Texture Issues

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 7:31 am

Any word on Carmack's rumored release of better? Immediately I can tell the textures are pretty poor, and when you do a fast 360 the textures aren't even entirely loaded. ETA on fixes?

The textures are beyond artocious. It looks considerably than most ps3 and 360 games today and this is on pc where you should be pushing limits not copying same textures.

The games graphical style and feel is awesome though, not knocking ID's hard work but I just was hoping / expecting more in the graphical department.

The videos I saw of gameplay didn't look like this at all, I suspect they released the wrong version on steam or something. This is like an alpha version of the game or something, I expected WAY more. I can't even play the game for more than 45 seconds without it completely hard crashing and freezing up.

just to preface: I haven't been like counting down the days till this launch or anything. I've never pr-eordered a game until this one. I have no major issues with any other game I play. also I've only played about 2 minutes of the game.

But holy crap this is the biggest piece of [censored] game I've ever played. I pre ordered this game because I had 100% faith in Bethesda of putting out a quality product that was finished. I have a intel 3.0 ghz quad core, 6 gb ram, a wd black 1 tb hdd, and an ati HD6870. not the best machine on the planet, but it should have no problem. there's blinking artifacts all over the place, blurry ass textures that are constantly re-rendering, choppy video, my framerate is below 20, even if I set the resolution to the lowest. Idk if it was intentional but the sound is terrible also.

i dont know what else to say. This is also the first time I've ever registered to a forum to moan about game issues. I've been through PLENTY of launches that have issues that eventually get ironed out, I get it, I'm not an idiot. but this is quite literally, completely unplayable. I always hear people talk about, oh this is a game breaking bug or whatever.. but seriously this is complete crap. I may delete all the local content from steam, re download and install just to make sure thats not an issue tomorrow while im working, but im pretty doubtful about that.

Texture quality aside, I'm having the same problem as mentioned by the OP - muddy textures when you turn around. It's like how Unreal engine textures look when they haven't loaded properly, except EVERYTHING looks like that any time I turn my head (for a second then they fix themselves). What gives?

I tried to continue playing but I can't. Not like this. Hopefully it's fixed by the time I get off of work tomorrow.

Check the FAQ, there are brand specific drivers to download.

Had those drivers for awhile, they aren't the issue.

Same, I re-installed the Rage-specific driver just to be sure and the muddy texture problem still persists.

Same. I don't even WANT to play the game in this state. I got the newest drivers, and the muddy textures and texture popup is still gives the feeling of a pathetic mess of a PC game.

And as I've stated elsewhere... eh. I can't even change the games mouselook acceleration or X-Y axis mismatch. Ugh.

First thing I did was DL and install these drivers, still have game crashing, muddy slow loading textures and mega screen tearing. These drivers didn't do anything.

Though I'm running a 580 GTX, I heard the non-RAGE specific AMD drivers are working better than the Rage drivers. Maybe try going back, or wait for a fix. I think most of the problem is with the game though.

Well I haven't been able to actually play the game b/c it crashes soon as I try to leave the stasis pod room but in that room I did notice horrid texture pop-in. The textures didn't really look bland or anything to me but the pop-in was horrible, the room isn't even that big so there should not even be any pop-in at that distance. Also, is it just me or are there no advanced graphical settings? I can turn on AA and GPU Transcoding but didn't see any other settings other than brightness.

What are your PC specs? That'll be why it doesn't look as good as you hoped it would be.

keeps freezing anytime I try to do much of anything (keybinds, save, etc.).. I've seen the intro 10 times, can't 'skip' it... frustrated Grrr >:( .. the first 10 minutes so far are nice though, .. 'coming out' looks absolutely amazing.

Edit:

FFS, no autosave, got my first gun and mission, tried to save, froze, so I reboot, and I have to do it ALL AGAIN>>> AAHHH!H!!!

Since the other thread got locked, yes, I agree with the OP. I got this game for PC because I was under the impression it would be "superior". I was mistaken. As many others have pointed out, the muddy textures, texture popups, and overall console port feel of the game have made me VERY disappointed. I expected a lot from id on this one, and so far I can't even get myself to want to play the game after playing briefly.

I sincerely hope this game gets patched, or drivers (yes, I have the latest beta drivers) can make this game serviceable on PC. Because it currently isn't.

Edit. MY PC specs are 2x GTX 570's in SLI, a Intel 2500K OC, and 8GB if Ram. And I think the game looks like crap. Not inherently, but the aforementioned texture issues kinda ruin the overall feel. Hard to notice the ultra cool looking rock when all the rocks next to it are 2 shades of blurry brown.
