The Hopping Dead - Thread #6

Here's a little something I found on http://tv.yahoo.com/news/-the-walking-dead---norman-reedus-s-brush-with-death-and-7-more-things-you-didn-t-know-about-daryl-dixon-014937372.html and http://tv.yahoo.com/news/walking-dead-michael-rooker-talks-survivor-merle-dixon-190900608.html while checking my email today. Apologies if it's already known, I didn't see it posted yet.

Haven't read the article on Merle yet, but I did for Daryl. Interesting stuff I did not know.

Good reads, especially about Norman Reedus; he has a son named Mingus....Mingus Reedus...strange name!

Some people are playing Survival Instincts already. Here are some quick gamer reviews from another forum on the X360:

"First off, just to ease your worries, this game is GOOD. I was actually one of the people that thought this game going to be crap due to lack of information. After playing for 4 hours, I was hooked. I did not complete the game yet just to inform you.

The graphics aren't that bad as many people say. They fit this genre/gameplay. The atmosphere is fantastic. With my trusted flashlight, I ventured through all sort of locations such as a police station, hospital, grocery store, park, etc. I believe the locations are fixed on day/night cycle.
The gameplay is very similar to dishonored. Combat is more melee focused. A melee weapon has light/heavy attack functions and walkers can easily be killed from a stealth kill. Walkers can only be killed with 4 light or 2 heavy swings to the head. You also can shove walkers off just in case you need some breathing room. Now if you happen to get caught within a walker's grasp, you will go into a quicktime event where you need to aim at the walker's head and stab. It's not easy at this point since the camera is shaking, your view is distorted, and your health gradually drops a bit every passing moment. I found it frustrating when I had like numerous walkers on me so I had to do that quicktime event one after another. Using a firearm is last resort because ammo is scarce and attracts more walkers to your position. So even if you decide to kill off every single walker in a level, walkers will eventually respawn back. Sometimes it's best to avoid fighting all together. There are distraction items to be used against walkers, for example, throwing a glass bottle at desired direction or activating a car alarm to sway off walkers.

The main goal in the levels are scavenging for fuel, food, ammo. and weapons. Sometimes you will encounter survivors that need help as well. In return for completing their quests, they either will aid you by joining your group or give supplies. Unfortunately, you cannot bring everyone to your group because of limited car space. Sometimes you will change vehicles that can hold 2, while others only hold 1. Not to worry, the survivors don't have much personality after joining up. Between levels, there are some planning to do like picking one of three routes to go. One route uses low fuel but high chance to get more supplies and vice-versa. Entering a level, you can choose what equipment to bring, command your survivor to find supplies, store what supplies at the car.

The sound &
voice acting is are good. Spooky music plays when something is about happen. I actually jumped at times because I never expected what was going to happen. ."

"Graphics are pretty alright with game running around 30fps and looks very clean. Combat is more melee focused...and very good at that. I only played an hour and using guns is not a good idea at all...gets too hard & zombies surround you from all directions to give you a quick death. I rather throw bottles around to distract zombies and get the fuel tanks.

I must say the sound fx and music in the game is really good...hitting a zombie with a hammer until it falls it plain awesome. Guns sound ok too....best if you have a 5.1 surround setup as you'll know where the zombies are or coming from.

If you're a fan of the tv series and/or in for zombie bashin' then get it. This is not L4D in any way....much slower pace and zombies are hard to kill. But like L4D you need to go to point A to B and can take different routes based on your play style....so there is replay value for achievement hunters rather than being a total bore like Silent Hill Downpour. I Think this game will get a 7.5/10...but in no way it's a horrible game or anything."

"I just beat the game. It was better than I expected (better than Aliens Colonial Marines), but still it is not a game I recommend. Ask yourself, if it didn't have "The Walking Dead" title, would you still be interested? The answer is 'No'. It's basic and generic as can be. It's clear Activision / Terminal Reality made this game without much depth; and only to cash in on the TV series, and rushed this out to coincide with it.
Daryl's voice acting was average, but Merle's VA is pretty good and convincing. The secondary survivor characters are not bad, either. But the story is non-existent, and that's the main problem. All the game really is, is finding supplies, and fuel. Go from this town, to that town. Even though there are multiple towns/paths you can take, it's all the same. I don't care about replaying it because there really isn't much to offer here, and so I'd prefer TT's TWD point-and-click game to this one.
The best thing about this game is the sound quality, it's top notch."

I'm still very weary; I think I'll wait for a price drop..if then.

I'll wait to see actual reviews. Really doubt this game is going to be worth the money. Either way I won't be buying it.

Yep, I put the final 3 in the OP to kinda count down to the 7 month waiting game between Seasons, lol.

I thought it was a decent episode, except for zombies always popping up out of thin air, but every episode has that.

My friends were holding out on me. They have the first and second editions of the comics. :ooo: :twirl: :touched:

I borrowed them and I am so excited to read them.

Too cool!

We (sorta) watched last weeks rerun then tonight's episode together. I was cooking dinner for her and missed bits and pieces here and there. Thankfully I have it on my PVR so I can watch it again in a bit. I wonder who it was that...

Spoiler
burned the pit/bus zombies? I was thinking it may be Morgan. Please don't tell me if it was if you know.

For the most part I enjoy the show (what little I've been able to catch) but this episode felt extremely cliché.

Spoiler
The Governor somehow knowing exactly which way Andrea went. The horde of walkers that just happen to be milling about in that abandoned building. The apparent death of the Governor when he is overrun by the horde. Finally when Andrea finally is about to reach the prison, the Governor magically shows up and captures her.

Spoiler

I don't particularity care for Andrea at all but I don't envy what's going to happen to her. I'm also pretty sure it was Milton who burned those walkers.

Yeah, rule number one of dealing with screen villans:

That flashback seemed oddly placed.

It couldn't be more fitting. The connection was made mind numbingly blatant with the fade between the chains and the Governor (who might have even been using the very same chains).

Spoiler
The pets obviously did something to Michonne before becoming walkers. Probably a sixually violent situation, which would help explain Michonne's general distrust for most people. Her saying that they were always monsters just mirrors who the Governor is, and he definitely intends sixual violence as part of his torture.

My thoughts exactly on that scene.

I did find the episode's horror cliche shenanigans rather over the top - but it was done well, so I can give it a pass. What I am having issue with, re: the show lately, is its lack of information on distances. This seems to be handy for the writers, since it means they can fudge traveling notions when the plot calls for it, but it's becoming inconsistent enough that it sometimes breaks credibility. Sometimes I feel like the Gov's town, the Prison, the Farm, and Rick's original town must be within this large, 100+ mile diameter that they keep circling around in, but other times I feel like maybe it's only 10 or 15.

And I sure hope Tyrese will become more interesting/integral soon, because so far he's basically a pointless chr. eg, he better have some central role in the conflict that's coming up or I'll be sorely disappointed.

Also, I sure think that

Spoiler

Andrea should have sliced the tires of the Gov's truck before leaving. Assuming of course she didn't know how to hotwire a truck, and the keys were on the Gov. Not to mention, not making sure someone is actually dead/incapacitated is always stupid. He did have guns for defense, it's not like he only had a tiny knife/bare hands. Of course, it would be a shortened season/series if he was actually dead...but surely there could have been something done to make it a little less silly.

And as much as I've come to dislike Andrea (I never liked her much to begin with, and this season just capped it), I wouldn't wish that potential fate on her. :bonk: Maybe a couple certain someone's will help her out.

(edit: put a little more of my original post in the spoiler tag, just in case. never know...)
