Star Wars Episode VII

Wonder if they'll put Johnny Depp into one of the new movies?

Might be good for the series, since he can (and has) played a variety of roles.

I'd rather watch even The Phantom Menace than Sam Raimi's Spiderman trilogy, Transformers, or Avatar.

Transformers, I agree with you on, but Spiderman 1 & 2 were all right; and Avatar, as hackneyed as it is, is at least competent, which is something that can't be said for the Star Wars prequel trilogy.

Thus, if this Disney buy-out means that Lucas will not be directing, then the Star Wars films can only get better. I honestly do not see how they could get worse.

There are these two directors, called "Michael Bay" and "Brett Ratner" ...

Yeah, no. I'm sick of camp characters spouting weird English accents now, thanks.

One thing about Disney.

They make quality products.

Especially their video games.

I remember my English teacher referring to him as Mannequin Skywalker, in reference to his complete lack of emotion in the films.

That's too flattering. At least a mannequin doesn't whinge on and on about itself. An actual mannequin has more charisma than Anakin Skywalker.

Touche. Although, I'd say they are both better at directing actors than Lucas. They're just terrible and trashy in every other way.

Actually, that's only his Jack Sparrow role (which he has fun with, apparantly. )

He's played in...
Nightmare on Elm Street (as Glen Lantz)
Platoon (as Lerner)
Cry-Baby (in the lead role)
Edward Scissorhands (as the lead role. Didn't speak much)
Freddy's Dead (as some random teen)
Sleepy Hollow (1999 film, as Ichobob Crane)
Rango (as the lead role)

And this is only a partial listing. Say what you will, he's got some significant range.

Notice how almost everything you've mentioned is old. Almost all of his characters of the past ten years are as I've described them: camp + weird English accent.

On the note of Disney's Star Wars, am I the only one who thought that Star Wars was on its downfall? I grew tired of the franchise and its extensive line of games and spinoffs. I thought they got repetitive. Even without that notion, It was already common knowledge that George Lucas was planning to retire in the first place. I seriously find this to be overly dramatic, and I hate to rule out things that could possibly turn out good.

Follow the rule of quantum moviegoing. All movies are both good and bad until observed by the customer, in which the customer has an equal chance of gouging out his eyeballs, or eating his words upon observation of the movie.

I am thinking there might finally be hope for stars wars. It was getting lame and annoying, and HOPEFULLY it will be something that turns out better in the end. Emphasis on hopefully.

I think that the majority of the Star Wars community has already been severely pissed off.

Star Wars never really appealed to me. Aside from the original trilogy, I found most of it to be rather bland and repetitive. The new trilogy, overall, was pretty bad, especially Episode 2. Seriously, who looked at Episode 2's script and thought it would be a good idea to make from a quality standpoint (not a financial standpoint)?

Then there was the painful romance in Episode II. Anakin is an unappealing hero, but an even less appealing romantic lead, especially one who delivers dialogue written by George Lucas.
Anakin ISN'T the hero, he was never suppose to be the hero, he was the villain. he was always being led into becoming darth vader

Fluffy Kitten's right. People as nerdy as George Lucas shouldn't be let anywhere near a romantic storyline. (Inb4 "But the Leia romance ...!" It wasn't a romance.)

I thought Lucas's intention was to follow the Hero Cycle. Anakin is the hero of legend, prophesied to destroy the evil of the Sith. Darth Vader is Anakin's ordeal, the abyss from which he is reborn and redeemed in Return of the Jedi.

If Anakin was meant to be a villain in the prequels, surely there were better ways to show that than making him a sopping emo tosspot who complains all the time about how life isn't fair. Anakin makes neither a good hero nor a compelling villain. He's just a weak-willed sponge getting swept along in events by people who are smarter than he is (which is nearly everyone).

I thought Lucasarts or films or whatever was dead anyways.

Disney saved Marvel and Pixar, why not Star Wars?

I'm neutral regarding Disney buying out LucasFilm...It hasn't yet hurt any Marvel license or the Avengers film after Disney bought Marvel, so for all we know, LucasFilm/Star Wars might also benefit from the acquisition.

It's also got me to thinking: Who else thinks Disney might have their sights set on Hasbro next? I'm sure they'd like to cash in on the Ponies and Transformers action. (And they could buy Hasbro if they wanted to, too: Hasbro's assets are currently valued at $4 billion, basically the same amount LucasFilm sold for...)

He was the director, but there were lots of unit directors too and Fran Walsh also directed few scenes. He had the final say on everything and he did give lots of advice, but he couldn't be everywhere at once. I'm not saying that he isn't good at romance or that nerdy people can't write or direct proper romance(Joss Whedon), but Phillipa Boyens did say in an interview on the box set that he generally left the romance to Fran and her while they let him handle the fights and battles.
