Was utterly inspired when I first read about Dead is Dead.
/snip
Will see what we will see
Welcome and I am glad you were inspired. We all look forward to reading about your orcish malcontent. I assume you are playing on a console, because there are some absolutely fantastic mods that change the HUD, the UI and implement survival like...eat,drink,sleep and suffer from hypothermia.

Elezabyth barely escaped the ruins of Saarthal with her life last night. Her survival skills came in handy--not to mention her excellent "back-peddling while casting" maneuver. Level 3 now and making her way back to the College.
This is why I play DID.

Sylgja announced that while they are gone she’s going to plant a garden. She always wanted one at Shor’s Stone, but the deer kept eating it.
 Brilliant!

Was this a character you started here? If so post the info as it is laid out in the OP and I'll add your fallen to the memorial.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tomar is level 23. He has an Alchemy and Smithing skill of 53 and a 1H and Archery skill of 36. His Sneak is 55 and his Pickpocket is 48.

He has become very effective from the shadows. He is all but undetectable while remaining still and in the dark. But he is easily detected when the enemy is facing him and there is some light. That is the way it should be.

Along with using poisons quite often, AND TRAPS!...He is becoming quite the Ranger/Sniper. I love that mess. We will scale the backside of a mountain, just to get a perch off the side of a shear cliff face, that would otherwise be unobtainable. And take out targets as far as the game will render them.

His first request to take out someone was rather crude. He disguised himself as a guard and just walked in and ran a sword through the chest of the target. He leaves, dumps the Guard gear in the bushes and runs out of town.

Tomar is now an official DB member. I still have a bad taste in my mouth from my first playthgrough of this quest, so it's hard to really get him into character. Then again, maybe that is the way I was meant to play him. Tomar gets his first 3 contracts, from Three Dog.

( I spammed through the dialog so I would't hear his voice. No matter what he is saying, all I hear is "fighting the good fight!" and "OOOWWWWW!" OMG will I ever have any peace from this yo-yo?)

He sets out for contract #1. It is dark and he is approaching the area of the target's small camp. Along the road he is confronted by two wolves. He makes quick work of them and leaves them in the middle of the road. Shortly after, he bumps into a female Orc with a big mouth. (I could sooo run with that.. but I wont) She gets lippy as Tomar tries to ignore her. He has a mission to do. As Tomar walks away she exclaims...

ORC : Don't you turn your milk drinking Imperial backside to me...you...Imperial milk drinker!

She draws her weapon and Tomar runs ahead, into the shadows and up the rocks on the side of the road. She makes chase, but looses sight of him. Giving up the chase, she turns and continues on her original bearing, as she mutters...

ORC : That's what I thought, damn pansy ass, mama's boy...

The Orc approaches the felled wolves form Tomar's previous encounter. She stops and looks down, as her head gets snapped back and her neck gets...shaved a little too close.

TOMAR : I'm sorry. Could you repeat that last part please?... No?...

Tomar takes her gear and drags her body into the river. He dons the newly acquired Iron Armor and makes his way into the targets small camp. He approaches as a wandering Merc, looking for a warm fire to rest for a while.

The contract welcomes him into the camp to join him for some Ale and Soup by the fire. They sit and talk for several hrs. The Target tires and beds down for the evening. He tells Tomar that he is welcome to rest by the fire for as long as he wishes. Tomar nods and looks into the flames.

Once the target is asleep, Tomar sneaks to his tent and places a small bottle in his pocket. A bottle that leaks a toxic fog that blankets the tent and the area around it. Tomar holds his breath and quickly gets to the edge of the death cloud. He can hear the man gasping and coughing as he walks away with leisure and discards the iron armor...piece by piece. Leaving a trail of equipment behind him.

Never looking back, as the fog clears and reveals a lifeless figure in the bedroll.

Tomar sounds like a lot of fun. Every kill is different.

