Perhaps it's time to find a different game to play then?

I have. I haven't played Skyrim since January.

However, that isn't going to keep me from letting the devs know they made major mistakes and trying to convince someone at Bethesda to create a REAL RPG and not what they have been doing since Oblivion

Perhaps it's time to enlighten the devs, as well as the rest of us, then: what exactly is a "real RPG," in your opinion?

Bethesda needs competition badly in my opinion. Not just to fill the niche with more games, but to prove that what they are doing is not always best. They've become too comfortable and successful. Competition is good, it forces those competing to step up their game, or go home with heavy losses.

  1. The Jarl's holds should be somewhat exclusive. That means if I svck up to the Solitude Jarless, i should not be very welcome in Winterhold. If I join the court of Winterhold, I should be on the outs with any Imperial aligned Jarlhold. We have a setup that makes such a thing inevitable, yet i can still join every hold?

  2. Same with the guilds -- being a member should have rewards, but also consequences. Mages and Warriors are somewhat different, and it doesn't make sense that the Companions should allow foul magic in their meadhalls. No "good" guild should be OK with a thief or an assassin among them.

  3. For that matter, shouldn't the town at least somewhat notice that I'm a thief or a murderer? Maybe hug their kids close and flee when I walk down the streets in Nightengale or DB armour?

  4. Have the ability to gain access to forbidden areas by use of clothing. Chef's clothes for any time I want in the kitchen, or miner's clothes when i go into the forbidden mine. Maybe be able to get into the back room of the castles by wearing proper hold armor?

  5. More choices in how to do a quest.

  6. dungeons need to be more varied. a fortress should be big and have lots of rooms. A cave should have lots of tunnels and open areas. They shouldn't be simple speghetti string maps with no side areas.

  7. Puzzles that are actually puzzles. make me have to use the environment to solve the puzzle. At minimum they should be as complex as in Ocarina of Time.

  8. Respect the lore. That dude in Whiterun should be preaching Ysmir, not Talos. It's Kyne, not Kenereth, and for the love of pete, can't the Elves believe in thier religion? Why can't the Thalmor mention Auri-el?

  9. More quests in the guilds. Pretty Please?

So, the mistake is that the lost you as a devoted fan but gained 20 others in the process. That's an awesome mistake.

You have no idea who they lost as fans of the series. What they have gained in dumbing down the series will never compensate for the hard core fans that they have lost. If you were around when Morrowind was announced you might actually have seen it. I was around at that time, there were members who knew what RPG's were and loved this series more than you can imagine.

As far as what a "Real RPG" is? Go back and play Arena, Daggerfall and Morrowind. Those were REAL RPG's.

Removing Steam would be a blessing for so many people. I ended up using a crack even after buying the game because I wanted to play it but no way did I want Steam anywhere near my PC.

Open ended level scaling. I've never carried a character past 50th because the game doesn't scale any higher than that.

Spellcasting (add in spellmaking again - please), get a reason for companions, add in more Tamriel lore, fix the awful dialogue, make your choices actually matter sometimes, less find-and-fetch and less linear quests, and less loading times. God, the loading times.

  • Attributes back in
  • Proper character creation back in
  • Skills such as athletics, acrobatics and climbing in
  • Much slower character progression, so you don't become rich and all-powerful for hundreds of hours
  • Far less emphasis on perks when it comes to skill progression
  • Less level-scaling when it comes to enemies, shop inventories, treasure, etc.
  • Much tougher, but slightly less frequent dragons
  • A complex, realistic-style combat system similar to Mount & Blade, with no cinematic crap like finishers
  • No forced 3rd-person at any time during the game
  • Darker and less linear dungeons
  • A traditional style parchment map in game
  • An ordinary compass with no markers at all
  • No hand-holding features in general
  • No essential NPCs (or at least nowhere near as many)
  • A less cinematic intro that doesn't immediately throw you into the main questline
  • A much larger gameworld (x2 at least) even if the added size is just generated wilderness areas
  • Longer faction questlines with a more believable sense of progression
  • Mostly text-based dialogue with voice acting only for greetings / world ambience (like Morrowind)
  • More dialogue options
  • More unique items (visually unique, not just enchanted). They don't all need to be super swords of awesomeness. Even mediocre unique items can be fun to collect
  • Greater creature/enemy variety
  • Visible feet in 1st person
  • Beast legs for Argonians / Khajiits
  • More meaningful consequences for choices / actions
There's a lot more, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head.
I agree with just about everything you have said, except for text-based dialogue; me personally, I don't mind text-based dialogue at all, but in this day and age, there is no reason for game developers not to have voiced-based dialogue. Yeah, text-based dialogue worked for Morrowind, but that was Morrowind; this Skyrim. Technology has advanced.

