We all knew about this UI before release, and there were plenty of screenshots and videos floating about. If you'd taken the time to read/watch everything, you would have known about it, and could then have cancelled your order. Simple really.

Or you could do what I do : NEVER PRE-ORDER A GAME

Pardon me for not expecting Bethesda to take a game in a series I've enjoyed immensely and turn it into crap. And who the f built Bethesda - the PC gamers or consoles?

Not quite. Bethesda was extremely careful to only show off the Xbox screens and videos.

playing with the controller is just far easier, it makes menu navigation easy.

Plus you get the better version of the game, and eventually better textures.

Can't stand these kinds of threads. People got their hopes way too high and are pissed Bethesda didn't find a cure for the common cold with Skyrim.

It's obscene how many people bicker over quality when games like Gothic 3, Risen exist.

Be fortunate you have a studio that still makes big fantasy games for the PC. Because eventually, there won't be a big enough market for them to stay afloat to make it worthwhile.

They could have just released this on the 360 and PS3, which would save them all sorts of aggravation and posts like this.

This coming from a guy who was an XBox'er till he found Morrowind.

the PC ui is great. fantastic. best UI ever in an rpg imo. ever try using the keyboard rather than the mouse? the games tells you to do it that way and it works perfect

So it just goes to show, I think there's a lot of baseless bull being posted on this forum, with some people being dead set on hating the game. Not surprising, you get it with every new game release, it is simply their determination which surprises me. You hate the game? Fine, then uninstall, and leave the forums. Simple.

Or instead of jumping to the completely most ludicrous assumption you can make, maybe people simply don't like the UI? :whistling: This isn't black and white take it or leave it. Do I think Skyrim should be Game of the Year? Heck no it should be Game of Forever!!

Doesn't mean I can't recognize the fact that the UI is a total train wreck for supporting PC's and mouse/keyboard usage.

NO PC presentation/demons-tration was ever made (as far as I remember). It was all Todd Howard's idea behind not to show the PC owners how cumbersome the UI is. Its not about despising Skyrim/Bethesda, but before releasing the game, attention to detail is a must. I also recall in one of the initial interviews Todd referred Bethesda's 'LOVE' for PC's traditional gaming (as in he mentioned, developing for the PCs is what they have always aimed/looked for, they would never abandon PCs etc..), if this keeps up, then instead of Bethesda deserting us, we (PC owners) would have already abandoned them.

I still don't get it. Stick to your roots, develop, optimize, customize, revolutionize, add flexibility (modding) to PC, burn test it, and if the results are satisfactory, then do a force overnight import to a xyz console. But I guess not enough money if this is followed coz' kids everywhere own a console.

So just see past it? The UI? LOL am I the only one finding that terribly funny? :teehee:

YES....the ui TOTALLY isnt something you have to use CONSTANTLY throughout the ENTIRE game. so easy to look past.

It's possible. I can look past it. As I said before, if you can't look past something like that you're either very nitpicky or just plain stupid. It's not that difficult to use. If it were there'd be a whole lot more people compaining about it.

I'm not saying it's not bad. I'm just saying that once you get used to it it's not difficult to look past it. It's not impossible to use. I know I can.

But yeah, if you'd rather be here complaining about the [censored] UI than enjoying the rest of this amazing game, that's your choice.

They put about as much attention to the ui as they did the stock data file loading. It's not that it's ugly, or difficult to understand. It's just a little clunky. The favorite section for me is the biggest problem. I'm a dual wielder, and it seems like ever since i improved my two skyforge swords that i can never properly equip them both through the favorites menu. When I equip magic to both hands, I can only equip one sword to one hand. One of them always get unfavorited for some reason. The hotkey system in oblivion was way more efficient, I don't know why they didn't recycle it. Also, navigating perks is very tough. I always accidently switch to another skill, or to the wrong perk. But none of these reasons are anywhere near good enough to hate the game. I'm still in love with it.

