Well, it happened. How do you feel about Elder Scrolls onlin

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 10:54 am

How do I feel?

Well, I feel there's only one way to make this really good. And if it works, it could be something of a wonderful experience.

But that is overshadowed by the fact that there are infinitesimal ways to muck this up.
This is walking fractured ice over a pit of battery acid for me. One false step and this whole thing will be awful.

We shall see.

I hope too D: I mean i was hoping for them to make DLCs in skyrim wich allows us to go to a part of another province but now... with elder scrolls online :( Dont see that happen... hope it never affects skyrim and upcoming TES games.

Indeed. And what I fear is that they'll necessarily have less time to develop each province's lore if they make a TESO in the whole Tamriel, and that it could "lock" too much of the possible lore for the remaining province, and limit the possibilities for the future main, single player games. Wait and see, I have as much curiosity as I have fears.

Edit : Moreover, I fear that their three main factions (and the number of factions tend to be forced to be limited in MMOs) would reduce the political and social complexity of Tamriel. I also fear that main factions in MMOs could be too monolithic, and not take into account internal dissensions and rivalries. My biggest fear is that the MMOs structure and gameplay couldn't account for the complexity of Tamriel. But again, this is TES, and I've already been amazed. If anyone can change my mind about MMOs, then I'd bet it'd be TES.

I definitely won't be playing this. I had enough of the MMO scene during my 3 year stint playing WoW after it first came out. It was my first and only MMO and I'm not going to do that again. It's much too time consuming and all the good items are totally dependant on groups that you have to be tied to. Besides that the entire structure of MMO worlds is completely static and that becomes extremely boring in the long run. The only thing that kept me playing WoW for so long was the people I met there. We had a good group and it was fun hanging out with them. Other than that the game itself became very blah. I don't see how they can do much more considering the way MMO's have to work in order for everyone to do all the same quests. But I wish them luck and hope the people that do play it have a good time.

if it's free i can see it being a success but if its a monthly paying game similar to how everquest 2 used to be like i think it will fail. personally i don't like it, whats the point y'know? why not just make another game in a different province, it doesn't make any sense to me.

I am happy for those people that wanted TES to be multiplayer, but I think this will ruin the singleplayer Elder Scrolls games, like I think now we will not get to go to all the provinces because this MMO takes place over the whole continent of Tamriel. I also am confused as to how this will work as far as skills, and everything so we will see, but I believe this will be a disaster more than anything else.

I'd much rather they do an MMO, a see if it can stand on it's own... than say tacking multiplayer onto my single player game like every other developer wants to do nowadays. With the amount of people who want online, you should have seen this coming, & at least there not effecting those who want to keep there games single player.

I couldn't be happier. TES is my favourite fantasy franchise, and it deserves as many games as possible.

I've been playing skyrim, not even focused on the forum or TES news... then bam! I get online finally and we have an mmo announced. Gotta read up a bit, but my initial thought is "awesome!"

I am happy that Zenimax Online Studioes is behind it, so the time they have and will spend developing it will not take development time away from the regular TES games by Bethesda.
I have never played an MMO even once, I might try it out once we get new info/gameplay footage. One thing that I hope is that the artistic direction is not like WoW, and I am curious on how true to the lore they have kept it.

Not interested. At all.

It's not just that I object to subscription gaming, it's more that MMO gaming tends to be pretty bland. TES has always maintained that the MMO angle would not be the best place to allow for the giant scope of its stories and worlds. And I've always agreed.

This seems like a poor choice.

I'd much rather time was spent on developing further content for Skyrim or TES VI.

Like others have said not made by Bethesda so doesn't bother me. Maybe they will also be able to fully utilise the pcs capabilities. Especially if they have worked on it for 8 years. I hope they do a good job though. I don't want the ES trademark tarnished by a lackluster game.

I feel... cheated. Like, I don't know... I don't want to see a cheap rip off of the REAL gamesas Elder scrolls... like... I don't want to see black marsh right yet, I want Todd's group to do it with the amazing juice, not this...because now I feel pressured to buy it. I also like MMO's but honestly, when there's other people around in that world it kinda ruins it for me.. Am I in shock right now or am I just not excited??? AND IT'S NOT MADE BY BETHESDA'S TODD HWOARD.... WHHHHAAATT THHHEEEE FFF---

Bethesda is spending more time on the elder scrolls. Its zenimax and other game designers that actually have mmo experience that are doing this. Bethesda will probably have some influence but as far as I can see Bethesda is just sticking to their stuff

The only thing about this announcement that has upset me is we get more info about a game coming out next year than a DLC pack coming out in a month or two. WTH Bethesda? :stare:

Neutral to positive. Could be amazing, could be bad. We have no way of knowing yet. One thing I know for sure is that I will be playing it.

Waiting impatiently for more info about gameplay, until we see how it plays I'll reserve judgement.

The 3 Faction concept and the whole of tamriel has my attention though, very much so.

Wouldn't be the first TES spin-off and I guess having Morrowind in a not destroyed mode would be nice. But on a whole I like TES better when it's single-player.

I kind of want to cry. It doesn't fit with what I think of as The Elder Scrolls at all! I have hated this idea for a long time, but felt secure that it wouldn't ever happen. But it did...

I really didn't want this, I personally feel a MMO will destroy the franchise...

My biggest fear as well and I hope to God I'm wrong.

Dont worry TESO is set 1000 years before skyrim, purely based on lore, spoilers averted
