This Forum has the nicest and least childish community

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 12:33 pm

I'm serious. I came from a few forums. I have been examining how people act on each forum. Gears of war 3 forum, Battlefield 3 forum, and for the testing reasons, Modern Warfare 3 forums.

While I was part of those forums, I noticed whenever I made a thread or a post, 50% of the time I would get negative responses. Negative Responses, insults, and the feeling of hatred spewed those forums. You would honestly have to watch what you say on those due to the fact that if you messed up, well, your going to get made fun of in an aggressive way

On the other hand we have Bethseda Forums. I noticed that Everybody(besides a select few : l) will show support and constructive criticism, and just a feeling of compassion.

FOR EXAMPLE: Just today I made a thread on here with a poll where I forgot a third option. The responses from the people that were part of the third option, were vary mature. They said "Since their is not a both option, I couldn't vote". You would think that would be a normal response right?

Well on the other forums, these are what the comments looked like. "This poll couldn't be more biased, awful", "Biased poll is biased" "Poll is [censored]". What enraged me was not what they were pointing out, I was furious about the fact that they cared more about the options that they completely ignored the topic itself

Well, all in all, I just noticed that this forum often shows the nicer side of people. Not saying that there aren't that select few that continuously act immature and not productive at all, but it's still the best out there.

Good job guys keep it up

This is also probably the best forum with decent mods that know how to act fairly when it comes to what people can and can not say. Some forum mods are well, a holes, like those over at Bioware. All I did when DA2 came out was maturely let others know my distain for the game and company and I was instantly banned. Then reading some other threads I found out the mods there lock and ban anyone who even say something against the Bioware company.

with everyone here making the Gears forums sound like 'The Place One Should Not Go' I'm happy I've never gone there now.

Ya it was not enjoyable. But have you been to the BF3 forums? Are you the only one that can relate to what I'm talking about ahaha

There are some people on both sides of Skyrim, camped out and waiting for opportunities to eviscerate people.

But, that's everywhere, and there are only a handful of said people, comparatively to other places I have been. I think there are more people on the forums that dislike the game, than I recall in other places, but I may be wrong.

W/E though. I wouldn't come back here if I didn't like it here, so It is pretty good.

I'm a member on the Madden NFL Talk forums and it's really bad for hatred and flaming. You post an opinion and get absolutely attacked.

Now wait a second! Who moved this thread out of the nice Skyrim forum? Cheating moderators... stealing the praise.

Most of the people on those FPS sites base the validity of what you say on your K/D ratio so unless you have a high KDR your oppinion is considered rubbish.

I have seen many flammed over a topic because of their KDR only to see the person doing the flamming being praised for the exact same topic.

Many FPS players have a strange mentality.

Although this forum does have a percentage of idiots, I agree with the OP that on the whole it is better behaved than some others. I guess that role playing games require a bit more thought and patience than games of say the Call of Duty type, and so probably appeal to a slightly more 'mature' player.

I suppose you have to consider that many of the other forums you mentioned are related to shooters that tend to appeal to a younger demographic - where things like role play, strategy and an attention span of greater than 3.4 seconds are simply not required, and unfortunately, there are a percentage of younger forum members that often display sociopathic tendencies when safely hidden behind the anonymity of the internet.

I've always felt that this forum is a really nice place, which is why I've been here a really really long time. We have gotten so much bigger that it can be hard to recognize the place anymore.

I'm not trying to pick on you Stannie, but as someone that can read all the warnings we dispense, sociopathic tendencies are far from limited to the younger members. I've met 35 year olds that lack maturity.

I love these forums :)

The moderators do their job perfectly and the community over all is just fantastic.

Compared to other Gaming forums, this one is heaven.

You are mistaken. While this forum is indeed nice can one still communicate with the people of these other, harsher forums. It is only more difficult. A nice forum is more forgiving, but it does not mean that one should pass judgement around, and just because one can.

On the harsher forums will you get flamed for referring to others as idiots, sometimes just for not being specific about who you target with your judgement. The harsher forums will teach you a lot more lessons about human behaviour including your own than the nice ones do.

The problems start when people do not want to learn these lessons, but still wish to be a part of those forums. They are in fact trying to carry their own rules into these forums, if good or bad is irrelevant as it is just another judgement, and forget that the forum already has got its own rules. It is like going into another country and not learning the local rules and to measure people with only the rules you already know.

Nicest and least childish? Clearly OP hasn't seen how people in the Fallout forum get when you say 'Old Fallout games before Fallout 3 svck', 'Fallout 3: New Vegas', or mention....the....the Burned Game. NCR vs Legion threads get nasty too.

Not trying to sound like I came from 'Nam, everybody listen to me. But seriously, I just felt like telling all of you guys that this forum is great. Enjoy it.

Thank you for holding us in comparatively high regard. It's much appreciated.

Probably because the average age here is quite high. Unlike other forums. I'd say atleast 1/2 of the forum is above 18, and if they aren't above 18, they are still pretty mature (I'm 15).

Edit: Checked community poll. it's actually about 2/3.

We do have a great forum here. The strict moderation for hate threads really keeps this place nice. That and the community is generally nicer here, with some exceptions. I used to frequent the bungie forums often but have since abanded that account, due to the overwhelmingly negative vibe I get from b.net.

Well, as someone who does play more than his fair share of shooters and RPGs, with then visiting official forums of said games... I actually think--while still agree this forum is the nicest--that antagonism in posts is something that is not the worst in competitive game forums. I've visited several singleplayer RPG forums where not only was the trolling really, really bad, but the mods there would actually encourage such. Would even initially instigate said trolling. From my perspective, unrestrained bad behavior is just that.

trolls get banned fast, rules are actively enforced by active moderators, all the usual topics that cause even slight trouble are banned.

There's really no room in there for non-nice behavior. We live in a peaceful totalitarian state :P

I was on the WOW forums, when i played and that was just the same trolls who flamed anyone who said anything or started any thread, and the moderators there did nothing at all, it makes a real difference when the mods are actually paying attention rather than ignoring the forum.

I love the New Vegas section, you do get the occasional troll(I'm not judging, but they largely hale from Skyrim or Fallout 3), but it generally stays pretty civil. You can also get some great conversations about the lore of the games in the Fallout Series and Universe sections with some of the more experienced members, though some of the less experienced ones find it difficult to refrain from putting their YouTube shell on. I haven't been into the Elder Scrolls side too much, but the Oblivion General section seems like one of the friendliest places on this site.

I do always come back here to the Community, just to relax with a nice glass of Guinness or a cup of tea.
