Just received the retail copy. But I decided to not preload it as I won't be playing all night anyway. I just install it from the disc while having breakfast. Sounds good to me.

Can you confirm whether most of the game files are on the disc, or whether it just gives you a Steam code and you have to download the entire 6 GB on steam?

Ditto. Mine is on its way to my hard drive. Thanx for posting this and making us aware of it. Downloading now on Steam. Soon as the game unlocks at the appointed time, we're heading north, hehe .It's going around 200/300 Kilobytes Per Second. But, I'm in no rush knowing it's still awhile before it unlocks. I guess I'll hammer on Sonic Generations (also on Steam) until them.

Oh, heh found it. Wasn't really obvious where to find it. And now I don't think you can preload it. It says it can't install "because it is not yet released."

Wow, that's better download speeds than I ever got on anything. Most I ever got was 1MB on a cable connection. Now, I'm on DSL and cranking around 200/300 KB/S with Skyrim downloading.

No u cannot pre-load if u dont have a key, be happy that u can pre-load even when u didnt bought it off steam...

Some ppl rly need to check their connection, and change your steam download region too and try out if u get a better speed.
If that's not obvious how to do it: upper left corner -> steam -> settings -> download + cload -> download region
I dl'd it in about 45m without the need to change anything tho.

Try a different server. I went from 300KB/s to 1.2MB/s. Still half of what I normally get though, but the servers are all probably getting hammered.
