What are your requirements for dating someone?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 4:23 am

Assuming youre already interested in them and all that, have you got any other must-haves? Like, they got to have a job, you won't date someone who has kids...stuff like that.

Virginity. (more of a strong preference than an absolute requirement I guess)

If someone has kids already, that's pretty much a no-go for me. If I really liked them and the kid was young enough, I could probably get past it, but it's not something I like the idea of at all.

Oh, and they have to like women. I don't go after straight chicks.

You have very high standards.

OT: They need to have a compatible sense of humor. I need to like the sound of their laugh. They have to be somewhat of a homebody as I don't like going out all the time.

I wouldn't date someone with children - yet. Maybe in another ten or so years.

Blue or green eyes
Has something more advanced than a brick or toaster for a brain
Atheist or agnostic
No interest in sixual relationship
Good looks, preferably of Finno-Ugric ancestry.
Physically healthy, normal weight and no incurable diseases that kills her in two years.
No smoking nor heavy drinking.

Suffice to say, no such woman exists. If one exists she is 1) already taken 2) too old for me 3) lives in a location inaccessible for myself.
And of course there is the whole problem of me, who is a person most certainly undesirable for most women. There is nothing to like in me.

I think awful grammar and spelling are better indicators of idiocy than lack of knowledge regarding the invention of the light bulb.

Do you mean *must haves* in the sense of "must have legs", "must have standards", "must have good personal hygiene"..

or more as in "must have a sense of humour"?

not that any of those are mutually exclusive, mind you :hehe:

I have it on good authority that those traits can -and do- occur simultaneously in the same person..

..on occasion.

and someday, hopefully, I'll date one

Well, this rules out every single woman that lives, has lived and will live, unfortunately.

Single, able to support himself and any kids he may have, not wider than an average doorway and reasonably sane.

Smart, attractive, gets my jokes, is interested in general knowledge and preferably has a good education or a career (or still a work in progress), and is not religious. Nothing major.

Open mindedness is important too.

And pistolero, you're Sheldon from big bang theory.

That used to be a priority one on my list---but with women now-a-days---that's like fishing for one particular fish in an entire ocean and you're always in the wrong spot. Now for me when it comes to dating a woman---NO [bleeping] KIDS PERIOD!!!! I'm open to having my own kids but I'm not taking over someone else's failed family. Sorry if that makes me picky but even I have standards.

Orifices

Serious response- I'm not TO picky per se. As long as the girl has a decent sense of self-awareness, decent looks, and we have a lot of interests, I'm not to fussed. I look for the emotional traits more so than the physical ones, though I am a LITTLE picky. For example, I'd rather date someone who is mildly in shape, it lets you know they care enough about themselves to try and keep themselves from becoming obese/unhealthy. But someone who's fun, booksmart, and loves the odd things that I love are my key selling points.

Exactly, I mean, I hate Edison as much as every decent person does, but ability to memorise trivia about the history of lightbulbs is not strongly correlated to intelligence.

ETA: As to the topic, my only criterion is that they have to be able to put up with me for an extended period of time. Since to the best of my knowledge such a person does not exist, I do not date.

Being stupid and being uneducated are two entirely different things. Your example was someone uneducated.
