Unofficial Minecraft Thread #70

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 10:16 pm

Started a single player world using Technic pack and found a few vacated buildings. There are some chests in them but they are locked so I can't take anything out of them. Any idea how to unlock them?

Question, is this permanent pvp?

Edit: It became full pvp so Im out. I knew it would come out with this. First Red nation Green nation that worked.

What? Minecraft is always PvP. Although actually killing anyone is highly frowned upon unless you have an actual reason.

Anyway, I had an idea. Since we now have a good dedicated server, why don't we add other games to our sever list? Off the top of my head I can think of TF2 and Terraria.

Gotta have Tank do that, I don't have access to the server yet.

So... when will I know when it's been done? Because, right now, I can't even access the server.

Yeah, it was slowly getting laggier and laggier for me and now I can't even connect at all.

Just get him to fill out http://www.gt.nsw.gov.au/information/doc_131_epa_form.pdf and he'll be on his way.

Server is back up. Some plugin or plugins seem to be leaking memory. I've seen server continue to fill up remaining memory and not trash collect. Doesn't happen as fast on this server. Must be one of em that was put on in my absence. Will take a bit to investigate, as 20 minutes staring at log files didn't give me any info other than the server randomly started reporting it was overloaded. This issue is also likely the cause of the last servers' demises. Bad plugins are bad.

Seems to me we had issues with running Spout and mcMMO at the same time.

Well, I was getting errors at the end of the server file from a few different plugins. Can't be sure without real world testing. I'll start with those two, as Spout one of the last plugins writing to the log.

What feature would you guys like to see in the future of Minecraft?

I'd like to see things like snow capped mountains, underwater things (like shunken ships) away to make your own sailing ships, above ground ruins (imagine exploring to find the ruins of a huge castle) an addition of orangish sand, reddish rock, tumbleweeds, so they can make American style deserts and a badlands biome in addition to the already existing desert biome and maybe the addition of basalt and natural formations like the giants causeway.

I really want the adition of Anerican deserts and badlands rock for formations. I love the badlands, it's so pretty in real life.

I would love Jeb forever if he made all the technic pack stuff official.

Imagine how good it would be if Jeb actually took the things and refined it to his level of quality.

Seriously? The only thing Flowerchild did right with BTW is that nothing in it obsoletes anything in the Vanilla game, yet nearly everything included in Technic does. At what point does it stop being Minecraft and start being something else altogether?

I gotta agree with you. Better than Wolves always appealed more to me than Technic, simply because it's that bit more rustic (though more recent changes seem to have muddied the mod) and more in line with the 'flavor' of Minecraft. I don't want to set up machines to automatically mine or build for me... There's plenty of mods out there that elaborate well on Minecraft's concepts - Redpower, for instance, and I don't even like using redstone - but that's like a total conversion. Nothing wrong with it, that's for sure, but I guess I'm more of a traditionalist with my mods. Texture packs, too - I try others and keep going back to vanilla.

To respond to Comrade - I'd slightly decrease the amount of mines and ravines, add rare ruins or sentry posts as you mention, add some of the much-requested block types (marble, red clay/sand, add the darn cocoa plant... At least the apples are already on the changelist), and get on those darn NPC quests and dialogue... Hell, I'll even accept Sims-ish gibberish speak and pointless fetch-quests.

And to Undone/Turns/Whoevermightcare, I've outlined some roads for the north and west parts of Eshara - I think I've laid it out as far as the town could/should possibly extend for awhile. Don't like the alignment, let me know and I'll remove it.

I like things more vanilla, as well. I do use a texture pack, but I use the Faithful x32 pack, which is basically Vanilla Minecraft but at double the resolution. Which isn't much, considering Minecraft.

I always considered the technic stuff to be late game items. Diamond gear and potions are the highest quality kit you can acquire in Vanilla and make leather armour and stone tools obsolete. In just the same way, the items added by Technic make diamond tools and manual labour itself obsolete. Toiling in mines is replaced with tinkering with circuits, which is far more enjoyable in my opinion.

I was thinking earlier about how much the game could benefit if they did a proper implement of a increase in world height. Was playing Assasins Creed Revelations today and thought "How [censored] sweet would it be if Minecraft had ravines the size of this one?"

Half blocks of every building material and have every half block compatible with the others.
It would help out a lot with building details and at the same time not make any drastic changes to the game, like adding 1/4 block, 1/8 block etc.

I agree with you too. I've never been a fan of any of the texture packs I've come across. It just seams to take away the antique feel the game gives me, which I've always enjoyed when playing the game.

Is there any chance of a mod being able to remove some bedrock for me? My arena is finished but the floor is ruined by the occasional bit of bedrock stuck in it that I cannot remove. :(

Blowing up a bunch of TNT in the upper-most level above the bedrock (y=127) makes nice holes in the bedrock below (y=0). Yeah, it's a bug in Bukkit, but a pretty handy one if you need it.

The dynamic map is cool and all, but is there any way to keep yourself from being marked on it? I remember that when we had the dynamic map before that there was. And also that the map made the server extremely unstable.

There are two methods; globally you can disable the "playermarkers" overlay/client component in plugins/dynmap/configuration.txt, for yourself you can use "/dynmap hide" (and "/dynmap show" to re-show yourself), given sufficient privileges (dynmap.hide.self and dynmap.show.self, respectively).

I believe Redpower does that. You can cut most blocks into smaller and smaller pieces.

As an idea BTW is great but as an actual mod it is so outdated. It doesn't work with any other mod.

I'd rather them be completely silent with just text dialog.
