Todd's pc surprise

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 2:43 pm

There are a lot advantages to DX11 but not necessarily all of them are for the user. DX11 MTR would be a good feature to use for Skyrim.
But it's not needed. Skyrim is already easy on graphics cards. Maybe they'd look at it to get better performance out of laptops perhaps, but desktop cards are already more than capable of running Skyrim very well.

Why? Myself, I am looking forward to it.

Just because there are already multiple texture packs that go up to 4096x4096 on the nexus.

Well, like a lot of DX11 games, if you don't like it just don't use DX11 mode and stop tell people it's not "needed". DX11 can improve performance by the way, that's what MTR does it it did in Civ 5 since it's pretty much the only game that implemented it properly.

The texture pack makes the most sense and is the only guess with supporting evidence, but I wouldn't mind seeing DX11 now that I have a card that supports it. Some other things on my wishlist would be a fancy new script editor with syntax highlighting and autocomplete, some awesome mod put together by the CK beta testing group (like Emma's companion mod fully ported to Skyrim), mods for consoles, or Oblivion, Fallout 3, and New Vegas ported into the Creation engine.

I want the PC version. I really want mods and the creation kit. But my harddrive is screwed. :(

How would that be PC exclusive?

I don`t get excited by DX11 support.

You shouldn't, considering it just DX10 with a few bug fixes that should have made it into DX 10 in the first place.

id take dx11....id be real excited about mountable dragons(for flying), the return of xbows, the return of layered clothing, and most important id like to see children sleep in the game(i find it creepy that they just sit there all night why everyone else is asleep!)
I find it creepy that you want to watch children sleep.
And I probably won't be too excited by the texture pack. The graphics are pretty enough for me as it is. Boring from an artistic standpoint, but pretty.

What do you think we're getting - (check the ign article if you don't know what I'm talking about). Rumours abound that we're getting dx11 although I bet that Steamworks will launch with some free beth mods. There's mudcrab armour in the construction kit trailer. Maybe there will be some extra goodies. I think some free horse armour would be funny.

Yaaayyy, I put itn 300+ hours, made it to level 56..... just to get mudcrab armor. Can't wati!

I'm expecting just some fun Beth made mods on the Steam workshop thing. An Adoring Fan, or something.

Well DX11 runs on only the most expensive of graphic cards right? But you also still need Win7 64 bit to get the best out of it and possibly more sytem Ram. So while a lot of people were expecting miracles they lost out with slowdown and THEN discovered either their graphics card wasn`t DX11 or they were missing Win7 64bit or they didn`t have enough Ram, etc, etc.

It wasn`t the wondrous thing to all men that some expected.

I`d rather they did more to fix the game for everyone, not just people with super computers and £4- £500 graphic cards.

Just to be clear, Windows 7, whether 32 or 64 bit has DirectX 11. The 64-bit version of Windows 7 allows for more RAM, among other things. It has nothing to do with DirectX 11

And all of today's video cards are DX11 capable. If you have one that isn't, well you you're probably getting bad performance out of it anyway seeing how it's old tech as DX11 cards are the standard now.

Maybe a Mac version? And yes, before you say it, I know you can run it through Parallels....

And almost all of them are terrible, or very incomplete

I'd much rather have an officall pack. Especially if they do stuff like make all their textures support Paralaxx mapping or have more depth in their normal maps. It would look incredible if Skyrim pulled off good bump/parallax mapping.

Wouldn't call the unoficial packs terrible, but incomplete is a certain thing.

I would love a high resolution texture pack from Bethesheda themselfs, now just hope our suspecions are correct.

Oh, please. My 460GTX supports DX11 and you can find those for $100 now.

And saying DX11 made other peoples game slow down because they didn't have DX11 or Windows 7 64bit ( which is not required to run DX11 ) is a flat out lie.

Those people would have just continued to play using DX9 or DX10 and not noticed a thing.

Please learn what DX is before spouting nonsense next time.

Some of them try, but are, well... less than impressive. Others are very impressive and beautifully done.

If beth releases the original textures that would be amazing. I find it hard to believe the originals were 1024x1024 and 512x512. No way they are that stupid lol. Im sure it would be easy for them to just release the full size textures with new normal maps :D That would be sweet.

DX11 would be amazing but I would not want it unless they also released the high res textures and tesseation. Although it DX11 support is built into the engine im sure someone could mod tesselation but if beth did it I would love them till DX12 :P

But lets keep our hopes low, otherwise we will be disappointed.

There are plenty of us here who can't run DX11, so hopefully, if DX11 support is added, they'll continue to support DX9 or 10 as well.

Not sure why people want DX11 so badly. It's not going to magically make the game look any better, though it may run nicer on newer hardware.

Shadows and the like are things handled by the game engine, and it just flat out doesn't do certain things. They would have to also make DX11 features work with features in the game engine to get any kind of graphics benefit, and since Skyrim was built for consoles in mind, that'd be a helluva lot of work for some fancy shadows or sun rays.

If we get anything related to graphics it would be that rumored texture pack. That in itself is far more needed than anything IMO, some of the game's textures are just insultingly bad/low res. But even with that picture I have serious doubts about it.

I don't know about you guys but a hi-res pack or especially DX11 support seem a little too good to be true.

I don't want to be a killjoy but keep your expectations low.

Hehe. Here is a http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/648752695742747186/4AEA42102EEBCD0FBBFC2941C5CFBBE15B3C36D5/ I coincidentally took the other day to show what kind of sceneries you can expect
It stands out as being a videogame simply because of the power line shadows. They are of the wrong orientation to the lighting, and are too well defined for their distance from the ground.

Just because there are already multiple texture packs that go up to 4096x4096 on the nexus.
No texture pack is complete though. They are only a handful of textures. An official pack would probably cover the vast majority of things in the game world.

Not to mention most texture mods change the look of the textures, and I personally, like the overall look of default textures. So higher res defaults would be nice.

A lot of the texture mods also lack the depth of the vanilla textures despite their high res. If you look at them from any reasonable distance they'll appear to be more flat and bland than vanilla.

Some mods don't do this but most do, and it's a shame. People have to stop seeing 4096x and immediately assuming quality.
