1.8 UpdateDragonborn DLC discussion thread #45

Post » Tue Nov 06, 2012 4:33 pm

On my first character I played the main story first, all the way and I lost shopkeepers, stable boys, entire Khajiit caravans, the list was staggering. Now I avoid it, sure dragons were fun for a while but now they're just giant cliff racers in my eyes. I do fast-travel a lot now but I've also put in over 2k hours of gameplay, I've wondered everywhere and encountered every encounter, not fast-traveling is incredibly boring.

Maybe this DLC will implement a way to wipe out the dragons, if they do then I'll be more inclined to fire up the main quest.

Pretty sure the Khajiit Caravans are immune to non-player-induced Death. I've seen the entire Caravan get Giant'd only to be camping out at Whiterun a day later.

The Caravans can, however, develop pathing conflicts and become stuck, or even take on odd routins. Ri'Saad began heading to Windhelm (Not his usual route), which left his companions running between Markarth and Whiterun without Ri'saad himself. A very odd bug that Self-corrected in about 30 game days.

Plug in a USB keyboard and press the tilde key (the one above TAB) see if it opens the console
In 360/controlmap.txt it's mapped there, but I don't know if keyboard entry is hooked in anything other than platform ID's of 0 or 1 (PC/PC with Controller)

I can't imagine that working, as it'd be a pretty big oversight on Bethesda's part, but I'm going to try it anyway. lol

If you have a modified xbox, I dare say you could repack the update bsa with a modified control map to enable it. I'm going to try this on my PS3 when I get it working again :)

I play the main story with just about every character, with one just enough to get the Unrelenting Force shout, but I've never had that problem. I mean they do sometimes spawn in the city, but that is rare for me... usually I get attacked while traveling. Then again I don't fast travel as much anymore plus I like fighting the dragons, can be challenging. I don't know maybe every experience is different.

I sided with the vampires, I get the occasional Dawnguard attack and they generally aren't hostile towards anyone but me. Every now and again an NPC with a high disposition to me might try to help fend them off but they're no match. Certainly better than having every NPC in town throw themselves in the line of fire.

Non-guard NPCS really need to be given a higher Flee rating. All Dragons and Vampires should induce a flee in any NPC without "Foolhardy" confidence.

Personally, I find the Vampire Attacks much worse for Settlements than Dragon Attacks. If a Dragon does attack a town, usually I can hold his attention with Ward spells. Honestly, I'm loathe to admit it, but a part of me really does like the NPC's being idiots and trying to fight the Legendary Dragon, because when things work, you get this awesome, unscripted event unique to you, where you truly are the town hero, using a wall of magic to protect the civilians from the Dragon's breath.

No dice. Don't really feel like modding this one to do it, but it was worth a try.

I enjoy the challenge, I really do love the dragons as creatures, I just can't stand when every blacksmith, merchant, bard and their mommas think that rushing a legendary dragon with an iron dagger is going to result in anything other than their immediate doom. If you're not a guard, you should be scripted to FLEE when you see a dragon.
:stare:

I'll probably still get this DLC even if they shoehorn you into the main quest by force but I won't like it.

Yea, I can't do the vamps, and my rate of spawning them is on the higher end. Along with dragons, but I managed. Cause I'm a nut at doing all possible quests.

Miraak Temple, probably.
The architecture looks exactly like Apocrypha.
It's most likely no arena.

Another thing I find really cool about the trailer is the armor on the player at :50.. I wouldn't mind having that armor on my character :woot:.

Depending on how many mods you have, it may or may not be too much of a pain to reinstall all of it.

Impossible. Arenas would be larger & spacious in their centers, without anything obstructing the battleground.

Yeah, it also has a huge monolith in the center which would be weird for an arena.

I'm surprised to see the DLC at $20, though.

From what I have heard, that would be Miraak's temple, but it appears to be under construction in the trailer.

As usual, Mardoxx has you covered in one of his forum threads.

I'm thinking (and someone has probably already mentioned it) that the nice old man in the trailer might be the Storn mentioned in the code found in 1.8.

It's an ambitious thought, but no, that is not an arena. I would thoroughly enjoy an arena DLC, though. Perhaps someone should write a strongly-worded letter to Bethesda?

Sounds more reasonable than the theory it's the same guy as in Bloodmoon.

Pondering about Miiraak 'portal'. It could be that the guy is Miraak, and the temple is Miiraak 'portal' to the Apocrypha. Our unfortunately-canon-like-male-Nord-with-a-helmet Dovahkiin seems to be in a temple anyway when he touches that book and when the tentacles / green substance appear. Maybe there have been typos all along, or maybe it's just some other (random or not) variation.

And okay, Raven Rock it is, the village. Yes, it is more Raven-Rocky than Fort-Frostmoth-y. :) And Raven Rock was already confirmed as a location, unlike Frostmoth, IIRC.

And my view on 0:36 is also that it's an arena. Looks so Colosseum-like. Although I know that Windhelm was supposed to have arena already. Perhaps we'll yet get it anyway, be that thing on the trailer arena or not?

Yup. How about an enchanted "Dragon Priest Armor"? :P And is it just me or does the head slot thing look more like a Daedric helm/mask than anything Dragon Priest related?
