Well, it happened. How do you feel about Elder Scrolls onlin

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 9:59 am

Personally? I am kind of disappointed. However I am excited for new lore or reaffirmation and expansion of old lore rather. But I wonder what this will do in terms of spoiling the new provinces. There are some things in the lore that better be there. Like walking tree cities in Valenwood, the Ghost fence in Vvardenfell etc etc. The weird stuff from the lore better be in the game is all I'm saying.

How does the Elder Scrolls online make you feel?

Love it, since it looks like they will transfer the single player epicness experience to the online format

I kind of hope it will be something really cool and unique. I don't even play MMOs but I might if this looks good and is free to play. However my main concern is that there won't be enough attention given to the lore and the weirder parts of the series.

Cautiously optimistic. Generally positive. I've maintained that an MMO is a great way to explore themes, features, and places that a singleplayer game can't. New lore is also great.

Absolutely dreading the flood of "its an mmo it automatically svcks" posts that will inevitably come. Gstaff, Nick, and the moderators don't get paid enough.

Will be interesting to see what we get.
I don't like MMO's, but as long as Bethesda works on their Single Player TES and Zenimax Online, I don't see a reason to complain.

 ^This. But I really hope they put all the themes and features that are supposed to be in the lore.

Yep, as the OP, I am highly skeptical about TES Online, as I don't like MMO's. But Bethesda must be praised for it never refuses to take risk and make their license evolve. I'll wait and see. If one game series is able to change my mind about MMOs, it must be TES.

I don't know what to think. I don't do MMOs but this line intrigued me.

"An in-depth look at everything from solo questing to public dungeons awaits in our enormous June cover story..."

Solo-questing?

I play TES for the single-player experience.

Exactly, one of the only things I really fear is that they'd drop their work on single-player games, which I hope will never happen. Otherwise, I am really curious to learn more.

Unfortunately, I have an extensive 'life' and won't be able to take advantage of this sort of experience - I know me, I'd get way too involved :)
But a cool thing nonetheless, as long as they keep a reasonable amount of focus on single player experiences as well.

The good thing is its being developed by Zenimax Online Studios and not Bethesda Game Studios. The negative is lore. There will be a lot of fans of TES that wont get to play this game, thus they will miss out on Lore.

I've never understood why people hate MMOs so much, it's not like you're being forced to play one.

I am sceptical, I think it would take a lot to make this good, especially if they go with the classic MMO formula, with hotkeys for different abilities and such, it will not fit well with the TES feel. And I hope they will avoid the horrible grind-quests that you find and such.

But if they manage to pull it off then I think it's going to be great.
I also hope that it will be free to play, but I doubt that it will.

I was under the impression that the HeroEngine was considered quite good. SWTOR uses it and that game looks gorgeous and runs smoothly (AFAIK)

Well, here's my tumblr in which I put up my thoughts:

http://jeroic9.tumblr.com/

And here's my response when I was said to be "harsh":

"I don't think it's harsh. Remember FF14? **** no you don't it was up for a month and went down. I don't even pay for xbox live gold for halo or ME3 multiplayer because I shouldn't have to pay an additional fee to use a basic function of the game, and that's what I think here. So unless it's free-to-play with microtransactions, and I'l bet it isn't, the game is already by definition cheating people and not worth it."

My thoughts are, if it's pay montly, then yes it does automatically svck in relation to its monetary cost. If it has a non-monthly payment model, then it might not.

I'm not quite sure about it either. TES has always been a single-player game to me, and sharing my experiences with others here on the forums is enough for me. I don't like MMOs for a reason- I don't enjoy competition with others.

Not sure if I'll be playing or not.

Edit:
And I hope they will avoid the horrible grind-quests that you find and such.

Another reason I'm worried. TES games shouldn't be about grinding skills and powergaming.

I'll probably give it a go for sure. At least give it a month. I wanna see what this'll be like. Since it's Zenimax Online and not Beth Game Studios, it's not like they're diverting resources away from any of their projects. I wish Zeni luck in designing this game.

Sounds like a horrible waste of time for Bethesda.
