The Unofficial Booze Thread

Ale is good.

But as a poor college student we have to stick with sweet, delicious coors light. /sarcasm

Living in Canada, even that's too expensive for me lol... Lucky, Boxer or PBR. Normally I just get a cheap vodka 26 though.

Well I myself don't drink (anymore) However I have a lodger that only drinks a cheap red wine that has 20% alc. and costs $6 a bottle.
It's his favorite - he doesn't buy any other type of alcohol and he drinks 3 bottles day - everyday !
He's drank it since he was 13 he is now 69.
It's called 74 and refers to itself on the label as a sherry. It tastes like vinegar.
I have known him for the last 20 years and except for hospital stays he has never been sober.

So I guess this must be a great drink.

I'm joining the non-drinkers (or at least occasional-drinkers) too. :( My lack of weight-loss is depressing me and it's the most identifiable source of excess calories...

I've been thinking of drinking when at home after work and stuff but I can never seem to do it, I just don't fully see the appeal in sitting at home in my room or infront of the TV drinking away alone.....Whats the appeal for others?
I much prefer getting (half) [censored]faced at the weekends at clubs with the company of my friends

It can be an effective way to unwind, especially after a stressful day. Problem for me is that most days are stressful since I spend most of my time being stressed, so it's not ideal. Going out and drinking with friends is indeed far preferable!

As for me, looks like I'll be investigating the stress-relief properties of tea from now on, except on the rare occasions I actually venture out.

As Vometia said, it can be nice after a particularly stressful day. I do like getting in after a hard day's work and occasionally cracking open a beer or chilling with a glass of wine. (Yes, contrary to what you all may think, I don't always drink like a drunk on his last day before mandatory rehab!)

Different strokes for different strokes though - drink in situations you enjoy drinking, don't in situations that don't appeal to you.

When I was 13 I pretended to smoke to impress girls and other guys. I never smoked unless I was with a bunch of other kids.
One day when I was 15, and I remember this day like it was yesterday (actually it was 55 years ago) I had an urge to smoke and lit up for the first time alone. I was addicted and it took another 15 years to quit for good.
Drinking can very much be like that. When you do start to drink alone it can (not necessarily) become the beginning of being a drunkard and eventually an alcoholic.
If you are young and fairly new to boozing and can still make the choice, i would suggest you don't drink at all.

Sorry OP don't want to mess with this thread so I'll let you know what my favorite drinks WERE.

Vodka first one with juice, second one with a side of water, third and the rest for the evening, straight.
Rum with blackcurrent juice.
Brandy.
Mead (honeywine)
After a while it really didn't matter as long as it contained alcohol. (which is when I decided it's time to quit.)

I only really drink at parties and out at clubs/pubs, not often I go to them but it's good fun. I've had one "binge" session but really that was just an empty stomach and loads of alcohol with no normal drink breaks. I had always said to myself set these breaks and eat plenty but that one night showed me the reason why I set those targets in the first place, damn me for forgetting them and having to hear my dad as he drove me home
I know a lot of people have said this but meh, I don't think I'll ever get addicted to booze because frankly I'm not near it enough to develop a habit nor am i willing to spend my money on it every time I feel a thirst. Still got plenty left from parties gone by: 12 Buds, 1 JackDaniels (unopened), 1 Whyte&MacKay and 1 and a half bottles of Apple Sourz. Saving up for a rainy day

I can see the reason for drinking as a stress relief it just doesn't seem like that much of an appeal though, like there's a ton of things that can help with that, like shouting at the xbox :P But every man his own I guess. Maybe I will see the appeal later in life when there is mini-me's running around.

I would still recommend a Rockstar and Apple Sourz mix ;)

Yay, another opportunity to champion John Powers Irish Whiskey. Three swallows, don't forget, give it the same respect as the poitín. Follow with a pint of Beamish.

Powers is nice. Swap the Beamish for a Guinness though. ;-)

I think you're going about this the wrong way. It's not something you decide to do.
I sometimes have a drink on my own because I like the taste and it's nice and relaxing after a stressfull day, or after a hard days work. In the same way a soda can be if you prefer that.
But I never had to have a real thought process over weather I should start drinking on my own, that just sounds weird.

If you one day come home and feel a nice glass of whatever would be good, then have a glass. But you don't need to think it over before as you seem to be doing.
I rarely drink enough to even get a buzz when I'm alone though. And if I do, it's because I just happen to have chosen alcohol to go with each food/snack that night, still no real thought behing that though. I just drink what I feel like drinkingm sometimes that water, sometimes soda and sometimes it's alcohol.

I like rum. It's pretty much the only thing I drank at my 21st birthday a few weeks ago.

I see absinthe being brought up a few times. Never really tried much of it myself. Had a shot of Gothica (80%) once, felt like my chest was on fire.
