So to play with you guys Technic seems mandatory to get onto the server.
I got it working alright so thats not a problem, just don't like it much, so I'll hang on the Vanilla map since that has projects to do and isn't a blank new map. :)

The server is split. Technic on the new IP, non-Technic on the old IP.

That said, Technic is the oil and gas engineer's wet dream, and I [censored] love it.

Bah, I say we upgrade. If people want to play Minecraft-Minecraft, they can do it just as well, can't they, on a Technic server? Or not?

Oh dear.

It appears that both MCBans and PlanetMinecraft were compromised today. If anyone has an accout with either site, best change passwords to be safe.

i don't really like the idea of using tecnik on the server, for a couple of reasons: i think that once every one has their drills set up and large quantities of materials, there will be very little motivation to do any thing. people would need constant large projects to work on and that probably means building new cities and constant migration. and i think people will split up and scatter across the map so that they don't have to share resources.

the other reason is personal, i don't want to change my files every time i want to play on the server. i know that I dont HAVE to do that, but i will need to do that if i want to keep my sp files vanilla or even just to prevent tecknik pack stuff like rubber trees and oil from spawning on the map.

depending on how much of an inconvienance that is for me i may not come on very often, and will certainly deterr me from getting involved in time consuming projects.

Do what I do, keep a copy of minecraft.exe in a dedicated folder, then create a .bat file in the same folder to launch Minecraft with.

set APPDATA=http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1330349-unofficial-minecraft-thread-70/%cd%minecraft.exe

Repeat this for any vanilla/mod setup you want, and you'll never have to switch bins again.

That's the beauty of the .bat: It makes another in the folder it's in to use.

So, how exactly would I go about downloading Winrar? From looking on their site, they have some 'trialpay' option, where you seem to have to try another trial offer to get it, or pay for it directly. Neither of which I can do at the moment.

Either use http://www.7-zip.org/ or click the Downloads link at the far left side. The top 2 links are for Windows, 32 and 64 bit. Choose which one fits your OS.

mmmm... millenaire and mo creatures. definitly not installing technic now. sorry, i can understand the desire for the industrial and automation type mods but those others would change the server too much that i would not even consider it to really be minecraft any more.

The Tekkit SMP variation does not have those.

Yeah, so apparently, I've died and can't get my [censored] back because APPARENTLY the respawn point is high up in mid-air, so you just spawn > die > spawn > die. :swear:

According to Bone/Skooma/Undone they'll be added soon, and we'll be getting them when they are.

As much as I enjoyed Technic last night, if it's going to split the community then I'd rather not have it at all

Playing with the technic is like how key described it, like playing minecraft for the first time again. It's a chance to be able to learn how to do things once again with pipes and stuff, instead of knowing how to do everything in vanilla minecraft. OK that wasn't really the best way to describe it but you all should at least try it.

The only thing people will lose the motivation for is mining, because its bloody boring and time consuming and I'd rather be building things. This doesn't mean we'll constantly migrate from one town/project to the next. We spent about a week on one canton of Vivec and it wasn't even finished. Cities will take longer to make now too if you want them wired up with the latest technology. My ultimate goal is to build a self-contained, self-sufficient superstructure that can house an entire town's population comfortably. Making it self sufficient alone will be a monumental task, not to mention the quantity of raw materials I'll need.

The only thing you have to split up for is oil. The benefits to sticking together are massive, getting a working quarry takes a long time so people who work together and pool resources will have an easier time getting machinery set up. Do you really expect everybody to split up, build their own quarry, their own oil pumps, solar panels, macerators, electric furnaces, power grids, canning machines, farms and eventually nuclear reactors? Or would they stick together and build one of each a lot faster? Not only that but a lot of this stuff is really complicated, people aren't going to master every new feature, its in their interests to work with other people who might be better at certain things.
The only thing people need to split up for is oil but pipes for moving it long distances aren't particularly difficult to make in sufficient quantities.

Nope, I can't access the Technic Server without having Technic, though I can get onto the Non-Technic Server with and without Technic. So to at least play normal MC on the Technic Server i will need to have Technic installed.
Yeah, so apparently, I've died and can't get my [censored] back because APPARENTLY the respawn point is high up in mid-air, so you just spawn > die > spawn > die. :swear:
Thats where your MySpawn was in that last map
I figured that out and it was the reason I was spawning over 1500+, 1500+ away from everyone else.

A http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/818808-100batcraft-modcollabaration/ I was reading about, looks rather cool would be nice to see some videos of it more updated :)
