Unofficial JRPG Thread VII (formerly the Final Fantasy Threa

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 10:28 pm

this is my first time posting here so hello everyone.

I purchased tales of graces f the other day on ps3. I've heard plenty of good things about the tales series so I have it a shot. This is my first tales game and so far I am enjoying it very much. Some of the dialogue is odd but it isn't bad. The battle system seems like plenty of fun. I guess that's the selling point.

The Tales series has always been pretty great. When I had Vesperia, I could not put that game down no matter how hard I tried (Who am I kidding? I didn't try to stop at all :P). It's the only JRPG I have ever played where grinding never got old, not even once. Amazing combat. It was basically Devil May Cry with a 70+ hour story and 7 playable characters.

I have a PS2, a PC and a DS as gaming machines. As soon as I can get the courage to buy it for the third time I'll most likely buy another Wii.
Radiant Historia for the DS, and if you buy a Wii again then I highly recommend Xenoblade Chronicles :)

Bought it today.
Hope you have fun with it :)

I'm not going to play it until I finish some work and have some more free time, but it's a title I've been wanting to play anyway. If it disappoints, I'll just return it alongside some other games I have and am not going to replay and get something else instead.

Also, I have FF XIII ready and waiting on gf's PS3. Alongside Gran Turismo 5 and the HD releases of Metal Gear but that's for another thread. :P

Though the series often deals with mature themes, the games are really aimed at younger folks. There'll be times where dialogue and characters' actions make little sense or is downright cringeworthy, but the games are enjoyable nonetheless. If you like Graces then I'd also recommend looking into Tales of Vesperia on Xbox 360 if you can. It has a slightly more mature tone, though the combat isn't quite as good as Graces IMO.

New details about the Atelier Meruru limited edition:

http://www.siliconera.com/2012/03/15/atelier-meruru-the-alchemist-of-arland-limited-edition-details-announced/

The price isn't that bad for a limited edition ($65). I've already got Atelier Rorona and Atelier Totori (though I've barely started on them).

That why I also liked X-2, despite the rest of being complete crap. But I will always HATE XIII and that game did it for me. No more FFs.
The job system in X-2 was great loved it. I did however like the rest of the game but it was a strange departure from X it seems more like "girls just want to have fun" that's the theme I got from it anyway.

What was so bad about XIII? I hated how the game was so linear but it had a decent story, I will say its not one of the best ones but it was good. It had one of the series best and most memorable characters, Lighting.

To the post above, the modern Final Fantasies are different yes and they change things but each Final Fantasy game is a different world and its not a continuing series minus X-2 and XIII-2 of course. I detest MMOs wo I am not including XI or XIV.

It came out on the 13th in North America. Europe gets it this summer.

Not surprised you didn't know about it though, Namco Bandai does a horrible job marketing the Tales series, which is why they sell poorly and we only end up getting half of the games at best. :meh:

I will have to look into it. I live these types of games and they are a rare breed thanks.

Having a tough time finding Hyperdimension Neptunia for the right price.

The best I've seen is Gamestop's price for $26.99 (used) but none of the Gamestops around me have it. So I looked it up on Amazon and the best so far is about $38 used.

After I get Hyperdimension Neptunia, Hyperdimension Neptunia mk 2, and Atelier Meruru I will have run out of JRPGs to buy (At least the ones that I know I would enjoy). I might consider getting Tales of Graces F but I've never really found that same enthusiasm for the Tales of series that everyone else seems to have.

I just noticed as well. Has anyone played it yet? Or the PSP port? Or the 1989 original? Or the Japanese PC version from 2005? How is it?

I'm not quite sure how but through the stars aligning in the proper positions and Jupiter being in retrospect or whatever I got a new, yes new, copy of Hyperdimension Neptunia (not mk2) at Gamestop.

Now I just have to wait til next paycheck and I can get Hyperdimension Neptunia mk 2 yay!

Make sure you understand the battle system before you progress too far. I see some frustration voiced from people who say the game is too hard, when it really isn't if you know how to play.

I've never even heard of that series before. I gather that it's a video game parody RPG or something?

I wish my PS3 was backwards compatible. There are so many PS2 titles I didn't get to play... :(

Then see if you can get a PS2 somewhere. There are some really good titles on the PS2. For example, Final Fantasy X :)

The PS2 should still be sold where you are because Sony has not stopped production and has stated they will not until demand for the PS2 completely cease.

It's poking fun at the whole "console war" thing, with characters and locations being based on various consoles and game companies.

Hope it got a gameworld thingy, and isn't a linear rail like FFX, FFXIII and Tales of Graces.
