Has to wait until Friday to actually play. Feels bad man.
Not at all, with a full-time job I don't have time until Friday anyway!

Question for anyone finished preloading:

Does the desktop icon automatically show up or did you need to right click in your library to add it? Also I don't remember seeing the files in steamapps/common/ .. Are they under skyrim or "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim".

You know that feeling when you get the bread a t a restaurant, but you can't yet eat it because someone's on the bathroom, so you start touching it, and shuffling it like a deck of cards? My bread arrived, but Releasedate is still on the bathroom.

Woop. Pre-loading now. Though it's incredibely slow. going at around 200 kb/second, though I usually have 3 mb/second.
Oh well, I couldn't even load it earlier 'cause the servers where too busy.

You're clearly more of a gentleman than I. I'd gobble that bread right down while they went the bathroom.

I'm wondering if when I bring my disk version home from the store will I have to sit through a huge download as well? Normally I wouldn't think so, but, when I got Shogun 2 even though I had the disk in my computer for some reason it still downloaded the whole game install off Steam instead of reading it from the disk in the drive. Needless to say I was pretty annoyed as the reason I bought the physical disk was so I wouldn't have to sit there and download gigs worth of data and install files. If it does this same thing with Skyrim instead of reading it off the disk I swear I'll never buy another game in my life that's tied to Steam. I don't mind getting updates and patches through Steam but it shouldn't make you download the whole game if you have the actual disk from the store.

The download is going real well. It just passed 12% a little bit ago. It may not be playable until release. But, at least it'l be there when it unlocks. I'm looking forward to it. :)

wait, so...

I live in a student residency with a 10g download limit.
I only have 270 mb left now.
so are you telling me that although I have a retail copy for an offline game, I HAVE to download 5gb from steam ? which I can't until december ?
So basicly, I'm screwed ?? :dead:

It would make no sense if you had to download the entire game if you have the cd. Surely it'll install 99% of the game from cd, then download a few small files (and possibly a patch) to allow you to play.

Nope. Look for how to install from the DVD on the steam faq. It's there.

thats's what I thought,
but I typed in my cd key from the box and got the pre-load message. I clicked on it and now it's 'downloading' since yesterday, 2.8% done, total download = 5 gb.

so you're telling me I don't need to do this ?
please help, I'm such a noob at this :-(

Disappointed not to find the music files in the pre-load, kinda a shame they are encrypted.

this might be a stupid question, but can I use my (physical) cd key now? Since it came early, and I don't know if that's legal and everything, I just wan't to make sure.

@mastermarty - yes you can register the game by going to Games->activate a product on steam at the top left of the steam client. Then have a read of the support article I posted a link to above, up to you if you want to pre-download now or install from disc.
