Unofficial Minecraft Thread 62

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 6:14 am

I have no idea. Maybe because they love Minecraft and they wanted to support it? Which is pretty much what they've been doing since Minecraft was first available.

I don't know the whole story, but it sounds like they sprung this on him rather suddenly during the convention; rather than talking about it before flying there (the sensible thing to do) or when it was all over.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Whatever actually happened, Notch couldn't have handled the situation worse. Tweeting about it? Seriously? Just.. stop talking and do what you do best; Create brilliant games

Notch should hire a PR guy.

He charged like 100 bucks a head to get into MineCon and yet went out of his way to hire volunteers at MineCon, do you think he'd be willing to spend money on ANYTHING that isnt himself personally? Notch really is a manchild. I don't think he's a bad person don't get me wrong, but his whole demeanor about the Beth lawsuit, this drama, and the constant vacations all point to someone who's not very bright as a businessman.

agreed, I mean even the worst PR guy knows not to post this type of [censored] on a public forum, it makes notch look unprofessional and that impacts upon his company as a whole. This entire thing could and should have been sorted out privately between the yogscast and Mojang. Instead the flood gates have opened, a [censored] slinging storm of hazy arguments and miscommunication has occured and minecon wil be remembered for this asinine crap instead of the launch of a brilliant game by a brilliant bunch of people. Also notch is a mult-millionaire for the love of christ, the way he's going on you'd think Mojang were a stuggling indie company barely scraping buy, he doesn't pay a huge force of staff, he's always on holiday, the lucky bastard could afford the yogscast fees about 10 times over and not even dent his income.

Mhm, and I don't watch Yogcast so I don't know much about their mannerisms, but if they handle this like the typical fangroup vs company ordeals, then they'll boycott Minecraft, Minecraft loses some members, and the overly zealous fans will stand in a giant circle around Notch and Mojang with foam at the mouth and blood red eyes ready to attack anyone who even LOOKS at Minecrafts' creators the wrong way. According to a previous post someone made, it's already happened. This is why I dont care about Minecraft beyond this forum. Great game, terrible userbase.

Yogscast have actually handled this very professionally. They didn't say anything except that they would release an official statement when they got back to the UK.

I won't lie, I'm going to roll on the floor laughing if the small fangroup handles this professionally. Why? Because Notch likes to cause drama, despite being the head of a company, and if these guys handle this in a pure business and professional tone, Notch will look like a fool and a failure for this. He could have left the 'unnamed celebrity' bit at that, but no, Notch is like a soap opera tabloid, he just LOOOOOOOOOOOVES soaking up the attention in anyway he can, hence he does all this attention prostitution.

There are at least 8 people working for The Yogscast. I say working because The Yogscast is a company (AFAIK), not just a group of fans.

Ohhh. I thought it was 2 guys and a girl that exchange banter on mics. (Again, never watched or read much about the group so I know very little of them.

I just have one question.

If Notch has enough time to throw tantrums on Twitter, why doesn't he have enough time to... I don't know... ADD MORE MONSTERS TO THE GAME INSTEAD OF RELEASING PRE-RELEASES OF THE SAME CRAP!!

Bleh. Anyways, a question to you guys regarding my Minecraft videos. Do you folks think I should maybe mod the game with some more monsters? The original idea was to play the game vanilla first, get to the credits, then mod the map up. The vanilla game is honestly not that exciting however, since it does not have that many monsters to scare me... what do you guys think? It wouldn't make much of a difference I assume.

Because, as I've said before, Mojang has the professionalism of a group of walnuts. Like Colonel said, Notch is a manchild. He continues to act like a child, having tantrums on twitter when he's upset, spending most of his time doing [censored] all and trying to maintain a facade of "I'm a humble little indie developer arn't I cute". Minecraft hasnt been developed properly, and so its virtually the same as it was in Alpha when I originally bought it. The community develops the game, stuff like the Aether Mod and Technic pack are far beyond anything that Mojang is creatively or technically capable of creating. I'm losing patience with Mojang now due to the continual childishness and refusal to actually develop their bloody game.

Forgive the language, but after this latest nonsense, Notch is a total bastard. Harsh, but true. Responding to legal threats by rallying an army of hokerrs, having tantrums on twitter because someone is more popular than you, spending more than 50% of the year on vacation and acting like a hypocrite (see his stance on piracy), these are not the actions of a mature advlt. I've lost all respect for him now. The money that he made from Minecraft has gone to his head, and a monster has been created, a monster with an army of 13 year olds who obey his every word.

That last part is probably at least partially why Minecraft is in the state it's in now. Notch listens to the part of the fanbase that likes what he's doing, simply because they just don't know any better, and the rest of us, who he probably sees as the minority, are left with an unfinished game.

Well, this whole crapstorm has spawned one good thing. The comments parodying the whole situation in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKC1hJ-WX4U are hilarious. That's quite possibly the first time in a very long time I have genuinely laughed IRL at Youtube comments.
