What game lore do you find most interesting?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_wars_books
I've got an original Star Wars book from the first print run before the first movie came out. Of all the books it has some actual minor worth. 100-150 dollars for it. Since it's in near mint condition other than some page yellowing. Now if only I could get it signed, the price would jump up an insane amount.

I've read one or two of the Star Wars books, but truth be told the wiki has all the info you need really.

There are several, but I'm probably forgetting some though.

TES
Fallout
Gears Of War
Portal
Zelda

There are theories about how
Spoiler
a deliberately caused national emergency would allow FEMA to take control of the country, taking the power away from the government.
Yep, that's a classic and Deus Ex is a great game. But I think the
Spoiler
FEMA conspiracy theory it reached it's peak in the X-Files Arc.

Wookiepedia does have everything you need, but its kind of like the difference between reading everything about Fallout on the Vault and actually playing it.

As for the book, what is it about? Is it the story from the movies or something different?

Call of Duty: A story about a world locked in continuous warfare. A world inhabited by a series of near-mute super-soldiers who slaughter thousands of their foes. A world where bullet wounds are cured by sitting still for a moment. A world where Germany had about 50 nuclear projects going during WW2 and the Russians are an incredibly evil and dangerous people hell-bent on world domination.

TES is great fun if you're willing to invest time into understanding exciting ideas that have no trace IRL except religions and myths.

I forgot Masquerade Bloodlines.

I'm ashamed that on this forum of all places it took until post #35 to get a mention for VTM:B the lore on that universe is fantastic. I recently started playing the VTM:B game and i loved the backstory so much that my girlfriend bought me all the PnP books to read for christmas. Theres alot to get through but its fascinating to read. If only the real world where this interesting, I'd have a PHD in history by now.

I have never heard of a Star Wars book in my life. Weird.
yep, I read all the time, this combined with my starwars fanboyism means I own about 80% of the books. But theres so many i'd go bankrupt if i bought the rest. Don't even start me on the comics, I dont think my bank account can withstand it.

Well... when you say it out loud it does sound a bit silly.

For me its the following;
  • Halo; suprisingly, I really like reading about the forerunners
  • TES; endleslly facinating once you get your head around all of the cultural names for the gods etc and it starts making sense. I probably avoided any divinity related lore for months when I was first introduced to TES.
  • Fallout; I love the human element to it, when you come across a terminal and read the emails it feels like that person really could have existed, the terminal in the H&H tool factors in FNV where especially interesting. Then theres the technology/science/pre-war conspiracies.
  • Diablo; I just wish they would explore it a bit more in-game
  • MAG; probably a strange entry, but the way they tell the story of MAG outside of the game (since its online action only, no campaign etc) is great, especially when you learn of the tensions building up to the events in MAG and the political situation as it stands currently.
  • Baldurs Gate -- the ingame books are almost as plentiful as TES
  • Hellgate -- even after it's re-launch the lore is pretty stronge and unchanged, but what more can you expect from the makers of Diablo?
  • Deadspace.

I'd say LOTR and Star Wars, but since both draw lore largely from books/comics and the films it wouldn't seem fair.

But I really dont understand the love assassins creed is getting in this thread, I could literally find the exact storyline/conspiracies and same two dimentional characters in an airport paper back. Which I did, about two year ago. It's called Templars Code if your curious.

Fallout. Post-apocalyptia is always awesome, but this series goes above and beyond by showing how civilization ultimately rebuilds itself successfully. NV in particular also showcased a nice blend of political intrigue, always a plus for me.

Thief. Not a whole lot of low-fantasy steampunk settings out there, which earns it a lot of points. What especially sells it for me are the snippets we hear of Hammerite, Mechanist, and Pagan texts, all of which sound like genuine religion passages.

Suikoden. The whole series plays out akin to a number of historical events all over the world with a lot of (possibly) sinister things going on in the background. Makes it intriguing to follow, especially since certain characters make appearances from one game to the next with varying degrees of plot importance, which makes the world feel even bigger.

Shin Megami Tensei. It combines various end-of-the-world scenarios (impending and post-apocalyptic) with urban fantasy and every single mythology and religion out there turned on its head.

Indeed. I wish to find more about Europe. I belive it all merged into one superpower, then got into a war with the mid east over resources.

I would like to see more of them, maybe have a future fallout where you see other places sending scouts around, and a few have found America or something.
Maybe then if they brought back the enclave too it could put them in a good light, and crush any new civilistaions, leaving future games more post apocalyptic. Even Mr Avellone wants the NCR/Legion/vegas gone.
I'd rather the Enclave stay dead and never come back anymore. They've been blown to kingdom come not once but twice, I'm [censored] sick of them, and have never seen where their popularity came from.

I forgot Masquerade Bloodlines.
Good choice, but that has the (somewhat unfair) advantage of an entire tabletop game backing it. Still waiting for another good SINGLE PLAYER World of Darkness game to come out. Don't care if it's Vampire, Hunter, Werewolf, Geist, Changeling, Mage, or Genius (yes, yes, I know that's a fan-made one), they're all awesome. Just somebody, please, make something!

^ It took me 90+ hours of playtime to beat Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey on my old DSI:XL.

Best game for that system hands down.

Fallout's lore.

World of Warcraft

Starcraft

Bioshock

TES's lore is a bit convoluted for me.

I Loved Bioshock Lore. :D

TES (At least to me) seems convoluted because there is simple much, much, much lore. (And interpretations of that Lore). But overall it's one of the best lores out there. IMHO

Did she get you nWoD (new world of darkness) or classic WoD (world of darkness)? I'm in a nWoD game where we started off as normal humans. One by one we're all getting converted though, or gaining powers of some kind. I'll most likely be the last guy to get any, if I get some at all. My character is a bit of a Rorsarch, I managed ot kill off our main villain the GM prapaired before he had a chance to introduce him. Hahahah, good times. Brings a tear to me eye. I'm playing a weak writer/university drop out so I'm not even that good at fighting.

Have you had a chance to play yet?

The Suikoden lore I guess. Kinda similiar to TES where all games takes place in the same world but at different places at different times. It was kinda butched with the spin-off for the Nintendo DS though, but meh. Hope the upcoming PSP game won't do the same, and that it's released outside of Japan.

System Shock, Thief, Deus Ex and Bioshock are interesting too.

Then there's Mutant 2089 too, a swedish pen & paper cyberpunk RPG

I like the lore in the original Deus Ex and Human Revolution a lot. Everything that happens is so ridiculous when you bring real-world logic into it (as with most conspiracy theories), but they do such a good job of providing tons of background information and lore that it's still really interesting.

Why surprisingly? I know Halo isn't widely liked around here, but I find, especially if you look past just the games and read the books and stuff, that the Halo universe is well thought out and more then just Humans vs Aliens = boring like I feel most people think it is. Not being a "really devoted fan" (lol pre-emp the autocensor) and I don't expect everyone to change their minds or whatever, but I find many people don't like Halo's lore because they think "Oh boy, race of super aliens bent on humans destruction" of generic storyline... hehe [/really devoted fan-ism]

Warcraft lore is pretty interesting, back when I played WoW I've spent hours on the wiki just reading the lore articles.

Thief: The Dark Project

Thief: The Metal Age

The Elder Scrolls series

Bioshock

Oh, and I can't believe I forgot! :woot:

Battletech/Mechwarrior

Huh, never heard of those games. I better check em out

EDIT: Now that I think about it, they sound a bit familiar. Odd.

Battletech for Genesis was fn hard. 2 players was insane though because 1 pilots the mech while the other fires the weapons.
