Skyrim just made me want to play Oblivion

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 6:04 pm

Morrowind definately. Oblivion was a huge disappointment, after 40+ hours of gameplay i could walk around a dungeon with my eyes closed and not get hit even once.

Nope, Skyrim just showed me how sub-par game Oblivion actually was :) Oblivion I was able to play ca 20 hours before I modded the heck out of it, Skyrim has been "vanilla" for 60h of playing time and will remain as such for whole first playthrough.

After FO3 and Skyrim it feels almost cartoony. No offnce to anyone.

I agree it. I prefer the dark tone Fallout Skyrim and Morrowind have. Oblivion is to bright.

Nah, probably won't play Oblivion till it becomes nostalgia for me. I personally find it hard to play certain older games after a new one comes out. I start to play and all I can see are the bad things that the new game fixed. Like Morrowinds combat was hard to deal with since Oblivion. And Oblivions combat would be equally as hard to go back to after Skyrim. Sure they may have a special place in my heart but I don't enjoy them as much as I used to.

I remember saying to a friend of mine shortly after Skyrim came out, "You know what I like about Skyrim? No Oblivion Gates everywhere."

YES!! I hated going anywhere on foot for fear of running into an Oblivion gate...the sky turning red always creeped me out. Not that the actual oblivion planes did..Just found them rather annoying and sometimes confusing.

Geez, why would anyone want to go back to Oblivion?

OB Vanilla was awful, mods made it at least decent, Skyrim is great out of the box so I can wait to see what fantastic stuff the modders will make with the game.

Truth be told after playing Skyrim (113 hours so far) and learning of the stuff that happened in the past I'm going back to playing Morrowind (all expansions and DLC) then Oblivion (all expansions and DLC) to find certain characters or events that are mentioned in Skyrim. For example, I'm going to check out stuff on Solstheim and see if there is any mention of The Companions or if some of the early generations are there and etc...

Yes, I want to jump to the clouds, without a giant hitting me into the ground and then bouncing me up. :D

(meaning no, I actually want to play Skyrim and skyrim only)

This is the thread I was looking for since playing Skyrim after I saw what the fuss was all about I want to play the predecessors, but I'm wondering if I should take up Oblivion or Morrowind first? I've also heard that having a guide for Morrowind helps and there is a game of the year edition of Morrowind that comes with a guide on amazon for 50 bucks. I wonder if its worth the extra money? So would you recommend playing Morrowind with all the negatives if you never played it before?

Guide is a waste of money, you can find all info you'll need free online, there's a wiki that's as close to complete as I think you can get when it comes to Morrowind.

I don't think you'll find Morrowind very exciting post Skyrim, it'd likely take you some time to get used to the awkward combat/magic system, the slow movement speed early on, the fatigue loss from running, etc. etc.

But I'd say it'd be worth doing the main quest at some point just for the story and learning a bit about the scrolls' world. You can get some pretty impressive mods to make it quite a bit better looking visually, but it'll still be noticeably dated.

Nope. Played some much of Oblivion that I get bored within 10/20 minutes of starting a new characters. I'd go back to it when I build my PC with mods, but I'll likely still be playing Skyrim. If I do go to play another TES game it would be Morrowind since I've barely scratched it at all, and feel like I've missed out.

when I played modern warfare I wanted to play the predecessors of that so I went and picked up call of duty 2 which came out in 2005 after hearing how great it was by the COD fans, It was surprising how dated the graphics was for that game and I have played games since the 90's and its something you don't notice until later how far games have come. My only qualm about it is I'll have to buy a whole new gaming laptop to run the next elder scrolls.

I have no desire to play Oblivion ever again. I think Skyrim trumps it completely. I could never go back.

Sort of. It's mostly the main questline's story that makes me want to romp about Cyrodiil for a while. When I learned about he White-Gold-Concordant, I practically [censored]. I remembered hearing the gossip in Oblivion about the Altmer gearing up for some kind of confrontation with the Empire, but to learn that after all my Champion of Cyrodiil did during the Oblivion crysis, the Empire lost to the High-Elves...it was a bit shocking. I mean, where was my Champion during that war? Napping? And the Blades, nearly gone?

I mean, damn.

Lots of questions to be answered as well. What became of the Knights of The Nine? Surely they wouldn't have stood for the outlawing of Talos? Have they been wiped out? Where is the Crusader's gear?

Played a run through of both Morrowind and Oblivion just before Skyrim came out but i will definitely go back once i have finished most of the main guilds quests in Skyrim. For some reason i don't have the urge to explore the world of Skyrim as much as i did the previous games. Perhaps i am just getting bored of ES games.

Playing Skyrim makes me want play Morrowind when I am done with Skyrim.

Same here. The things that puts me off from Oblivion is the noticeable pop ups and stuttering(even with stutter remover) and , of course, the horrible faces. Skyrim, though faces not great, they are miles ahead of Oblivion.

I might go back and finally beat the Morrowind expansion packs (they're expansions, not DLC!) but I think I've retired Oblivion.
