What's the big idea with everyone playing as a Nord?

Imperial since morrowind and I dont think there are any racist comments against Imperials.

Imperials think they own everything.

I've only played as a Nord once in Skyrim and it didn't last to long compared with my other saves. I mostly choose Imperials most of the time, but since the races actually look good this time, I've played as half of the races presented so far.

I am playing a Nord, one that is not like most Nords in Skyrim. She is a mage from Anvil, Cyrodill (my favourite city in Oblivion) who came to Skyrim for the College of Winterhold because of the politics of the two organisations in Cyrodill.

My current character list:
Breton - Mage (M)
Imperial - Legionaire (F)
Dunmer - Assassin (M)
Nord - Mage (F)

Planned characters:
Argonian - Archer (M)
Altmer - Mage (F)
Redguard - Warrior (M)
Bosmer - Thief (F)

a major flaw in the last three TES games has been that your ability to play as any race usually does not coincide with the actual in game story.

I don't really care.
I always play a Breton, in Morrowind it was bizarre being a Breton yet I'm the Savior of the Dunmer religion
In Oblivion it was bizarre that I was a Breton yet I saved the Imperial Empire
and in Skyrim it's rather bizarre that I'm a Breton yet I'm the Nordic Dragonborn

doesn't really matter to me

I'm surprised I didn't play as a Nord my first time through. I listen to "Viking Metal" all the time. Most of the bands I listen to are from Sweden with a contingent that sing about "Norse Mythology." I tend to relate to the Nords the most.

I'm a bow fanatic and tend to like Bosmer so I chose that first. Plus they look cool. Was weird being a Bosmer Dragonborn though.

Seriously, why the virtual racism?!

Imagine you're an ADD kid who just got that "super [censored] awesome game with sweet kill animations", Skyrim.

You want to get into it and start killing [censored] with an axe, but you start in some "gay-ass" cart and have to listen to some "[censored]" talk for "like, twenty minutes". Well at least the graphics are nice.

So you finally get off the cart and, not wanting to waste any more of your precious time, you just skip character creation alltogether. And because the game defaults to a Nord, you end up as a Nord.

Khajiits not allowed in any city, Argonians not allowed into Windhelm and being paid 1/10 of a Nord worker would get, Dunmers lives in slum and is harassed by the Nords everyday, yup no racism at all.
And Nord beggars? Is that racism, too?

becouse the nord is the closest thing to an actual human.

i cant play with an wood elf (or any char what doesnt look like human), did u see the looks who would ever play with something so beaten up.
they all got ugly faces, the wrong skin tone. wrong looks.... where the nord is just.... a human.

started 4 characters and all of them are nords :)

I'm talking about their existence in the first place. Not everything comes down to race. "Outsiders" always have to work to make their way. Talk to Niranye in Windhelm, or the Hlaalu family. They're Dunmers employing Nords on their farm.

All this beside the fact that all the races look down on each other in Tamriel. And none of it has to do with the OP's question, which is implying (who knows how seriously) that players are racist for choosing Nords.

I realize that "outsiders" have to 10x as hard to become accpeted by the Nords, but in the end why should they? Even Niranye said that Nords in Windhelm said, "at best the Nords are superstitious of outsiders."(not the exact wording IRC) If that is them at their best what is their worse? I have to admit I usually avoid the farms so I'll check that out when I start playing Skyrim again.

Anyway you're right this doesn't have to do with anything that the OP said. I have no idea what he meant either, but it seems that he thinks that a racist wrote this game I think.

I can't be racist. Although I said I was half Danish, and it might be subconsciously appeal in that respect, I'm also half Thai.

/self hating racist. waahh.. i should cut my wrists.

Actually, I think people put too much thought into this. It's just a game. I saw potential Viking badassery. Nothing more.

Racism in a game, to add to the realism and make the world more believable, when the racism is in fact very minor?

Bethesda better grab some good lawyers.

Really, I never felt pushed to be a Nord. I enjoyed the guards acting mildly racist to me. Because it's BELIEVABLE, and makes sense. It's like DA:O, where several humans would throw insults at you if you were an elf. I didn't hear any complaining about that, just compliments to Bioware about making believable racial tension.

Same applies in Skyrim. I don't want everybody to be all fine and dandy with an Altmer prancing around their city.

btw, if you look at the behind the scenes vid that comes with the special edition, the skyrim team looks pretty multiracial. i see caucasians, asians, and african americans at least. whoopdeedoo.

just pointing this out, in case some fool thought this was coded by some kids at Stormfront.

I chose Nord because anything else seems out of place. Plus, after beating the game, the dialogue leans heavily on Nords. If I were to play as an Orc, I would expect strange reactions from the people across Skyrim as word spread that an Orc is Dragonborn. On the other hand, I'd expect cheering from Orcs and dialogue praising Malacath for blessing the Orc's with a Dragonborn.

This question leads me to believe this game is incomplete. There is a whole bunch of incorrect dialogue that happens and complete lack of knowledge regarding the status of -- well, anything. There is almost no recognition of feats by the population. People keep telling you to visit places you lead. Don't get me wrong. The game is great. But, there are some really huge problems that will never get addressed.

Yeah, I was a little perked pre-release when i heard about their NPC/Story engine, and how well it'd dynamically comment on player actions.

It isn't executed well.

I have not played a Nord before.

You should make a poll, you might be surprised by the number of the people who DIDNT make a Nord.