Thanks to a bout of insomnia (mine, not his), Duralekh gro-Bulsakh has taken down the Dark Brotherhood. The whole process was a spoiler-fest that will go unremarked upon, except to say that he survived. Afterward he just stood under the trees for a little while. I was really worried about this escapade. The roadside assassins are pretty much just a nuisance, but D couldn’t stop imagining one of them standing over his sleeping wife. No more.

Now he’s taking a much deserved vacation in his favorite place: home. He picked up Erik the Slayer on his way back to Riften.

Erik was happy to see him. “Hello, friend,” he said. “Are we going on another adventure?”

“Sure, kid,” said the Bulsakh. “But first we’re going fishing.”

While Big D takes a break, I started a new character. Meet Shuvesse: Khajiit stealth archer, skooma addict, Dovahkiin. The gods must have a sense of humor.

Shuvesse was caught coming over the border with a quantity of high-grade skooma. Escaping back to Cyrodiil without the coin or the goods meant certain death at the hands of her associates, so she decided to ride it out with the captured Stormcloaks. About the time she realized she had made a big mistake, there was mayhem. She escaped with her life and some assorted goods.

Skyrim felt like a fresh start. She had been clean for a month before they trusted her with the cargo. Now she could just keep going. But first she had to warn the Jarl.

On her way into Whiterun, she met a Khajiit caravan. They had skooma for sale. She paused for a smoke before heading in to Whiterun.

I’m on a console, so instead using of a mod I’m going to manage Shuvesse’s habit on paper. She needs one vial of skooma per day while she’s addicted. If she runs out, she’ll have to put 300 gold per day into a respawning container in a hold capital to simulate buying from another addict. She is an alchemist, so she can cook her own from nightshade and moon sugar. I’m thinking one each per day eaten together to substitute for a vial. Last thing, she can get clean at a temple for 5,000 Septims. The catch is that the next time she meets someone with skooma for sale (or finds some), she’s hooked again. I may tweak the terms of her habit as we go. I want it to be major motivator without making all other goals completely unreachable. Advice is very welcome.

Her addiction means that before she undertakes a mission like the pilgrimage to High Hrothgar, she’ll either have to get clean or lay in a good supply. Also she will not be able to keep a follower while she’s using. That means those roadside dealers will cause her to dismiss her follower, loot and all.

Shuvesse has been known to trade a piece of tail for one more hit, so the Thieves Guild sounds like an improvement. If she gets thrown in jail while she’s addicted, she’ll have to attempt an escape. I’ve never done that before, so it should be interesting. She uses light armor, archery, and claws for melee. She’ll also put some perks in sneak and alchemy.

Here is a http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h361/grits29/Shuvesse.jpg (on my TV) in Bleak Falls Barrow. The Gloves of the Pugilist are pretty awesome on a low level Khajiit. Right now she is standing on the steps of Dragonsreach, waiting for Irilith.

It is going to be interesting to see how he comes up with unique ways of death. God knows, there are enough mods in there to give him a good selection.

I started a new character. Meet Shuvesse: Khajiit stealth archer, skooma addict, Dovahkiin. The gods must have a sense of humor.
Well, Big D had a good run for now. I love the new kitty. I am not pro cat but she is disturbingly attractive.

I don't get how Moon Sugar has mostly magic side effects while Skooma is 25 Restore Stamina. I like the way you are RPing her habit. You could sub some Stamina pots for her Skooma and just discard the Moon Sugar. There are about 25 ingredients that will make a Stamina pot. So you could make one for every Moon Sugar you have. That may be easier to keep track of.

IDK...I am just pulling straws. It sounds great. Nice start and we wish her well.

Gooood Sugar.

Big D sounds like he needs a break. But now I have this wonderful mental image of an Orc wearing overalls and a straw hat, and holding a fishing pole.
I love what you're doing with Shuvesse. Good luck with her!

Idriel is currently at level 11 and doing fine.
There aren't any spoilers in here, but it's long so I stuck it in a tag.

