The Unofficial Booze Thread

Back when I still drank my choice was Crown Royal (occasionally) chased down with a bottle of MGD (that's Miller Genuine Draft to those that don't already know)

...Then about six years ago I walked into work and was handed a cup. "Here put something in this," thay said. Oops, I guess I shouldn't have been tokin' on that number too. With a little bit of luck I kept my job and haven't looked back since. The funny part of it is that I don't really miss it as much as I thought I would when this all started.

What did I tell you about hanging around with Jim Beam?? That man is nothing but trouble!
I thought he meant Jim Lahey.

Anyone who wants to prove they are brave as they are stupid, http://www.sensis.ro/data_files/product_photos/2108/Rom-cadou-Stroh-Original-80-perc-large.jpg Go on, it will put hairs on your chest, if you survive.

80 proof Rum is nothing. Try 101 proof, or if you can, 151. That'll put hairs on your chest and make you breath fire plenty.

I believe that's 80% ABV, not proof...

Edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stroh; I wasn't really sure what proof means, turns out it was last used here in the UK in the 1970s.

Vometia talking sense/to the rescue once again. 80 % bv is 160 proof.

So, Saturday night was pretty sweet. I didn't actually get any of the beers you guys recommended though, sorry.

I did have: Paulaner, Erdinger (the clear one with the white coloured label, can't remember what it's called), four bottles of Staropramen (best lager ever), a Heineken, some rather nice Russian stuff (name begins with a B, can't remember it though), and two Desperados (I bloody love Desperados).

Also had half a bottle of Mickey Finns (silly apple-flavoured, uber weak liquor) and some really nice white wine.

As you'd expect, today was rough. :P

I've been thinking of drinking when at home after work and stuff but I can never seem to do it, I just don't fully see the appeal in sitting at home in my room or infront of the TV drinking away alone.....Whats the appeal for others?
I much prefer getting (half) [censored]faced at the weekends at clubs with the company of my friends
It's not something I decide to do in advance. Some days if I've had a [censored] day at work (or a great day), or just generally need to wind down, I'll crack open a couple of bottles and chill out with a couple of computer games. Never get drunk on a weekday night though.

I was just strolling along, and I happened to *BUMP* into this thread...

Yeah. I bought a bunch of weird beers on Saturday. Seven in total - a fairly tame amount. Four beers in, felt hammered. Looked at the labels - they were all 10-14% ABV. :bonk:

I'm no alcohol snob but Desperados are [censored] gross. Maybe it was just because the one I had had loads of lime in it, but it was really nasty. Corona's pretty much the same thing and much nicer.

I respectfully disagree. Coronas are nice, but they are Desperados lite and also about 1.7% ABV weaker.

It's weird - I don't like tequila at all, but the tequila edge to Desperados really works. I once threw two shots of tequila into a Desperado. That was horrible.

If I wanted to get drunk I'd drink something else, they're just something nice and light you can slowly chug throughout an evening, without having the downside of tasting like an explosion in a sugar factory like Desperados.

You think Desperados taste overly sugary? I generally hate sugary drinks - I don't think Desperados are overly sweet at all.

It may be nostalgia influencing me slightly though - Desperados were probably the first drink that got me drunk.

I think it might just have been an excessively lime-y lime that was ruining the taste. I had also had a few by then. Also I thought Desperados were quite new? I'm sure I've only started seeing them around fairly recently.

Drinking is overrated. there is only one good thing about it and that is increased sensation during six. A nice cold beer on a hot day can be great too, but other than that its a waste of time imo.

I pretty much agree with this.. but I continue to drink for god knows what reason...

Tonight I started with some Kahlua and milk and finished with some Canadian Club (rye) and coke.. Not uncommon. My favourite drink though is probably gin and tonic.

I had my first Desperado in France, around 2002-2003. I've only recently seen them in Ireland in the last couple of years though. Not sure about anywhere else.

You can over-lime them - I now drink my Desperados without any fruit. Still stick a small slice of lime in my Coronas though. Damn I'd love a Corona right now.

Since it's my standard practice to have a few cool ones and watch a Bruins game on the odd weekday, I thought I'd stop by and say hello to this thread.

And add this, which I coincidentally watched earlier today:

I had that exact brand just 2 weeks ago. 2 shots and 2 rum and coke using that, pretty tasty when you dismiss the burn.
I also made some homemade wine that was recently finished. That was not that good, but it's a cheap way to get drunk.
Also looking into making homemade beer sometime soon.

Today I had 2 glasses of gl?gg and a gin and tonic. It was nice.

Baltika, maybe? I've only had Baltika 9, which I like. They have a pretty big line from what I gather.

I only drink when I watch women's softball and the WCWS. When I do, I go with Jim Beam Black or Devil's Cut.

Not a fan of mixed drinks. When I'm trying to get a buzz on I usually go for Patron Silver. Can shoot that stuff easily on account of it's smoothness. I'll occasionally drink Jack Daniels as well, easily my favorite whiskey.
