Weapons, Mods and Ammo Mega-Thread #11

Did you used the Red Ryder BB gun in FO3 besides form the start, when you are obligated to use it for pratice? Me neither, also, I don't think much of the people used it. The point of all this is that there is no need of modding it, no one would spend an expensive (maybe not, but still) gun mod in a BB gun rather then in a Varmint Rifle for exemple.

Did you even read what he poste?

BB Sniper Gun. silent and hilariously effective.

Oh, of course, put a scope in a Red Ryder BB gun and you get a high-precision rifle that can kill a man.

I'm all for darts in a BB gun, that'd make it an extremely effective weapon, but the BB Gun buy its self.... It's barely good enough to kill Radroaches.
The .22 is much more effective than a BB gun. Only a shot to the head would knock someone out, and thats just if they aren't wearing any headgear.
And doesn't Hop-Up just put backspin on the BB? It's not going to double the FPS. The http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Ryder_BB_Gun only shoots 350fps.

Maybe Hop up isn't the right word to use, the term hop-up refers to the extended range you get while using it, hence hopping up the range/impact.
I'm thinking of more a high pressure system, a system that compresses the air more when you pump up the gun, allowing the BBs to be fired at very high velocities.

I don't see how anyone could find the death of a great President humorous. You have a sick, twisted sense of humor.

In that case, maybe it will work. How about a total CO2 cartridge conversion mod?
I have a CO2 Pellet Gun that I shoot for target practice, I've killed a couple squirrels with it but haven't found anything better to shoot, I wouldn't doubt that it would kill a human if it hits in the right spot.

I used my BB Gun to kill a Behemoth. Just to be able to say that I did. They're kind of fun to use every once in a while, and they're pretty useful early on when you want to get the enemy to go somewhere while you're sneaking (they'll follow the noise of the BB hitting the wall but not where it came from).

Molerats, Dogs, Nighstalkers, Bloatflys, Cazadors, Little Geckos, Giant Ants, Radscorpions, Coyotes, and perhaps a Bighorner.

And yes, I read it, i was using the argument I know to prove my point that has been the same from the start, that, besides making it able to poison someone, a BB gun mod is useless. A scope or a extended magazine for exemple, the first one would be useless as the weapon is not precise enought for long range use and the second is just pointless, why would you want a extended magazine on something that fires about 45 bullets per/min and is able to hold 50 bullets?

Everyone dies. Sometimes it's untimely. Even presidents. Even great ones. To cope with our own mortality, some of us make light of it. It's called gallows humor. Deal with it.

Yes, that is the point. Why do you need a BB gun? You don't. Why use it over anything else? Because.

Why even have lower tier weapons in the game? Why not just put the strongest ones in? The answer is variety. You might use a lower tier weapon over a higher one because you like it more.

Me, If I could mod my BB gun into a poisonous high powered killing machine, I would do so.

ALSO, you'd be surprised how accurate high quality air rifles can be compared to their smokeless powder counterparts.

I don't think so, bloatflys maybe but we don't even know what can a Nightstalker do, or a Bighorner, they both looks like strong opponents. I don't think a BB gun would kill one of those "Hard-headed" bighorners...

Look, if an Air rifle with sufficient power can kill a buffalo in two shots, it can kill a man in one and a big horner in three.

Stop bringing up the buffalo thing, we are talking about a Red Ryder here.

I'd say at least the equivalent of a buffalo, which can be killed by a high-power air rifle.

Dude, as the other guy already stated, we are talking about the Red Ryder BB gun not a high-powered airgun, we are talking about the gun which Fallout uses to make reference to the "A Christmas Story". You know? The one that used to be sold as a toy?

Stop suffering from functional fixedness.

Again, you can make a junk throwing machine out of a vacuum cleaner and leaf blower that kills people. You can make a flaming sword out of motorcycle parts and a lawnmower blade. Originally in the game you could make a freeze ray out of air conditioning parts.

It's trivial then to mod your "tame" Red Ryder BB gun to be as powerful as a high-FPS hunting air rifle.

It's not much more than that.

Whatever floats your guys boat, it's not like it'll make it into the game at this point, though it would be pretty funny to go on a killing spree with a BB gun.
*runs in to raiders*
Raider:Look, fresh meat.
*pulls out bb gun*
Raider: *laughs* Awww, Look at that wee little thang'"

Do you really think the developers would include a mod that makes the BB gun a lethal weapon? From the start of the franchise, the weapon was meant to be a pop-culture reference to an old 80's movie, nothing more than that.

Yes, I do. Because it's the sort of thing a desperate wastelander would do. And its modability doesn't take away from its status as a pop reference.

If anything, they could put "You'll take your eye out, kid" on the description for the high-power mod.

What, a desperate watelander could turn the BB gun into a lethal weapon? First, he wouldn't be desperate if he knew how to turn his toy into a high-power weapon. He would have done it form the start instead of waiting until getting to a critical point. And dude, belive me, the BB gun will most likely be a no-mod, weak weapon, if it ever comes to appear in the New Vegas.

I think we won, Protectron, *presents Metro Ticket*.
@oddii Of course it does, every gun can have 3 mods, and that makes it functional so why wouldnt they? There is no reason not to, and it fits.

There wasn't any confirmation that every weapon has 3 mods, it has been confirmed that every weapon has a max. of 3 mods. That means the GECK won't alow you to put anymore mods into them and the gun with more mods in the game will have the max. of 3 mods. And what did you won? It's not like this is a competition or something and someone had setup the teams. I'm just trying to prove my point from the start that is: the BB gun is useless (or not...) in Fallout and there will be most probably be no mod because of the simple reason that was already explained.
