some modder is going to make an anime race that's even more dolled up than what you've seen and really make the game un-immersive. look like crap. Cater to different aesthetic preferences.

re: makeup.
Remember Oblivion's character creator? With sliders for to darken or lighten the eyeliner, eyesockets, lips, cheeks? Yeah.

Also, if "oh, look.... a bare amount of lipstick and eyeliner" is too much makeup..... hmm.
Additionally, I find those presets ugly as heck.... dirty, grungy, wrinkley.... I'm looking forward/hoping to make something more like that barmaid.
And finally.... yes, it may not completely match the "realistic" hygiene and appearance standards of a medieval society, to have eyeliner and other stuff on the average townsperson. But it's not being designed to be seen by 1) "realism" nuts, or 2) historians. The game is being designed to be seen and appreciated by general audiences with modern sensibilities and aesthetic ideals. So, just like TV and the movies, it's not going to be historically accurate/"realistic". It's going to be "Hollywood accurate"... In other words, it's going to look like what
modern people think medieval & rugged is. Better teeth, better skin, better hair.... kind of like how "ugly" characters on TV are still pretty by more rational standards. (Unless, of course, they're badguys.)
