Nah, you're thinking of F2P MMOs.

I might be. I guess I'll just wait and see how this whole auction house thing pans out in a few days. It's still too early to really tell.

The online store seems stupid and like I said, is probably going to turn me off to the game. I don't want to be forced to buy pretend items with real money. I'm looking on the Blizzard forums and there are threads for items upwards of $100; WTF? Hopefully that's not true.

I just don't want to buy the game then get stuck at level 10 or something and have no way to advance without being forced into the store to spend real money. I hate games on the Android OS that do the same.
There's apparently a limit of $250 real money per item. What I heard anyway. I haven't read up on it too much.
And you won't get stuck at lvl 10 ... or lvl 50. Diablo is not that kind of game. You can easily still "win" with crap gear, you'll just take a bit longer to do so. And by a little, I mean not much. Unless they changed the game a lot from previous incarnations, which I doubt.

Nobody blames you for being wary, I assure you. The single most important and core element of Diablo has always been the character progression via skills and loot. If even a little bit of it were to be withheld from the game and placed into an online store, it'd be the equivalent of releasing an unfinished game.

So, I loved both Diablo and DIablo II and don't know anything about Diablo III has anyone picked this up? Is it an MMO or is there a SP side to it? I'm contemplating picking it up but don't know too much about it, I've not followed it.
Aside from the auction house and online-only drm, which have been mentioned plenty, I've got little interest since it seems to have abandoned a lot of the depth I liked from Diablo 2. You can't set attributes, and skills are simply unlocked at higher levels and can be swapped with other equipped skills whenever you want. So basically, one barbarian is the same as any other, which kills a lot of potential replay value for me.

You don't even have to use the AH(RM-or gold) to play the game. Ever.
Diablo 2 had people buying and selling items all the time, it was just under the table. Now its all legit, and there if you want it.
Don't want to use it? Don't use it then.

Loot still drops from mobs like always. NPC's still sell things, you can still buy and sell things. All without the auction house.

All it took away was the "everyone follows this one/two best build" things.

You will still have Sword and board barbs, dual wield barbs and 2hander barbs.
Only the WD class is left out, no dual wield for them.

Have you even looked at the skill tree?
http://diablo3area.com/diablo3-barbarian-skills.php

Each skill has a added effect runes and so on. Then the passive skills.

Well, that svcks. Of course, I can still enjoy the game if everything else is great and I never feel like I'm being cheated of the full experience by not buying from the store. Hell, I take advantage of any opportunity to praise Median XL, and that mod has a very linear skill progression system.

While this may be true, I find it's a particularly greedy way to change how trading always worked. In D2, you met with players and traded in-game currency or equipment for stuff you wanted, and if you couldn't find someone with that thing you wanted, you'd just have to continue your search for it. Was it frustrating at times? Yes, but I'd rather have that than be told "If you really want it, that'll be $20."

I know, one score was 0 and consisted of repeating "", like that has anything to do with D3.
Most of the "reviews" are garbage spam.

Are you serious?
No you buy the game and you never have to buy anything from the RMAH, ever. You can if you want. You can even sell items on the market if you want.
You still have a normal auction house that uses in game gold.

Complaining about online only DRM.
Well then, don't buy the game.

Once you have the game you are not required to buy any gear, its 100% NOT NEEDED. You can get everything you want from drops. Its just easier/quicker to find goods on the in game gold AH and the RMAH.

I haven't even play the game, but some of this foolishness amazes me, meta critic scores are low but if you read some of these "reviews" you will see its mostly garbage from people who can't into grammar/spelling or just put down a bogus review to troll.

Titan, I'm not complaining I just haven't been following the game and am not sure how it works. Sorry, if it seems like I'm complaining. I'm just weary like SubTonic says. I just don't want to get locked into something I don't want to do. I also didn't complain about the online requirement, just asked what it was for if it wasn't for playing with other players across the net. Even Steam allows you to disable the online requirement once you've activated the game. I'm fine with Blizzard's online requirement. I'm just apprehensive about the "REAL MONEY" Auction house, the "FAKE GOLD" side of it is ok; provided in-game gold can be easily obtained.

I understand loot would still fall from creatures and would still be available from in-game merchants; I'm however apprehensive that the rare and good loot wouldn't and I'd be forced to buy from the auction house.

So, to answer your question, yes, I am serious. I don't have a disposable income to be using to buy stupid pretend items in a game where I pretend to be a hero. I want to be absolutely sure that I'd not be forced to use a feature I don't want to, to advance through a game I loved to play growing up.

I did however read through the Auction House blurb on Blizzard's site and have been given a little more insight on how it works.

You can use GOLD with the Auction House. You DO NOT have to use real money.

Ok, lets see if I can help. Apparently you have a lot of questions and are serious.

You don't ever have to use any auction house.
The information should all be on the Diablo 3 web page.

I also didn't complain about the online requirement

That was not directed at you (the online part). Guess I got my quotes messed up.

I understand loot would still fall from creatures and would still be available from in-game merchants; I'm however apprehensive that the rare and good loot wouldn't and I'd be forced to buy from the auction house.
All the loot will be in the game, it will still drop (depending on level of difficulty) like normal.
The RMAH will contain items other player's wish to sell on the RMAH. (and maybe items from the "store)
Acti/blizzard will take $1 on items like armor and such provided they sell.

Otheriwse players can buy/sell on the in game gold auction house.

If you do not wish to take part in that, then don't use the autction houses.

Spoiler for what?
That movie came out in 2008, and what does MP have to do with D3?

There's nothing wrong with being unsure whether a game is right for you or not. Maybe some ppl need to ease up a bit.

Well, OKAY. That SETTLES that.

Directed at me then?
Nothing wrong with someone not liking online only requirements for a single-player aspect to a game. You may not mind, but that doesn't negate the feelings of many who do. If D3 was going to be multiplayer only, with no single-player component, I would not care one whit if it was online all the time. But even Steam let's people play (most) single-player games in an offline mode. I played single-player D1 and D2 all the time. I found it fun. Perhaps you did not, and play games like Diablo purely for the social play, and that's fine. But please don't tell those of us who did/do find playing single-player (solo) fun that not wanting to be online to play ALONE and not wanting it dependent on whether servers are up or down etc. makes us silly whiners.

Edit: gah that last sentence...edited for clarity I hope

You'll just have to pardon my ignorance, as my interest in the game isn't high enough for me to want to research any of this. Therefore, feel free to correct me.

I'm liking it so far, story is fairly intriguing and even though the levels aren't random (I don't think?) they're fairly large. I've also almost died about 10 times now, so normal isn't as easy as I thought. Playing a Barbarian class and tearing things up.

Thank you Titan for answering my questions.

LadyCrimson, I'm with you, I dislike having to be online to play a SP game. But if a game I like requires it I'll deal with it.

Yeah, similar. I'd have to really want the game, however. ;) I played the beta and didn't see anything that made me initially want to jump up and get it...but it was just a beta, small taste of the game. So I'm waiting to see what those friends of mine say first. And maybe some more videos of later stages of the game.

I've actually decided not to buy another Blizzard game again because of it. Canceled my WoW account, even. And yes - it will last. When I'm pissed about something like this, I stick to it. Haven't bought an EA Sports game in years because of stunts they pulled in the early 2000's.

I'll still play the heck out of Lost Vikings, though.

I too am going to wait as well. I'm gonna give it a few weeks before I decide.

Nantucket, I too hate EA and haven't bought any of their games in a while. BF3 was their last chance at redemption for me and they failed.
