Skyrim UI PC Specific Redesign

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 8:12 am

This seem to be a hot topic for PC Skyrim players. So I decided I'd take a few mins at work today and do a sketch/overhaul the Skyrim UI for PC.

It might seem a little webbish (I'm a Web/UI designer by trade) and I tried to keep some of the philosophies Bethesda is already using, but giving it a more PC feel while giving a quick solve to the sort problem.

Anyways, here was a quick stab at it.

If I ever get a little more downtime maybe I'll take a stab at one of the other screens like Skills/Perks.

If you feel like you can really contribute to the effort of bringing a less offensive UI to Skyrim then by all means head over to http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1267229-modding-the-gui/. They can use all the help they can get.

This is how the game's interface should look. Amazing.

Oh, do want!

You should post it in http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1267229-modding-the-gui/ too if you haven't already. Nevermind, someone mentioned it already.

:shocking:

Other than that terrifying statement, I'm impressed with your work. Saw that it was posted on the modding forum, it has definite promise.

So I'm understanding this correctly: You already did this?! You've already put it in the game and it's working?!

If so, do want do want do want!!!

It reminds me of the Oblivion UI except the categories are at the top instead of the bottom. The text and background is obviously different, but the functionality looks the same.

Looks slick though.

Ha! I wish, I just designed it in Photoshop. I don't have a lot of experience in the way of game development. Intermediate to Advanced Front-End Web Dev and Flash Actionscript I'm pretty decent at though.

Also, the idea of using Bethesda's Philosophies probably comes from my day job where I have to be political to my design process all day. :P

It would be cool if it was possible to add some kind of sorting options under the item type menu.
For Apparel it would be something like All, Head, Chest, Hands, Feet, Jewelry.

Another suggestion is make the space between the items a little tighter but add enchants like this:
Dragonplate Boots
Muffled, Fortify Health
Dragonplate Gauntlets
Major Lockpicking

Definitely, there are already things that make me go, "meh" when I look at it. I might sneak some more time in tomorrow during meetings or lunch. :D

Actually, the Skyrim UI is flash-based. The modders in the other thread are having difficulty making changes to the UI because of that.

I love this. Looks lightyears better than the current UI. If it works like it looks, I'd definitely use it.

This is a very nice concept, and I know that it is just a concept, and a rough one at that, but I do have a suggestion. Make the font smaller. Such large font is unnecessary. Twice as many items could be listed using a font half that size, even more if the spacing it tightened up. Other than that, it looks very nice.
