I believe the elderscrollsonline.com domain was registered in 2007.

Yep, 2007-06-12
Yeah, Zenimax Online Studios opened their doors back in 2007 too.

Cautiously optimistic. I hope it's worthy of the TES name and franchise.

Incoming generic mmo. Death of the series ect. Yadda yadda. No series that has gone into mmo form has ever gone back. Well we've all had some fun with the series, but it's best we move on now.

I really didn't want this, I personally feel a MMO will destroy the franchise... Well I guess it's out of my power now, I'll just have to hope it's good. I seriously doubt it after the recent few MMO's that been released, but Beth usually surprise me...

So it's likely been in production since at least that date?

My main concern is that the game is suppossed to cover the whole of Tamriel according to what I read on UESP and I'm concerned at how shallow the game will be overall if the dev time is relatively short compared to other TES games given they have 9 provinces to do instead of the usual one. I know the focus will be on multiplayer rather than the single player experience but it is a concern I have and I gather many others will have to

I will reserve judgement however.

Except it's usually the same company doing the MMO, not an entirely different one. There's nothing to worry about. Bethesda expressed many times that singleplayer games are their passion. That won't change.

Fairly certain Final Fantasy is still alive, even after two MMOs, with one of them being a complete failure.

im just worried about a few things. will they go with the traditional classes, or the skyrim way of you choose what you are based on what you do?
and the factions. guilds, armies. how will that work? or will they have these things at all....which are an elder scrolls staple since daggerfall.

Main concern is how they are going to handle the gameplay, because if unmodded Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim are any indication, it'd be an astronomically unbalanced easily exploitable mess.

I don't know what to think. I don't do MMOs but this line intrigued me.

"An in-depth look at everything from solo questing to public dungeons awaits in our enormous June cover story..."

Solo-questing?

I play TES for the single-player experience.

:tes:

Well yea, you can do solo questing in all MMOs. You just need a group for certain quests, especially if they are in a dungeon. Most MMO dungeons are filled with elite monsters, which can only be killed with a group of various classes (Warriors to take and hold aggro and because they have more defense, mages for buffs and debuffs and damage, Archers for damage and debuffs, Rogues for DPS damage to take down a boss quickly and of course healers. So, yea, I guess the classes would fit into the MMO world.

The world would probably be cool to explore. I just hope it's not just another MMO, with FEDEX quests, elitist raid groups and boring dungeons that take 8 hours to clear. I also hope that elite gear won't be just available from Raid bosses, dungeon bosses and/or through PVP tokens, because I don't enjoy any of that crap!

The best part about MMOs is the community, the people you meet and the fun you have playing with friends.

Wishes/Hopes

- TES combat retained. No, scratch that, TES combat enhanced with DarkMessiah combat (if you played it, you know its superior). PLEASE NO HOTKEY/AUTO ATTACK.
- TES "class" system retained. No "preset" classes only. That would help ruin the whole TES thing.
- TES open world (I understand if Skyrim and Elsywere have their own instance server and load screen, but not within each). How come new MMO's are all instanced and sharded even in large open world zones (tor/gw), when the 10 year old WoW doesn't even need to do that?

I′m not a big fan of this but I do see a way it could get me interested along with the other fans that are only interested in exploration/single experience.

Maybe it could be phased...meaning you could go whenever you desired and do the quests you want without seeing a single soul....but in any case you could make a party with your friends and quest/explore with them since they would be phased to you. Obviously since this is a MMO there would be dungeons only completable by groups and PVP with dozens of people in specific zones. For social stuff maybe there could be a couple cities that were non phased where everyone could see each other.

This way it caters to the MMO fans with the dungeons/PVP/ cities social interaction but it also would please to the other spectrum only interested in TES for single experience.

The hotkey combat and grindy quests don′t bug me...TES always had clunky combat and boring/forgetable (for the most part...there are some quests and chars i love tho) quests and characters so it wouldn′t be so diferent from the alreadt existing TES games.

What about Skyrim DLC, it may possible that it will story wise lead into the story for the MMO. I hope not, but one of the realms I was hoping for was that of Molag Bal in an expansion but I suppose unless the story carries on Bethesda will do something different that what Zenimax Online are doing

Cautiously optimistic. Generally positive. I've maintained that an MMO is a great way to explore themes, features, and places that a singleplayer game can't. New lore is also great.

Absolutely dreading the flood of "its an mmo it automatically svcks" posts that will inevitably come. Gstaff, Nick, and the moderators don't get paid enough.

This. I'm really interested in seeing where this goes. I'm hoping the gameplay is more like the TES games thus far over WoW type combat though.

If a MMO is done right it can be a huge sucess. But if it fails most likely will kill the franchise and since i'm a pessimist when it comes to a SP game going MMO, i say it will fail.

You mean Final Fantasy XII? That was a fine Final Fantasy game. And mind you, there's only been three Final Fantasy games in the past six years, one of them being the failed MMO.