There are some things I like about the UI, and other thing I don't

Generally, I feel the menu navigation and organization needs a lot of work before it's in top shape for PC standards. As it stands now, it's very difficult to see what item you have selected and in most cases, using the mouse then switching to WASD for navigation can cause the UI to bug out, it's just really weird to be honest. Organization is also just a nightmare as far as I'm concerned. As much as I appreciate their sleek inferface and the fact they were inspired by Apple's OS/UI, the current UI is far from organized. You can't organize items by weight, damage, value, etc; and, the favorite system completely throws organization out of the window. If anything, the favorite menu should [censored] organize items by their type AND THEN organize them by name. Just a complete [censored] nightmare.

The irony is, the 360 version was "out" at least a week before release (and people were playing it).

While the UI sometimes doesn't register my mouses position properly, and it obviously designed for consoles, layout wise I have no problems with it. It's a great UI and just needs some tweaking for PC.

The UI is far better then Oblivion. Its not the greatest, but its still usable.

The only valid complaint you made was:
"No item characteristics (1hand, 2hands, stolen or not,...)"

Most of the rest were just nit-pickery.

The main thing that annoys me about the UI is that not everything is mouse clickable, even with 360 controller unchecked. It's great that you can use the mouse wheel to scroll, but redundant because you still have to use the keyboard to hit enter. If everything was mouse clickable, the UI would be fine, not "great" but perfectly fine. I think the UI looks fantastic though, especially the perks section and the map (although would be nice if you could toggle tags on / off for the map, annoying to have to mouse over everything to see the name). If maybe clicking the mouse wheel brought up the main UI (like when you press tab) and then everything was mouse clickable, I think it would be a lot better. I would love a character sheet as well though, although I do appreciate how they've tried to reduce the amount of "numbers" in the game. I don't like the Journal much though, there is a serious lack of information about quests, especially "Misc" quests, just one line. I don't like to be forced to use map markers because I've forgotten what the heck the quest is actually about. Would be nice if they organised them under subheadings as well. "Empire, Mage's College, Companions" etc. Sometimes it's hard to remember which quest is part of which quest line.

I didn't bother to read all of the posts, but I just have to throw in my 2 cents that I am absolutely loving this game. I feel very sorry for those of you who can't get over minor little problems and nitpicky issues, because this is truly an outstanding game. And yes I very happily play it on a PC (tweak those ini settings and holy crap this game is WAY more beautiful than any of the pre-release console media showed).

Thankfully, Bethesda knows that people who rant on forums like these are a minority...because people who don't have such exacting demands are playing the game. Seriously, reading through that list, yes most of those points are valid, but they are minor. I have no problems whatsoever. An occasional annoying aspect that I adjust to, yes I said adjust to, and get over it. I keep playing the game and having fun. Sure the UI is "consolized," but it still works fine, it is not broken or whatever you want to call it, it just doesn't have some of the useful functionality that the PC can provide. But it still works, and way better than most games out there and WAY better than Oblivion. You have to get over these little things and enjoy the game because it really is an incredible game.

Heheh, you beat me too it. See how long before another tool tries to blame piracy for Beth loving consoles more than PC's.

Fact of the matter is, Bethesda Studios loves consoles because Zenimaz/Bethesda Softworks is a crap publishing house and trying to take the lazy way out of everything to maximize profits. Look what happened to RAGE after Zenimax bought out ID.

Remember how Carmack said in every interview BEFORE release that "PC is the preferred platform", and then AFTER they released the cesspit known as RAGE on PC Carmack was suddenly saying in interviews that "consoles are the preferred platform".

And now you have the same thing coming from Bethesda Studios. Todd Howard suddenly complaining about how hard it is to make a game for PC, Bethesda limiting every single marketing ad containing videos or screenshots to only those from an Xbox 360 so they could grab all the money they could from PC customers before release came and the [censored] started hitting the fan.

This is their second high-profile game ( Zenimax/Bethesda Softworks ), back-to-back, to hit a sour note with PC gamers due to making it for consoles and then just throwing a bone to PC customers.
