What's the big idea with everyone playing as a Nord?

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 12:34 pm

I didn't play a Nord.

My first / main character was a Breton Necro-Warrior (a warrior who steals the souls of his victims, and reanimates their dead bodies to fight alongside him).

My secondary character that I am contemplating is a Bosmer Necro-Druid (a mage who has an affinity with the forest, and all the creatures within it, as well as a command over supernatural creatures and spirits).

I haven't even considered playing a Nord. I never had an interest to play a Nord in Morrowind or Oblivion, why would I now in Skyrim?

If you don't play as a Redguard, you are racist.

I for one, absolutley love orcs! As a kid, I used to be an avid RPG fan and generally loved playing dwarves and orc races if they were available becuase I just loved their primitive brutish ways. However, ever ytime I play something else other than Nord, the game seems to have this tendancy into forcing me to regret that choice. I mean in no other RPG game(and I've played a lot)have I heard such racial comments towards the player, negative attitude by other races, people mocking your race etc. in a game. Skyrim as a game really worries me about what were the dialogue writers thinking when they wrote all that.

I play a Nord because that's what I was in TESIV Oblivion. I've always liked them being just tall, muscley warriors kinda like Vikings (and they essentially are in a sense). Plus, I love the Shield/Sword aspect and it just hit home with me.

Thus why I made one in Skyrim for my 1st character, kinda like a rebirth. In same said case I revised my Dark Elf from Oblivion as well in Skyrim. And will say playing my Dark Elf is much more fun and diverse.. and not FORCED. This character hasn't done any of the Main Quest.

Skyrim is such a different game when you play w/o Dragons. Much more peaceful..

Ever play morrowind? a LOT of dark elves are [censored]es towards you for your race, and they don't hesitate to remind you that Morrowind is THEIR turf(especially the Camonna Tong and the 6th House)

EXACTLY my point! That's why I hate the haters of Ulfric. Ya gotta think.. it's like the Legion attacking the Khajiit's in Elsweyr, or Dark Elf's in Morrowind, etc. etc. and tried basically taking it over for THEIR rule.

If you're homeland was being attacked would you just sit idly by and let them take over? I don't think so..

EDIT: Tamriel was split up for a reason, lolz. I'm sure if you were a Nord and went into Elsweyr you'd get dirty looks from EVERYONE! :D

Uh?

You think the writers of Fallout New Vegas are pro-slavery? Or that Brad Dourif is a racist because he played one in Mississipi Burning?

Seriously, why the virtual racism?!

Because Tamriel doesn't have the ACLU?

no no you got me all wrong. i was saying that there are a lot of racist comments in the game which they could've cut down a bit to save some time to actually remove the damn bugs(yes i just mocked bugthesda). faloout had to have slavery in it, because that was the theme of the game and it really fit in, but tes and norwegian racism? dunno really....

Akatosh can choose to make the Dragonborn out of whatever he wants. He is a god, after all.

In Morrowind, I chose an Argonian as Nerevar because that would provide the greatest test of faith to the Dunmer of Vvardenfel. From then on, all my main characters have been Argonian.

Is that an answer? You're asking why people are playing a Nord as if that is a bad thing. What's your reason for that?

And I'd like to see where all this terrible racism is. Geez, you people must have skins as thin as Maven Blackbriar's conscience. There are a couple drunks in Windhelm and the rest just want to rule their own country. I suppose it's racism that most real-world people groups prefer to do that.

Khajiit, orc, and breton here. Not really interested in a nord playthrough at all.

Being dragonborn is a function of fate, divine will, and the dreamsleeve and has nothing to do with genetics.

The only reason I play as a Nord is because it seems to make more sense story-wise. I think the dragonborn is supposed to be a Nord hero. I didn't see any Argonians in Sovngarde. Or were there? I can't remember.

My Nords have always been imperial beat sticks that spread the word of the emperor. Those that oppose him get ran over and replaced. Be it man, beast or god.

Khajiits not allowed in any city, Argonians not allowed into Windhelm and being paid 1/10 of a Nord worker would get, Dunmers lives in slum and is harassed by the Nords everyday, yup no racism at all.

I'm guessing people play as Nords either because:

They just like that race the most.
They have generic taste and have to play as the poster boy.
They feel alienated playing as anything else thanks to the game being tailored to Nords and being incredibly lazy about providing a decent roleplaying experience for other races.

None of the Septims were there either, and neither was Alessia. Clearly dragonborn don't necessarily end up in Sovngarde. I've seen more 'dragonborn' draugr than dragonborn heroes in the Hall of Valor.

In the previous two games I played as an Imperial, in Skyrim I decided to be a home grown savior. I thought about being mysterious foreigner who comes to save the day. Each time i play an Elder Scroll game I think that when I finish it I will replay as a thief or assassin but just cant see the point in investing all those hours.
