There several things I would have liked them to do with Dawnguard:
1. As others have noted, having the Volkihar NPCs recognize your status. It is ridiculously annoying that I still have one of them threatening me every time I go near him. The Dark Brotherhood doesn't have this problem, so why does Dawnguard?
2. Radiant quests to expand the influence of the Volkihar faction. New Allegiances was a great start, but I would have liked more quests along these lines. In fact, I would have liked quests to expand your influence in Winterhold, Riften, and Markarth. You convert those characters, and the only perk to doing so is for RP reasons and a coffin to sleep in while in any of those towns. They should have allowed us to have radiant quests for those characters that would have allowed us to exert our influence in the city.
3. I would really like for them to repair the Vingalmo bugs. On my main playthrough, I never got "The Gift" and it bothers me to have a Vampire Lord Dovahkiin that is married to a mortal spouse. Similarly, I wish they would have had more than just 3 options for Vingalmo's New Allegiances quest. I think it would have made sense to have someone to covert in every hold capital, but that is just me. Regardless, this bug REALLY needs fixed. Because of it, there are actually a finite number of Volkihar radiant quests because you will eventually run into the Vingalmo problem.
4. I wish that the Dovahkiin's home would be more indicate of his status as vampire. By this, I mean having a coffin available in each home. They are flavorful and they further my immersion with vampire characters. I don't think it would have taken much either, only the addition of a basemant to each home to conceal it if that is what is necessary. I hope Hearthfire allows for us to correct this as vampires are a part of the vanilla game too.
5. This is also another immersion tick for me, but I'd like for them to fix the "Writs of Dawn". They state that, through the Jarl's permission, they are free to attack you as a suspected vampire. Seeing as how I am thane, shouldn't this have repercussions? If the Jarl is convinced I am a vampire, why am I still thane? Are they afraid to strip me of the title? Are they afraid that since these assassinations have failed, they might as well submit? Having permission from the Jarl makes absolutely no sense if you are not going to have consequences for it. Please eliminate that line Bethesda, or add some kind of quest line in which you have to convince the Jarl that you are not a vampire. Maybe even add a questline in which you can change the Jarl's stance against the Dawnguard. I doubt any of those options will happen, but I think they would be awesome. In any case, I'd recommend adding them or removing that line from the writs. Believe it or not Bethesda, there are some players who actually read what they pick up and it kills the immersion to have glaring issues like these.
6. I kind of wish that there was a way to deal a more crippling blow to the Dawnguard (I've only done the vampire side). It is awesome that you can hit them hard later on, but there is nothing in the game to reflect the kind of blow you just dealt to them. The Dawnguard attacks continue as they always did and none of them carry notes to suggest just how bad things really are for them as an organization. I would have greatly preferred for there to be a feature like Fallout 3's megaton bomb questline to allow us to destroy Fort Dawnguard or Castle Volkihar, then have references made to it the same way there was in Fallout 3. I get really immersed into these games and that was something I loved about Fallout 3, but found very lacking in Skyrim as a whole. If I have to settle for" cutting the head off of the serpent", at least have something there to make references to it. Little things like this go a long way in these types of games.
