with surprise when I found a room in a dungeon where columns raised out of the water after I entered. I damn near ran away figuring something really bad was happening and it was entirely passive, just carved columns rising from the water as I walked down the stone runway :) Very cool.

I really want to see a new monster in Skyrim, not just a different name for a more powerful version of the same monster :) There does not have to be many, but a handful of new models every 10 levels would be nice :) It would play havok with the radiant quests though I image as you level out of range of the NPC, that was a bit of a pain in Oblivion at time. I graduated from cats to bears but I still need cat stuff for a quest ... crap :)

I really found myself originally expecting things like when I restored a tree in town from a quest that it would show up all sunny with fruit and lush and green or when I restored a temple from the Nightmare god to Mara that when I came back to visit, it would be clean and restored. Little stuff like that makes a difference to me and shows some polish in the game and some level of impact on the world. Although, I grant it is very difficult with a more open ended world to manage this properly, little stuff here and there really makes a huge difference in the gaming experience.

That all said, I am really enjoying Skyrim for what it is but I am worried that there are not many surprises left :)

When I'm done with Skyrim, which probably won't be for a while, I'll be heading back to Morrowind.

Yes, if only for the guild quests. Skyrim's guilds are kind of [censored] and poorly written, and you can finish most guild questlines in only a few hours.

I do miss the green and colorful world of Oblivion from time to time just as I miss the dreadful, swampy, gray, lung damaging world of Morrowind from time to time.

Chances are pretty good we'll see some DLC with a major change in scenery.
Like the Shivering Isles in Oblivion, or Solstheim in Morrowind.

I know what she means. The graphics are smoothed over and everything's bright.

LOL NO. I'm not gonna spent 30 minutes trying not to crash to desktop and 5 minutes of that actually playing. I'll never go back to Oblivion. I couldn't even mod for the darn thing. Skyrim is my calling.

Skyrim has given me a small urge to replay Morrowind, because I last played that years and years ago. I don't think I'm going to, but the thought has crossed my mind.
It also has given me the urge to replay Fallout:NV because it has fun/silly mods now, and companions that, so far at least, I still prefer to "hang out with".

*tapping foot impatiently for the Skyrim CK*

Oblivion? Nah. Didn't like that one to begin with. :)

Nah, its way better than oblivion. Morrowind is cool though, still just as good as it ever was.
I would love to see morrowind with Skyrim graphics.

Not me, has played Oblivion pretty much to death, this might change. Might also play Morrowind again, stopped with Morrowind then I realized I had collected the mushrooms needed for the first mage guild quest in the starting city on pure instinct.