Spoiler
Idri and Faendal stumbled upon a cave full of vampires while exploring the Rift. Upon discovering the entrance, Faendal ever cheerily suggested that they should check it out. He soon came to regret his suggestion when huge spiders began pouncing on them from all directions. Idri thinks the old boy has been up in Skyrim too long if the sight of a few little spiders makes him squirm. She used to wrangle and ride big bugs all the time back home in Valenwood.

Hacking and shooting their way through the arachnids, they soon found the most peculiar sight: a small cottage in the middle of the cave! They crept closer for a better look, but the cottage's vampiric residents were none too pleased of the Bosmer duo's snooping. A few well-placed arrows solved that problem. After a quick peek into the cottage, Idri started feeling a little funny. Too much munching on vampire perhaps. Exotic foods always seemed to upset her stomach. She downed a cure disease potion just to be on the safe side, and soon felt much better.

After a bit more spider hunting (Idri is getting good at putting arrows in them), they eventually arrived in Ivarstead. They met a fellow named Narfi, who was rather friendly, but a little touched in the head. They also explored a nearby barrow, and at one point had to fend off a full-on assault from a horde of skeleton warriors and draugr. Those archery lessons from Angi really paid off!

While on the road to Helgen, the duo ran across some Imperial soldiers escorting a Stormcloak prisoner. He must have been an important prisoner, because the Stormcloaks had set up an ambush just up the road. Amidst the chaos, the prisoner managed to break free and began attack the soldiers. With the Thalmor keeping an eye on her (since her homeland is part of the Dominion), she figure helping a few Imperials couldn't hurt. She quickly stuck an arrow in the prisoner's back, then turned her bow toward the Stormcloak soldiers. The Imperials must have mistaken her assistance for hostility, for she soon found herself under attack by both sides. With Faendal's help, she managed to take down a good number of soldiers, but the Stormcloak commander just didn't want to die, so she decided to run for it. It was almost as if his survival was "essential" to the Divines' master plan.

They arrived in Whiterun soon after their harrowing encounter, and are currently spending the night at the Bannered Mare to settle their nerves. Idriel also has some business with the Jarl in the morning. She's thinking of settling in somewhere so she'll have someplace to call her own, and to keep some of the treasures she finds while out exploring. Hopefully, the Jarl won't make her jump through too many hoops before she can buy a house....

New character:

Aeryn Eagleye
Breton Archer in the Imperial Legion.
Playing on expert, with slightly mighty dragons, immediate dragons and trying out trade dragon souls for perks. Using live another life to start as a legionnaire in the civil war.
Im not the dragon born so no shouts, but i think its ok to trade souls for perks as fighting a dragon should teach you some valuable survival skills... ;-)
But I'll only spend the souls on perks I can justify as related to recent dragon fights. Never used that mod though so not sure if it'll make me OP...

Been a while since I've done a DiD, so here goes.

Epirus Andronicus
Imperial adventurer, will use basic equipment that would be available to most average people, unless he finds it. So no buying anything higher than steel/leather.
Playing on adept difficulty, and he has to sleep at least 6hrs per day, as well as eating at least two meals (bread, other random food, ale/mead) per day.

Wish me luck

Good luck to Epirus, Aeryn, and all of the new characters! I hope you will post plenty of updates, I love to read about different folks’ adventures.

What a warm welcome for Shuvesse, thanks! She is even more interesting than I had hoped. Keeping track of her skooma habit is easy, I just make a note every game day on my paper. I am much more aware of the time passing, and planning where she will need to be based on her supply makes her very connected to her environment. Also gold really means something now, since there’s a constant drain on her earnings at the same time she’s trying to save for a blessing.

She is deadly with claws and bow at level 7, but she is very fragile. Her armor is unimproved Thieves Guild gear. She hasn’t found anything with resistance charms yet. I’ve never had a character almost die in the first dragon fight before, but Shuvesse was nearly crisped while hiding in the tower. (The guard standing in front of her fell over dead.) Her need for cover and an escape route makes every place new. She took the Ritual Stone power for a panic button, but she hasn’t used it yet.

