The new skin

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 6:02 am

Wow. This is even harder to read than the last update was, even if I switch it over to the standard IP Board skin (dark text on white background). Awesome! Not. Thread subtitles are nigh impossible to see, and I can't tell very readily what threads I've read and what I haven't. They all sort of get mushed together in a giant word soup.

Did IP Board take their design ideas from Escapist's new website (which is equally as atrocious and hard on the eyes)? Sigh.

Edit: Also. Lack of border or other defining line between pinned and non-pinned topic? Not cool.

New skin looks good. Sad my motion avatar is gone, it was awesome. I don't remember where I got it in the first place.

It svcks not seeing who is online. That's part of the fun. You know people are looking at it, and you can expect a responce. But now its just boring

Similar to what others have said... It is different and therefore terrible.

Maybe it's not that bad. Some complaints:
  • The subject line on threads seems way too wide, taking up too much space (my biggest complaint). I have to scroll horizontally to get to important buttons, like the "Post" button
  • Fonts are difficult to read, not because they are too small but because they are "blocky"
  • The yellow "edited" bar is way too prominent
  • Not sure why we need to see the precise post counts on under avatars
  • Would be nice to see who else is viewing a topic

Looks pretty good to me, but I'd still like to have our join dates back, and I still want the Dovakhiin to disappear from the TES forums altogether. Hopefully someone will be kind enough to make a stylish script for that once the Construction set forum is released. :whistling:

Love how the smilies work now.

i sorta like the new skin but three problems

1) front size, way to small i know you can change it but "normal" is too small
2) "who's viewing" at the bottom is missing, it was a handy shortcut and alot of people used it to see who's online.without going on everyone profile.
3) colouring, I think we should be able to choose our own coloring

I personally dislike the update although I may become used to it.

The one thing I miss however is that you can no longer see who is looking at what topics. Bring that back and make the font slightly bigger and it will be fine

Maybe I'm simply adjusting to it, but the new font and/or layout seems to be giving me a slight case of eye-strain, which is unpleasant.

+ I like how the profiles are arranged
+ Can't say that I very mind join dates disappearing

However.

- I liked seeing who was viewing the topic (which was quite useful)
- The unused space towards the sides
- And of course the coloured font for edit text that for those with OCD in correcting typos is of some annoyance

Can't say I'm a fan but then again I'm not such a great fan of change and will get used to this one undoubtedly.

Another complaint: when you mouse over someone's forum name, a little pop-up with some information comes up. Trouble is, it obscures the text you were actually reading. Highly disruptive if your mouse were to accidentally wander over someone's name while you were reading a post: surprise pop-up, and suddenly you've lost your place in whatever you were reading. (Yes, this just happened to me, and yes, it was extremely annoying.) In the previous update you only got that pop-up if you actively clicked on their name. Can we go back to that, please?

Overall, especially when using the IP Board theme, the whole site now reeks of Facebook.

If I wanted to be on Facebook, I'd be on Facebook. I want forums, not Facebook.

With Mozilla you can toggle the zoom feature to make things bigger.

But yeah, seems like this is the only forum that has to cram tiny pictures everywhere and just make it more sluggish.

Why did they change the skin anyways the old one was almost perfect?

Well, this is going to take time to get accustomed to. I'll reserve judgement for a while.

Get ride of the post count and bring back the joined date. Need it to know if the person is new or not. That way I can take it easy on them.

I agree, I'd like to have post count and join date there.

EDIT: It also needs a reply to topic button at the bottom of the page instead of the top only.

Nope, not keen at all. But I guess I'll have to get used to it. So other than aesthetic changes do when get any more functionality? It would be nice to embed media, correctly cross quote multiple posts and have threads that are larger than 200 posts.

Post count doesn't bother me, but join date should make a return. Hopefully they are still working on it.

It's not much of a problem for me. It actually looks pretty normal.

...of course I'm on a 40in 1080p monitor :P
