so you think the publishers will stop shipping games to retailers ?
well i suppose they could always go to car boot sales to sell the games
again...he who sells first gets the profits,if profits are down then the games going over the counter.
I've worked at numerous CD / DVD / Game stores, and shops that break street date are punished by the publisher by delayed releases in the future.
Release dates are a very serious thing in the industry, and it actually has little to do with piracy, and more to do with giving smaller shops an equal chance to compete with the big retailers by being able to sell the same merchandise at the same time. That's why CD, DVD, and game releases are -typically- on Tuesdays (though as in the case of Skyrim, they sometimes release on Fridays as well) - it was the industry decided upon day for releases. If retailers were able to sell it whenever, then the mom and pop spots wouldn't be able to compete with the major retailers who get the product weeks in advance.
Yes, working in these types of stores, our stores have sat on product for up to a month sometimes before we can sell it. It is not an "arbitrary" release date, and I'm sure these individual locations will hear from Bethesda.