Here’s a little report:

24 Last Seed, 4E 201

Shuvesse stood outside the Whiterun stable looking west. The road was empty, no sign of the Khajiit caravan. She felt both relieved and disappointed.

It had taken four days to save up enough gold for the blessing that cleaned her blood. Four days of fear and pain while she scrambled to earn, her pile of coins growing as her supply dwindled. Four nights of bliss entwined with that sweet, white smoke. No one would ever love her the way skooma did. It was a lie, but the loss when it was gone felt real enough.

But now hope was back in her heart, and she needed something even more than another high. This new power made her greater than just flesh and bones. The dragon at the watchtower had called her name. Dovahkiin. It knew her. The Greybeards knew her. And now she could answer their call.

If Lydia ever managed to catch up. Shuvesse glanced irritably back toward the gate. She would need the big Nord’s brawn when another dragon found her, or if a storm came up on the mountain, or if a hundred other dangers surprised her with steel, spell, and fang. Skyrim was a hungry land with too few shadows. Shuvesse was a city Khajiit, but if she lived long enough, she could learn some new ways.

Lydia jogged up and halted a few paces behind her. She scanned the sky, then turned to watch their backs. Good, thought Shuvesse. She started down the road to Ivarstead.

Epirus.
Bit of backstory:
He enlisted in the Imperial Legion at the outbreak of the Great war, aged eighteen, and served everywhere from Valenwood to the Imperial City. He was badly wounded during the battle to liberate the Imperial capital. Served another twenty years, then retired when he couldn't stand co-operating with the Thalmor any longer and set down roots Just outside Falkreath. Married a local girl, had a daughter, and everything was peachy until, ten years after his retirement, a trio of drunken Legion troops burned down his house, taking his family along with it.
He hunted down the men responsible for his family's death, but was arrested before he could avenge them. He escaped, and made it all the way to Darkwater before being caught up in an Imperial ambush.
And that's where we start the game.

Excerpt from the journal of Epirus Andronicus, date unknown:
"Escaped the headsman at Helgen due to the fortunate intervention of, believe it or no, a bloody dragon. Made a run for it when he attacked, managed to escape during the chaos along with a friendly young Stormcloak by the name of Ralof.
Spent the night in Riverwood, then set off to Whiterun to speak to the Jarl about assigning a few guards to the town.
Trip was uneventful, couple wolves and a few bandits. Got into Whiterun the next morning, spoke to the jarl, then left. Sold off some of the excess crap I'd accumulated during my escape and the trip to the city, resupplied, then spent the night in the inn.
Decided I'm going to head for Riften tomorrow. Seems as good a place as any to start my search for the scum that killed my family."

What a warm welcome for Shuvesse, thanks!
You are very welcome. She is a lovely character with an original background and limits. I hope you enjoy this playthrough as much as we enjoy reading about her.

----------------------------------------------------------

After taking out the second of the three initial contracts. Tomar works on his Alchemy skills. We are now level 25 and he is one nasty individual. He still doesn't have his complete memory back. He awakens in the middle of short sleep secessions from dreams as a child. He found a number of letters from his , now known to be, Uncle to his parents. This sheds some more light on who he was, who his family was and why he feels so connected with the Brotherhood.

He feels like he was sent here for a reason...he just doesn't know what that is.

This last mark resides in a small village. It will be a long trip across Skyrim, to reach the target. Tomar loads up with 200 freshly made Arrows and almost 200 lbs of new concoctions, both helpful and dea...well they are helpful as well. Also, we have several reusable traps and a large variety of explosives containing gas, oil, shock, freeze and who knows what.

Tomar sticks to the high ground as much as possible. We cover a lot of the map from the side of a mountain. About half way to our contract we stumble on a an ancient Tomb. Tomar was intrigued from his first night spent in Skyrim and peeks inside.

