Done preloading and I added a shortcut to my desktop... It has been looking at me, mocking me... :(

To those of you who's download has finished:

Is there a game manual in the files which one can read?

(Or is everything encrypted?)

Usually you can right click on the game in your steam library window and get the manual - but it's not active until the game is unlocked.

where can i see how much i still have to download? i only see a percentage! and its at 32 procent!

At the bottom of the client where it says #Downloading - that is a link, click on it. Or alternatively go to View at the top left of the client and select Downloads from the dropdown list. Also, if you click on the 'All Games' under Library, there is a link to the downloads page there as well. :)

Just received the retail copy. But I decided to not preload it as I won't be playing all night anyway. I just install it from the disc while having breakfast. Sounds good to me.

I started my Skyrim pre-load this morning, came down nice and quickly. I really have to keep myself occupied now till 11.11 or the excitement is going to torture me lol

Actually, I'm preloading after all. Seeing how there are 2 days left and there are only advantages to it at this point.Funnily enough, when I entered the serial key steam said I would download 4,something gigs but the download bar says the normal 5.8 gigs. Oh well, I'm sure all will be fine.

Download speed is only 500kb/s. Internet is pretty slow here for some reason. I van go up to 2 or 3 MB no problem normally.

As long as you can completely pre-load before 11/11/11, then it doesn't matter what the download speed is. You still have to wait despite downloading everything already.

Its done :D
And since Steam now has this nifty feature where it automatically downloads the latest AMD drivers, I did that too. I really like that since I never did it because you had to do it manually before.

So I bought Skyrim from Steam of course and now I'm downloading the game so I can start playing on the exact release time.

But I am wondering if anyone else is doing the same and what their experience is with the speed of downloading it?

My experience is, well.. all the forums on Steam has been down for days so no help there or questions to be asked!
So I ask here, of course. But yeah, I'm at 11% with downloading speed 78kbps and I have a 16Mbit connection.

So this is pretty bad getting 78kbps for so long, for so many hours? Nothing else I download from the Internet give me this bad speed, not even close.

I don't really trust 3rd party sites and prefer to go direct to the AMD site to download my drivers. I don't even use windows update to update graphics card drivers.

You might want to check the server list there: http://store.steampowered.com/stats/content/ and find yourself a less-occupied server. Then open your Steam client, click steam on top left-> settings-> Downloads+Cloud tab and there you can change your download region. That will help your dl speed mate.

How is the game only a little over 5gb? Oblivion has way worse graphics and it's still bigger about 6gb... I'm scared...

Totally pre-loaded it onto my work laptop!

...Too bad it'll probably not be able to run it so I'll have to wait till I get home to pre-load it on my desktop. But it's the thought that counts, right?

Thats not always the case - i know F1 2011 had its manual up before it got unlocked
