Unofficial "Will My PC Run Skyrim" Thread #52 w hard

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 2:55 am

I'd meant to comment again on the "Pentium Dual" in the last iteration of this thread.

I just hope I can at least play on 1920x1080 at maybe medium settings with my Intel Pentium E5200 2.5ghz. without tooo much lag... my XFX 5770 should boost my performance I guess...
Personally, I have a low opinion of Intel's various butchered processors, such as Celerons. The Pentium Duals share cores with the C2D, but have very little of the cache RAM left in them (the equivalent now available with a Sandy Bridge unified graphics addition isn't quite as badly gutted out, but still isn't what I think of as a full-power CPU easily compared with the C2Ds and Phenoms that do have all of the Cache RAM intact. At 2.5 GHz, I consider this one pretty weak sauce.

What do people think of this?

Intel core I3 550 3.2 (2 cores)
Radeon HD 5570 1GB
4GB RAM
Direct X 11
Windows 7 64 bit
As per the opening message in all of these threads, the HD 5570 is a compromise. It's not fully in the Mainline Class of gaming GPUs, it's in the borderline area between business class and gaming class. Only because we are expecting Skyrim to be relatively low-demand for a 2011 (almost 2012) game does it rate Medium.

idk my friends exact specs but I know he has an HP laptop that has an i5 & dual cards an intel for low power consumption & a Hd 5650M....point being would he be able to run Skyrim on medium-high?
No he could not. A Radeon HD 5670 would be different. Plain Medium for this one.

Hmm I hope it's okay to ask things like this here. I have a bit more money than I realized and I'm tempted to get the core components for a new computer. I already have case/HDD/600W PSU/optical. All I'm missing is the motherboard/CPU/and video card.

Are there likely to be better deals than this soon?
Zotac 460 GTX - $120 after rebates
Team Xtreem Dark Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) - $40
ASUS M5A97 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS - $99
AMD FX 4100 4-Core Processor, 3.6 4 Socket AM3 - FD4100WMGUSBX - $110

The upgrade of course would be for Skyrim, and those core components would run the game quite well I think. I hear bad things about that FX 4100 CPU however those articles are always in the context that it costs like $180 and not like $110 as far as I know. Are those a good choice of components for the "about $100 each" price range?

Do not AND I MEAN IT DO NOT, under ANY circumstances BUY AMD Bulldozer series processor, they are made for workstations mostly and have EXTREMELY poor results in video games!!!!!

Google Fx 4100 review or any other Bulldozer processor, to see what I am talking about.

Rather than that buy yourself a nice AMD II Phenom X4 processor in range from 955 model to 970.

Other than that AWFUL processor series, with this rig you should easily play on Ultra settings!

The reviews I read show bulldozer as slightly slower than the processors you listed, which are more expensive. I'll look into it again though. As I said, those reviews were in the context of it costing far more than $110.

Edit:
This is better?

Bulldozer can get as powerful as a i5 2500k if its on the correct motherboard, but it consumes ~5x as much power as a i5 2500k

Not the four core version. It sounds like this is a better deal, I'll look into it more later. Thanks:

I bought my PC 2 days ago, because my old PC died on me, I looked the bulldozers the same way you do, not only that they are more expensive, they are also very very poor in gaming performance.

I payed AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black edition 800kn that is 150$ and FX-4100 is 170$, on this site here is a benchmark.

What do you lot think?

Q6600 at 3.0GHz (my main concern)
8GB DDR2 RAM
560 Ti 2GB
Note: I game at 1080p

I have seen from the first post my card isn't very highly rated. :(

What can I expect from this?

Ans could I expect a FPS constantly around 60?

Your card is enough for high settings, maybe something on ultra. The Q6600 is a fine quad core CPU. Not the newest model but still its quad core. The game will run great. Would say around High settings. Constant frames will depend how well you manage the video settings. Dont go over the top if your rig cant handle it. Throttle something down and fidle around and you will get your constant 60FPS.

Probably high-ultra with 60fps. The card is excellent. CPU is aged, but still a good last-gen quad core.

*edit* lol @ the guy saying the 560ti is the best of the 5 series

Lol sry facepalming myself. I had a group in my mind of a comparison between a 550Ti 560 and 560Ti, and within this group the 560Ti wins. Mixed up some things in my head. As if a 560Ti is as powerful as an 580 or 590 XD My bad.

AMD Phenom 9150e Quad-Core Processor 1.8GHz

4.00 GB Ram

Windows Vista 64-bit

ATI Radeon 5770

My screen resolution is 1400x900

I'm a pretty tolerant person, so I don't need max. However, would this PC at least let me play the game at a good fps and have it look good at the same time?
Also, can someone tell me how good(or bad) my CPU is? The 1.8Ghz thing is a lot slower than what I've been seeing in the CPUs of others around here lately, and kinda has me nervous.

Depends on the i5...

Most likely you're looking at medium-high settings with *okay* fps.

Medium-high settings with a good framerate I'd say. Your CPU is pretty old. Performance-wise its a little worse than a Core 2 Duo E8400, which is a dual core. But at that resolution I don't think you'll have any major problems getting good performance out of the game. Your graphics card is pretty decent.

Max is iffy, high for sure. Try for max settings, if the framerate is too low then take it down a notch.

No. Medium.

Thanks for the responses, I don't think my buddy will get it for PC then. He's too worried about it not running right & see's little point if he can't run it on higher setting than consoles. I can agree with that bc he had a hell of a time getting Rift to run smoothly. I finally came over & rolled back his drivers. I'm going PC & xbox 360! I know I'll run it fine 6870 & 1090t!

Intel i5-2500 3.3ghz
8gb ddr3
Microsoft Windows 7 64
GTX 560 Ti

I'm assuming I can run it at max but might as well make sure.

According to the available information, Medium on a PC will in fact be well above the image quality of a console.

I've been told every range from low to high, so I'm a bit confused. Here's my set up:

Intel T9900 Core 2 Duo @ 3.06 GHZ
Geforce GTX 260m 1 GB
4 Gigs of Ram
Windows 7

Hm difficult to say. The card isnt that bad. But the CPU isnt the best. Phu would say around middle. In my opinion the impact of the CPU is greater than the impact of a GPU so around middle is the most accurate I can say. But yeah remeber Low = Console Graphics no need to worry about it.

Edit: Yeah your card has the same power as a 9800GT so the card is in the Mid/High predictions but yeah what bothers me is the dual core wich is in the min. specs. So I will stay cautious and remain: Around the middle means, some effects up some down.