Inside we meet a very attractive Nord nam...let's call her Bell. She is interested in something deep in the crypt and asked for our help. Tomar, being smitten agrees. Once the confrontations began with the locals (Draugr) We found out real fast that this was just not going to work. Bell follows WAYYY to close. If she barked at all I would think Barbas was with us. Sadly there is no mod for "Back up Bell".

TOMAR : If you are going to ride in back pocket at least you can carry the light.

BELL : I just want to make sure you don't run off with my...

TOMAR : Nevermind. I don't want to know. Take this torch and hold it up.

We had to reverse pickpocket the torch into her inventory, but she got the picture. After a few hard fought battles, with her just charging in and Tomar sniping from the shadows. She takes a lot of abuse. Not being able to heal her, she finally gets hit enough that she is just on her knee. Later she was stuck in that position. Tomar reverse pickpockets some H-pots, but she still crawls around with that torch.

Giving up we went further. This allowed Tomar to do his thing. Picking them off one by one, as we stealthily advanced through the ruin, we came to a small hallway with a series of levers. The levers controlled a set of gates in the hall. Figuring this out we came to a large chamber filed with all kinds of undead. We needed a plan...

Tomar retreats to the gated hallway. He places enough explosives to crack the display on the TV. Afterwards we made it back to the chamber door and... :whistling: Well evidently these must have been Yankee Draugr, because they were very offended by Tomar's rendition of "Dixiland".

Here we go. Tomar darts back down the hall making sore the honored guests are in tow. As we clear the hall, Tomar hits the lever and drops the gate. The hallway quickly fills with undead. Tomar drops the gate at the other end.

Now, we could just feed them arrows, like throwing peanuts at the zoo, but what's the fun in that?

Tomar takes aim at the first explosive. It just takes one...The explosion was soooo big! There was a mix of every element in that makeshift cage. Some were blown through the game world. That was a lot more satisfying than shooting fish in a bucket.

Entering the cell of the final boss, Bell suddenly appears.

TOMAR : Well...are we felling better?

BELL : You just find my...

TOMAR : Ah,ah,ahhh....TMI, babe..TMI.

The boss fight lasted for 45 min. They both entered, but only one left the crypt. Tomar joins his brethren in the Skyrim Memorial.

Haha, I find this quite funny because I just did this with one of my other characters and I was "Why in the name of all the Divines do you keep pushing and bumping into me woman?!?" then I had Barbas in tow...oh man, that was just pushing my limits!

Nooooooo!

********

I had to give up Etheldred because after all the bug testing, then the Beta patch testing with all the removing/disabling/re-enabling mods I managed to mess the saves up a bit. She was initially intended for bug-testing so I think she served her purpose.
I also had to remove the only magic mod I was using as it was not playing nicely at all with the beta  and she was meant to be pure mage.

Now I have a creative block and I have no idea what to create next. I was even contemplating of playing myself, haha. Last time I did that was when I was a kid and I first played Morrowind, ages ago. Ehh, that somehow seems so far away now...

I have to laugh....Don't count the dull out. That is what I thought about Sandwich Head, in FONV. Turns out he was one of my fav characters.

then I had Barbas in tow...oh man, that was just pushing my limits!
I hated that dog from the first encounter. My first char couldn't get that quest done fast enough. She reminded me of him so much. Alas there was no mod for her...

Nooooooo!
That was my reaction, only with an advlt rating. I reloaded in a fit of rage for revenge....That turned out to be more painful than just letting it go.
---------------------------------------
EDIT : The bad thing is I was going to get him some more training in Destruction to have access to Runes, when I got out of there. I seen the need and they would have made a great trigger for traps. Oh well...............

Ha! This is where I am at right now. I will stew on a bit and hopefully something will pop up. Sometimes just playing around with the creator sparks a new idea. I just randomly make characters and stare at them and ask....Who are you? Where are you from? The next thing you know....you are playing a 3rd generation Inbred Albino Psychopathic Serial Killer in the wastelands of New Vegas.