More life?? I mean the cities are too empty, and they are in a civil guard they need more battles or skirmishes around the province (like in Warzones).

And as for the those who would bring up closed cities as an argument against these ideas I would suggest .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7g9WjcGdxuM.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

The ever present loading screens you see on games consoles due to memory restrictions is the reason why so many people play on the PC. Games like Thief - Deadly Shadows were ruined IMO because of that.

In reality, there is no real need to load the cities every time you enter them, just background load them on the fly when you get within a certain range the same as the world map does, same goes for houses in the city. How do you think WOW manages to create entire continents that have no loading screens at all except for instanced dungeons, (and even the dungeons are mostly pre-loaded to reduce the transition time)?

I really want a lot more spells. Possibly spell making, but only if you can actually create or at least change the spells so they look different. Maybe Destruction magic to scale so that I can use lower level spells more effectively or at least the ability to upgrade them, maybe like superior & legendary or something. I don't want to have to focus on Alchemy and Enchanting to make them more powerful. I don't like the idea of guzzling an infinite amount of potions or using enchanting to decrease my casting cost to 0%

What I want to add t o skyrim? A lot of things corrected by mod but which I would like to have had to begin with:

-A real UI, not this console crap (I have nothing against consoles as long as I don't have to bear their defaults on pc)
-A hardcoe mode (hunger, frost, camping, emphasis on fishing, and hunting...)
-More secondary guild quests between each main quest (with a reputation system maybe? It worked very well in morrowind and I remember a mod for oblivion which made you steal a certain amount of things before accessing to the next quest, that was basic but very well thought)
-A better main quest. There is little feeling of discovery, no plot to follow, it's bad, even compared to oblivion one. Spectacular yes but still not very good. It starts very well though, everything including the first meeting with the greybeard is awesome... After that there's nothing surprising or impressive until the very end (and it's a little far fetched, not very well brought to the player)
-More quest in the wilderness, less emphasis on the towns.

Character customization after the initial creation window at the beginning. More armor variations (Steel and Iron armors have variations, but none of the others). More enchantable mage robes and colors. Unenchanted special armors (like thieves guild and dark brotherhood).

A bank would be nice. Like, the banking system in Daggerfall was cool, but then, if you don't pay your debts in time, then the bankers would send mercenaries after you! Also, maybe crossbows would be nice, like if they could be launched further but took longer to be loaded and such. More random events could be nice, such as an old man wandering the road, and when he sees you, he takes off his disguise, revealing himself to be a mugger of sorts. More cooking options would be welcomed, as well as a skill tree for cooking. The arena should make a reappearance in a later DLC, and there could be an underworld system. Maybe you could get into shady card games, as well as start your own Skooma factory. Assassins from the Dark Brotherhood could take a stealthier approach, such as hiding in a bush and shooting at you with an enchanted bow before you even know where they are, instead of just slashing their way at you and getting slaughtered immediately. :ermm:

get a reason for companions,

We already have an awesome reason why we should have a companion... They can unlock any locked door! Even the ones that Requires Keys!

Can't argue with that man!

~Edit~

Unless you mean The Companions then all I gotta say is wtf? Becoming a werewolf and having another questline isn't good enough for you or what?
