What's the big idea with everyone playing as a Nord?

Seriously, why the virtual racism?!

I don't have an issue with the other races. But IMO playing any other race because your known as Dragonborn is just plain odd. I would find it strange playing a lizard and being told I'm Dragonborn.

But aside from that I have always played a Nord, always enjoyed the race. :)

<--- Does he look like a Nord to you?

I have tried to start a Nord character, thinking it would fit more in the game world. I just can't do it. It's not nearly as fun as an Orc to me. I know it makes no in-game difference but to me, it just feels out of place.

Well in Morrowind I was a Dunmer, Oblivion I was an Imperial and Skyrim.. well you guessed it, a Nord. Not that I've done it on purpose it just made more sense for my PC given the events of the game. You do have people who play the same race no matter what the game.

It's Skyrim.. it sort blends with the atmosphere and gear. Although anything works too.

I am half "Norse" in real life.. Heh. Maybe that has something to do with it (not really).

i only do a nord for the main quest because the whole dragonborn thing is a nord legend, you are fighting for nords in skyrim and the main quest talks a lot about nord traditions and stuff so it kind of makes playing as another race a little weird considering that character doesn't really believe in some of the stuff or practice certain traditions

I'm not specifically talking to you, but I'm talking to the other 99.9% that've made Nords. Also Cantinal12 I'm with you on that one. When I play as a lizard or manbearpig, I just have this wierd alienated feeling, as if I'm out of place.

Then that's good, as the racism was exactly what Bethesda was aiming for
As for why everyone makes nords, it probably has something to do with the game's poster boy in the background :P
also, it's their freaking homeland. it kinds fits

So am I, and it has everything to do with it

But as the game is set in the home province of the Nords, I feel weird about rolling anything other than a Nord, considering I've rolled Nords in Morrowind and Oblivion.

Including environment it seems like the corresponding races to game have are more invested in the goings on between the different games. My Dark Elf Nerevarine's homeland was in trouble, same for my Imperial in Oblivion and Nord in Skyrim.

85% of Skyrim's population is composed of Nords (citation: my ass). So, it's fairly reasonable to play as a Nord. It isn't racism at all.

In fact, I seem to find more people playing as races other than Nords.

I actually have no desire to really play as a Nord, or Imperial, or Breton. I'm not really a fan of the more "human" type races, but it's all personal preference. I don't think being Dragonborn has any bearing on my choice as I play, it works perfectly with all races. :)

Very few realize that being Dragonborn is not a simple matter of heredity - being the blessing of Akatosh Himself

In the case of the player character, an Elder Scroll foretold of your coming, not a Nord legend.

I admit, playing an outsider would be appealing too. I have a cool Redguard rp concept in my head that I might play later.

Eh, I'd probably play a Nord more often if all of their presets didn't look like vague Ahnald clones. Also the name of their race in general irks me for some reason... Just seems silly.

Lol I guess the Nord in the trailer plays a huge role in the reason why a lot of people play Nords(don't believe me? go watch YouTube). Also in Oblivion the races were balanced out evenly, i.e. there were a lot of orcs, elves, khajiit etc. around and they really didn't show any negative racist attitude towards each other. However, in Skyrim the racist guards will constantly make comments about your race, bandits and people will mock you by race and it overall just seems like a redneck racist made this game!

I was playing an Orc but yesterday a much more interesting character concept than my current one hit me and now I'm going to switch to that.

I understand, I'm just trying to point out that there are plenty of people who play as "outsiders". I for one always play as an Orc on my first playthrough because of their lore. I like to imagine the looks on peoples faces when an Orc, a being that most ostracize, comes to save the day.

I agree with NPCs making racial comments, a lot of citizens don't seem to like the dark elves. Guards also make comments if you have lycanthropy "is that fur... Coming out of your ears"
