Robbio, why didn't you join Games city? It is basically free build, right?

I am curious as to why people want to play on a server and spend the whole time underground in silence, miles from any other player. If you don't want to live in a city under a leader, you've basically got single player for that.

It would be possible if people didn't rush for the protection of the server rules everytime someone else does roleplay creatively.

We just don't have the numbers for it.
Server rules basically override any RP rule from what I understand, making the whole thing just...Meh.
Weighing the active users with the inactive, I agree that active numbers are falling short - especially with Skyrim's release and Christmas just passing
But since you can't really force people to choose a side for fear of the other the Indie version of a Bandit should stand until they can be proven a full Bandit via bandit methods.
Its not like Bandits/Indie are going to be in double figures compared to FF and B?. It would work by simply not attacking the first outsider you come across if he has done no harm - whos to say an Indie person could not benefit both sides in multiple ways like trading for Ore/Food/Blocks etc there are plenty of ways to make it work if you ignore numbers.

From what I see - nothing - everyone is probablly in party chat anyway, making any banter pointless.

You are not whitelisted on this server!

Hey guys.

Sorry about those bad image links, I forgot that Bethesda forums dont display images on the page.

And sure, anyone who'd like to join the server can. We recently went from white-list to public so anyone can connect and play. The only problem is the lack of an informative spawn area, you are just dropped into the middle of the town with no direction. When you get on, just ask in global chat if any of the factions are recruiting, they usually are. And if they are not, you're free to start your own and begin claiming land in the wilderness.

bone said he was thinking it over at the moment.

EDIT: @undone we need an extra man, or maybe offer to contribute more so we can get that dedicated server. and no offense bone, i won't be putting any of my money into veelox. we should have fired them after several crashes on day one.

The company that has the shiny server doesnt have any more of them yet which is why we need to go another month. Or shut it down and wait.

Nice to see that Borg is up to old tricks:

They were on the last map.
True but nothing kept people in the city. No jobs, no "quests", no opposing faction, no contest.
Whats the point in staying FF or B? if there is this "peace" nonsense or if our leaders haven't given the civilians daily tasks to fulfill - Surely the treasure needs some stocking of supplies constantly, like plenty of iron.
Where else could a citizen move to if they feel their town isn't the right choice, besides the "bandit" lands? You can't gain access to an opposing town once tarred by your former towns name, come close to a border: "Leave! Get Away! RAWWRRRRR! Fear our petty defenses...!" - Alright I could see a way to RP round this but no one is willing to.
The lack of communication between normal civilians, higher ups and leaders is disappointing since those who aren't higher ups in the community fail to get a Party Chat invite and are left in silence only to see one person forget to /p and then it's back to silence. I wanted /Ignore when Borg was present but now he's gone it now further decreases communications inside and outside factions.

Something like a Gladiator Arena should be set up in order to bring entertainment and contest to the map - like Game's old one. With resources being at risk to make it worth winning - every town member will be called upon to do their part.

Ugh. The whole reason I made that thread was so people could discuss the rules there, not here.

As I recall we had a period of not allowing any discussion of rules here. I think it should go back to that.

What do you mean "no one is willing to?" I've let every single person who has asked become a part of my city so they don't have to go out into the bandit lands and worry about being griefed.

All of the best RPs that we've had have been the ones that sprang up naturally out of general boredom. It's when a strict set of "rules" are applied that things get boring. There's only so much you can do within these rules, and overall Minecraft is a game all about creativity and restricting that creativity does nothing but defeat the point of the game.

What happens when all the building is finished? Wars? Minecraft isn't set up for PvP. What will happen and has happened in the past with these "wars" is that some people take it a little to far, people retaliate, there's a crackdown, people get scared, people get bored, people abandon the "cities" and create new towns to build and RP in. I see nothing wrong with this, it's how the game progresses.

Also, the main reason that I haven't joined any cities is that I have my own little area that I like and I don't really want to move.

So the whitelist may not be completely up to date. My backup was from last week. I added Technius to it because that was the only name I remembered so if you can't get in due to whitelist, let an admin know.

Why did you need to restore backups? What the hell happened to the server to require that?

I meant from a RPing perspective no one puts the effort in to join another town but rather wanders into the "Bandit lands" - Came by yester/day before and was shooed away, alright I'm part of FF but people need to trade, so...

For some reason, the crash deleted the whitelist. I've submitted a ticket.

New rules thread over on the server forum. We should use this thread to keep track of the rules and to propose any and all rule changes, so check it often.

Thank you. This will hopefully help people getting banned for things that were never laid out clearly in the first place. Which has been happening a lot lately.

And now I see there's a third bloody city, started by the same person who wanted the server more unified if IRC. Strange...

I'm not saying that we should all run away from each other and build our own thing miles away, I am saying that to allow the griefing of -any- structure, no matter the status of the player, is ridiculous and somewhat of a hypocritical thing to do. The only exception to this would be if someone constantly harassed towns through the 'bandit' title, such as Borg for example.

"If griefed, bandits cannot grief back." That is pretty much like how the poor administration at schools tend to say, "If someone hits you, don't hit them back." Minus the part where you tell a advlt who will then deal with it.

I am all for the community interacting, but as Simpson has pointed out, wrapping a chain around us is not the way to do it. I think the cities are going very nice for the time being, but there should not be anything wrong with someone choosing to build outside of them.

As long as we maintain the 5k block limit, (maybe even lower it?), then this will not become 'Single-Player with chat." All this bandit rule allows is a chance for people like Borg to do things that intentionally frustrate other players, people that you and I interact with, without having any punishment or retaliation occur from it. It's a terrible loop-hole that needs to be addressed, which I am thankful that Bone is already doing.

Bone, I have no problem with the way you moderate this server, and have been doing so all this time. You have proven to be the most capable, and I do not mean to come off as demanding. Just thought I would throw that in there before anyone says something that would imply differently, as has happened before.

We need some sort of common goal for everybody. Notch is too terrible to provide us with a decent one in vanilla. Something like Simazzarome's hellish rift apocalypse. Maybe something a bit more achievable, I have no idea how they implemeted a nether apocalypse but its not within our capabilities at the moment. Regardless we need some sort of common aim. The cities wouldn't be having petty conflicts, we'd be forming alliance to drive back a greater force. We'd be like the Elves and Men uniting against Mordor. My only thought is that there is nothing remotely threatening about Minecraft for us to unite against.