That last part was a joke and it was the truth. That character that I spoke of, named Sandwich Head, was the inbred killer. I was just playing around and making funny looking faces and....BAM! Sandwich Head. I am sure you come up with an interesting character.

I just randomly make characters and stare at them and ask....Who are you? Where are you from? The next thing you know....you are playing a 3rd generation Inbred Albino Psychopathic Serial Killer in the wastelands of New Vegas.

Two times... R.I.P. Sandwich Head & Sandwich Head II :sadvaultboy:

Already doing that bud! The "Asfaloth" girl is using Iron armor only. Or the Ancient Nord, because I really love that one!

Yeah, she's a cutie :P

You are ever so correct Mags my friend. I have FONV on the PC now. It may be time for "SH3, the Redux", with that cool Cimema Tech mod. In the splotchy Quentin Tarantino film type.

Me too... just bought the ultimate edition on PC together with oblivion 5th anniversary edition & a FO3 GOTY al so on PCcccccccccccccccccc :twirl:

Edit: Maybe i'll do the same with my "Rob Zombie film type" char Otis Driftwood

Spoiler
Otis Driftwood was born December 23rd, 2229. He was horribly neglected and abused by his parents, who didn't even give him a name. He committed his first murder at the age of thirteen, presumably his parents.
He was a drifter for much of his life, travelling over the country from Nipton to Vegas. In the northern Mojave at Brooks Tumbleweed Ranch, he met Boone (later to be known as Captain Spaulding), and was soon living with his new friend's family, whom he had renamed "the Fireflys". This family consisted of Boone's girlfriend, who was then called Veronica Santangelo, whom Driftwood nicknamed "Mama Firefly"; Veronica's two freak offsprings, Raul aka Rufus and Lily aka Tiny; and the daughter of Boone and Veronica. Rose-Mary, with whom Otis formed an immediate bond and nicknamed "Angel-Baby" and later just "Baby".

Otis is by far the most sadistic member of the Firefly family. He often considers himself to be a revolutionary and an artist; he makes sculptures out of his victims, or skins them to wear as costumes

Ten years after Otis joined the family, he and Baby roamed the states, murdering anyone in their path. These violent killings were referred to as the "Son of Satan Murders". Later, in the winter of 2276, Baby returned to Brooks Tumbleweed Ranch alone and resumed her life on the Firefly farm while Driftwood continued his murderous rampage. He travelled over the country stealing and selling drugs to survive. When business were slow, he took a job as a courier, but eventually got himself stranded at Goodsprings after he was left for dead...

That last part was a joke and it was the truth. That character that I spoke of, named Sandwich Head, was the inbred killer. I was just playing around and making funny looking faces and....BAM! Sandwich Head. I am sure you come up with an interesting character.

Whaaaa....a crazy, demented, psychotic Forsworn woman. Time to get that Master Criminal achievement! Mwahahaha! Now if only I can "addfac" myself to the Forsworn and not have that cause troubles.
Time for some serious misdemeanor and mayhem!

Uhuhuhu, Live Another Life has a Forsworn alternate!

Well Abishai lasted a good 20 min before biting the bullet, or the ice bolt, in this case. Used the live another life mod to start around Solitude and tried to get somewhere wearing only fine clothes. Apparently that wasn't a good idea. Back to the drawing board I guess.

I played around with another "practice" character briefly and am getting trounced by practically any magic user. How do you guys combat this on higher difficulties? I'm going to try a pure mage (no weapons, no potions and robes only) playthrough, but right now I seem to be dropped by the first "novice fill-in-the-blank mage" I see, at least on expert. Do I just need to use ward spells more often?

I hate mages and Ice Spikes more than watching an Opra Winfrey six tape. I try to either take them out from range, let a follower get their attention and then run in, with a hammer, and turn their head into a bowl of Mammoth Cheese.

As far as playing a Mage. I have not explored the Destruction path yet. Truthfully...each time I have a mage that done any good, was a Conjuration / Illusionist.
