1.8 UpdateDragonborn DLC discussion thread #45

Post » Tue Nov 06, 2012 3:05 pm

I hate the main quest because the random dragon attacks kill off my NPCs, I avoid it every game. I've managed over 200 hours on my main without doing it.
Spoiler
In Dawnguard when I spoke to the dragon he said he just had an instinct to call me a Dovah, that some day it would become clear to us both. Or something along those lines, I thought it was cool that they took into consideration folks who don't do the main story and I'm hoping this DLC will do the same.

In the last 100 hours or so of gameplay, the only people that I've lost are nameless guards. And that's only because I was on my level 81 character and kept fast travelling in and out of Soltitude to try and get a legendary dragon to spawn inside the city. I succeeded. It was fun. :P

Also, surprised to see no Dunmer in the trailer.

Watch carefully there is an entire dunmer village at 0:28 - 0:29 . Redoran bug houses and hlallu box style houses!!

"You thought you were the only one (referring to being Dragonborn)" I'm pretty sure you at least have to realize you are dragonborn.
I always thought and read (Or at least interpreted ES lore) that Alessia was the first Dragonborn, of the first Cryodiilic Empire. Dragon Speech was an old gift dating well back before even Ysgramor arrived from Atmora (For the first or second time), but the "Dragonborn", was the name given to those blessed by the covenant of Akatosh, that Sealed the gates of Oblivion. Without the aid of their Daedric allies, the Aylieds were relatively easy pickings for the rebelling Humans, lead by Alessia, with special guest appearance by Pelinel Whitestrake.

It also makes me wonder how often (if ever) two of the Dragonborn happen to be in the same era.. the narrator says he wants to return though so does that mean he's been dead for a long time, or maybe he was just imprisoned? The Book of the Dragonborn mentions a difference as well between an Emperor, his heirs and an actual Thu'um using Dragonborn but I don't remember the exact wording it used.

One time I just spawned 50 Alduins in Solitude.
It was... interesting to behold.

On my first character I played the main story first, all the way and I lost shopkeepers, stable boys, entire Khajiit caravans, the list was staggering. Now I avoid it, sure dragons were fun for a while but now they're just giant cliff racers in my eyes. I do fast-travel a lot now but I've also put in over 2k hours of gameplay, I've wondered everywhere and encountered every encounter, not fast-traveling is incredibly boring.

Maybe this DLC will implement a way to wipe out the dragons, if they do then I'll be more inclined to fire up the main quest.

Really? Seeing the speculation going crazy here... there are many creative posts and answers.
Maybe you had just bad luck and were overlooked ore something.

Yeah, it's a pretty active topic to say the least. And there are different readers each time a day and on different days. It's no wonder if an old find dies and then resurfaces, or some comments don't get read much at all, or stuff, I know. Sorry if I seemed a bit childish there.

It's just that, people really seem to like correcting others to feel good themselves, or something. I didn't mean this topic, but internet forum posting in general. "Dude, you're WRONG, lol!" on erroneous posts is much more frequent than "What great arguments you had there; let me add..." things on good posts, that's basically what I meant.

EDIT: Interesting on "the village" now what I actually saw those were the Dunmer there... There are Redoran and Hlaalu aspects, true, but the walls really look like an Imperial Fort's (Frostmoth, or what's left of it?)...

By the way, DeanG, I like your quote in SpaceMarines sig. Told it to a friend today.

On topic, god, I'm excited. Going to be a long month, and Im one of the lucky one. Is it bad that I feel glad and guilty to be an xbox player?

Even if you fast travel, there are ways around it. Don't fast travel directly to the settlement, but somewhere nearby for example.

Unfortunately I can't do that, console and all, but that sounds like fun. :D

I suppose you're right, I guess if this DLC forces you to start the main quest I'll just use the restoration loop exploit to make a bow of dragon slaying that's so strong I can one-hit them out of the sky before they can attack my precious NPCs.

How do you deal with vampire attacks? Those are more danger than dragons for me.

I expect it'll be similar to how Tribunal handled Morrowind's main quest.

This new Dragonborn's (I believe it may be Miraak, though I could be wrong) soul would make a hefty jackpot I imagine... Hmmm... If he happens to be a very power hungry type, perhaps we might be having a nemesis who is after our Dragonborn's soul?

I sided with the vampires, I get the occasional Dawnguard attack and they generally aren't hostile towards anyone but me. Every now and again an NPC with a high disposition to me might try to help fend them off but they're no match. Certainly better than having every NPC in town throw themselves in the line of fire.

It's Raven Rock. It had a wall back in Bloodmoon.

I can even spot some of the old colonial buildings between the Dunmer stuff.

So I'm kind of more hyped for this then I was Skyrim. Probably because of the huge Morrowind influences.

Who knows who the narrator is? Awesome voice, gives me the goosebumps.
He sounds to me like the same voice actor from the original Skyrim trailer, can't remember his name.

Plug in a USB keyboard and press the tilde key (the one above TAB) see if it opens the console
In 360/controlmap.txt it's mapped there, but I don't know if keyboard entry is hooked in anything other than platform ID's of 0 or 1 (PC/PC with Controller)

Didn't you get your werewolf fix with DG? Have zero interest in more beast transformations.
no are you kidding me there were only perks and they just basically svck . vampires are better than werewolves in skyrim. I am tired of all this dragon stuff.

It is quite a possibility. The strange walls half wooden half rock track my attention too. But if we take in account how the Dunmer take care of their walls, it is no surprise they let them ruin apart. But well, that is one of the villages. At 0:25 also there is a telvanni little set of houses, growed from plants.

We've all obviously got self-esteem issues and we make people feel bad to make ourselves feel better. Don't take that away!

Yes! I think for frosmoth may be in ruins. Or perhaps is a military stronghold not a village. But it is VERY probable to it to be raven rock. Also it justifies the wooden walls.

Is Wooley disappointed that the DLC may have some kind of "alien" feel to it? Considering the Telvanni buildings and such?
