I am running dual gtx 590s, and am having no FPS or popping problems. The one major issue I have is the muddy, muddy textures next to great ones. On a macro scale the graphics look good, but up close about 40% of the textures look like 1998. Was there a problem with the compression on the PC version? I dont understand. The textures on the characters look great, a lot of environment textures (canyon walls look good, metal pipes look like poo) dont. Is there going to be a high res texture pack?

It has been released in America only so ppl cant hold back should be americans. I Didnt mention you since u havent posted any kinda BS, right. No harm feelings mate, neither nationalism simply the truth. Im tired of the "CHILDISH" ones among your ppl.

If you aren't in America, then doesn't that mean you haven't even played the game yet?

I honestly hope id learns something from this, gets a smaller dev team, quits Bethesda and makes some indie games or something. That would kick rocks.

I'm not really holding this against id at all, I just think it's a point where they either go "right, well that was bad, time to go back to our roots and focus on the better platform" or they go "omg so much moneyz from consolez, LET''S MAKE MOAR". In the latter case, id was a good company, but I can't really support them anymore. I find it hard to believe John Carmack would sign off a game with these textures and this amount of problems on PC, I'd rather believe he made a mistake or was pressured into it. I'll be looking forward to Doom 4, but not if it's made for consoles and then ported. If that happens, I think that will be the end of the road for my id fanboyism.

Man, seems the game has gotten worse since release early this morning. After I got it I had same problems as everyone else but after lowering my AA to 4X was at least able to get out of the first room, it let me play for a while, I still had the horrid texture issues but I could at least play. I got done with the initial mission before going to bed. Get up this morning and now the game just crashes with an OpenGL error ever time I run it, so now I can't even play at all, haven't changed any settings or anything. I load in, get a bit down the road from that starting city and game locks and gives an error about Nviida OpenGL drivers losing connection with Display drivers or some such. God this is so frustrating, what a waste of 59.99, sad part is I wasn't even going to get this game originally, the whole "wasteland warrior" has been done to death so I was going to skip it. Saw some gameplay demo on Gamespot the other day and it looked fun so I changed my mind, granted they were playing the 360 version. I guess Bethesda is the first studio ever to make a console version that's more desirable than it's PC counterpart, that's quite a feat.

I dont think I have a texture pop in issue but it seems like the textures are extremely low res. Is this a bug or just how the game looks? I thought this was supposed to look better than this..

BTW I played the PC demo at quakecon back in august and it had these muddy textures too. I thought that would be fixed. All we can hope for is a big texture upgrade like Crysis 2.

There are a couple of threads about this same issue. Why are there so many sixy textures right next to muddy, blurry, washed out ones? I wonder if it was a compression problem with the steam preload and/or disk. I am not suffuring from any FPS issues (besides being capped at 60 on my 120hz monitor) or crashes, just these ugly low res textures next to good ones.

Oddly, this is what they were saying earlier this year about the PC version.

Not really sure what upgrading to latest Nvidia driver will do (the beta, think it's .85) - it mentions NOTHING about Rage, just some other silly updates...

still, I'm running i7 SLI 480 GTX's - muddy textures, look like half life 1 or Quake 2 style ... not all, about 30-40% of them thought, looks atrocious.

Framerate is great, I'd sacrifice half of it if it didn't look like quake 2 though.

I also have BAD texture 'popping', as commonly reported - will try the recommended "fixes" when I get home from work.

Regardless of driver issues I think this game deserves a texture pack, it would actually look good if it had one.

I have to agree with forum user pontiusx, I have also always had great respect for ID software. I remember almost a decade ago when Doom 3 was coming out, of being excited about the new hardware T&L and awesomeness with the all new Geforce GPUs at the time. But after playing this, I ask myself: couldn't have they at least waited another month or so of testing and fixing issues, before release. Because I have never played a game, even a beta, that was this terrible. I played for not even 10 minutes, at about the part of starting out in the cave fighting the ghost bandits: the tearing of textures, flickering, and horrible sound shuddering, this game needs a lot of work man. I have never complained about a game in my life, except when others complained about games that they thought were bad, that's opposite though I guess. my system setup is not bad either, its not hd6870 chipset, however, its a crossfire 5770 setup that has served me well in every game I have played so far, even battlefield 3 beta runs better than this, much better. I reverted from the 11.10 drivers back to the catalyst 11.9 drivers, ( yes I know the proper steps in removing old drivers and installing newer ones). Also, I had to turn off crossfire due to graphics shudders that lasted for no [censored]... like 10 seconds at a time. This didn't help, both drivers svcked with the game, which I am unsure if its even the drivers fault. Can't blame AMD for everthing, though some people find it easy. Anyways, I haven't experienced this since I tried playing Duke3d on an old Intel 80486 DX with only 4 MB of RAM and a whopping 40 MB HDD, Lol. In those days you could just throw in some extra memory and you were golden, but not in this age, and not with this game. I have 8 GB of DDR3 RAM, and a WD 6 GB/s Velociraptor HDD. I also have X6 1055t processor, (with despite all the smack from other users), I have had no complaints except overclocking, which in my opinion, if you need to overclock, you just need a new processor. Above all, besides saying "wtf" with this game, I hope they fix it, and despite this games current state, I have faith in ID to make things right so people can actually play the game. If you have a system setup that works perfectly, awesome, more power to ya, but please don't bad mouth us unfortunate ones that just want to speak out in hopes of getting this issues fixed, peace out peoples, and happy waste-landing!

For AMD/ATI & Nvida Cards

I had a problem with texture tearing and this is how I solved it (with help from my nephew!)

1) Get the latest dirvers for your card.
1a) AMD has RAGE drivers - Get those!

2) AMD Vision Engine Control Center - Goto: Gaming->3D Application Settings->Wait for vetical refresh: Slide the slider all the way to the right (Quality).
2a) Nvida Control Center: Set Vsync to: ON (I dont have Nvida but it is more obvious than the AMD Control Center).

Works like magic!!

For Nvidia users to at least get rid of screen tear:

In Nvidia control panel " Triple Buffering - On " Vertical Sync - Force on ".

I updated to the rage performance release for AMD cards. I have a quad core phenom 2.5 GHz, 8 GB ram, and two ATI 4870 1GB GDDR5 cards. Frame rate is fine but there are some serious graphical issues. Blocks of texture are missing when moving in the car in the opening scene. Textures still load slow when looking around. This game isn't fit to be played quite yet.

Figured I would register to add to the list of people unhappy with how the game has turned out. Specifically that you cannot play the game due to graphical issues...
How the heck was a game in this state released? And from iD software no less, wow

anyway, my setup, you tell me if I should have any problems running this game...
AMD Phenom II 6-core 3.2 GHz cpu
G-Skill 8gb DDR3 1600 RAM
Corsair H70 H2O cooling
Radeon HD 6870 x 2 running in crossfire
running game off 120gb SSD

So far I have updated CCC, now I am about to try the rage amd patch - if it does any good I will quote this post and update. If not, thank god I also bought Dark Souls for my ps3 today.

Thought I would chime in Also. First install, got through the opening movie and then took over 10 minutes to get to the point where the ArC door could open. Freezing link crazy and unusable. Installed the AMD Rage performance drivers, no help at all. Uninstalled all ATI drivers, uninstalled Rage. Rebooted, reinstalled ATI Drivers, Reinstalled rage, got through the ARC seen much more quickly, even got to the point where the guy picked me up in the buggy and brought me back to his place, then gave up. Graphics and movement are so choppy that the game is unplayable. Don't know what to do. Is it possible to get your money back?

P.S. I bought and installed the 3-DVD retail game from WalMart.
