The Werewolf situation

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 4:29 pm

LOL so the silver hands are quintessentially the Ghostbusters of Skyrim?? Wow im thoroughly impressed. Ok so im sorta a svcker for details so i wanted to know:

1. Exactly how did the transformation look? Was it like a magical glow came around him and he instantly was a werewolf or was it more like he was busting out of his clothes and u see his body slowly go from human to dogish?

2. Where are the Companions headquartered? Like exactly where do u find them, in a city or some clandestine locale?

For the sake of not getting flamed you can add the answer to these questions in the form of spoiler tags or you can just pm me whichever you perfer...lol i feel like a prisoner writing letters to his bff on the outside trying to keep up with the goings on of life

1) It was gradual. He keeled over and let out a deep cry, grew a tail, sprouted fur and grew by a few feet. You will most likely only see it from the back (while trapped in that cage) so you won't see his facial features change, but you will get that opportunity later on in the game.

2) They're quite easy to find in Whiterun, easily accessible in town.

The question is very vague, don't you think? How could Pete know he/she was talking about werewolves? Anyways, I think the forced third-person view can be taken as a way of separating your character from their more beastly side. Anyone read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitty_Norville? When the main character turns, the book narrates in third person to distance her from her Ms. Hyde. Still, I can see the point. First-person would be good.

It is vague, but it is also all encompasing, so the answer could very well cover the werewolf issue.

The only reason for the third person in the game would be, like with horses, they weren't happy with the look of it first person. I have no problem with the 3rd person view, just trying to alleviate some fears of others.

but wait. all the screenshots have shown that if you complete hircine's daedric quest you get hircine's ring, allowing you to transform into a werewolf, so which is it do you get it from hircine? or do you get it from the circle? or both? and the ring says it gives you transformation powers, does that mean if you become a werewolf in some other place besides hircines quest without his ring, that you can't control it or something?

You can definitely acquire beast blood through the Companions.

We can't discuss leaked screenshots, so please edit that part of your post if you see this on time, but I believe there will be multiple ways of becoming a werewolf :)

Pretty sure the ring only works if youre already a werewolf.

Still, it's very easy to take that as meaning something like a glitch or a quest item.

I know. At least there are mods on PC. Which I'm not getting it for. Really I'm just telling myself that the forced 3PV is symbolic...

Why in the world take out first person mode just for this?
Same reason they have forced third-person finishers and forced third-person horse riding. We'll never know why they didn't provide an option for them to be first-person in a primarily first-person game. For all we know, the ability to play as a werewolf was added in late, and they didn't have time to get first-person animations working well. Don't forget, there wasn't any real public feedback until after the game was announced less than a year ago, and the popularity of playable werewolves may not have sunk in until comparatively late in development... or playable werewolves weren't that high on the list of features to get them done earlier.

Maybe it will be patched in later, but as it stands, if the reports are true I wouldn't expect first-person werewolf play on release (don't get me wrong, I really hate being forced into third person; it's just most likely the case, unfortunately). But still, it's much better than not having it at all.

While I agree yeah its not a 100% gaurentee he was reffering to werewolves, Pete I'm sure is not ignorant of whats been talked about on the forums, and the 3rd person werewolf thing has come up quite abit, its the only 3rd person issue to have come up sense the leaks started.

Guess we'll know in a week! Roughly 150 hours to go

Waitwaitwait... Finishers eating people's faces off... Doing that in first-person? I'd rather not...
@Jeckal Waiting patiently is so hard. Patience is not a virtue. Hurrying the [censored] up and getting stuff done is a virtue. :)

If it's anything like Oblivion, it will be very difficult (if not impossible) to enable proper first-person view where the engine forces third-person.

Yes BUT its hard for ppl to make hits in 3rd person....atleast it is for me.
I think it is just a non complete build, it did ONLY JUST go GOLD this morning after all

There is no reason for 1st person finishers (wouldn't look as good imo) or horse riding, specially horse riding

May be hard for you and me, but there are people that like and do use third-person combat.

They're review copies. They're what journalists use to write their reviews of the finished game. It may not be the final 1.0 build, but it's extremely close.

There's first-person combat and travel, and the game is designed to be first-person. There's no reason to not make finishers and horse riding first-person too. Just because you may not like first-person in those situations doesn't mean we shouldn't have the option (you could switch to third-person as you want, but many players hate being forced into third-person for any reason). We play first-person games to play in first-person, and Skyrim is supposed to be a first-person game with an optional third-person mode.

has anyone ever said it was made a 1st person game? I have never read that and true but if thats the case than we should be able to be werewolves in 3rd or 1st person

I enjoyed horse riding in 1st person but prefer 3rd person sometimes, they should have just left the 1st n 3rd person aspects the same imho

I think they're going off Todd's narration of the demo videos where he said Skyrim is primarily designed as a first person game. Personally, I like to switch back and forth between 1st and 3rd person views to keep it interesting. I had no trouble with melee fights in Oblivion in 3rd person but aiming weapons like bows and spells were almost impossible to use due to the lack of a targeting crosshair.

OT I've seen a bit of werewolf "stuff" lately. Without giving anything away all I can say is...

Not in previous games, and I don't believe this will be possible in Skyrim either-- not because the two diseases are biologically incompatible in one host per se, but perhaps that would be too much power for one individual. How would it affect the stats, what would it look like, etc...

Wait did I miss a post saying that?

So do we only turn into a werewolf with a spell type thing or is it nightly as well?

They have their own gory finishing moves and can eat people after they are dead but cannot loot them... :celebrate:

edit: eating them does not make their body dissapear, but it does regain your health

edit 2: eating is a 3 second animation of werewolves claws sort of digging at the body with blood splattering eveywhere, and also it seems that werewolves are 3rd person only, and they sprint REALLY fast.
