Why do Bethesda insist on NOT having capes in TES? (console

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 12:07 pm

It's seriously annoying. Everyone ALWAYS wants them, and Bethesda never include them.

I know people will make mods for it but for us on consoles it really svcks!

Just add some damn capes from the beginning, you MUST know people want it right? it's always a popular mod in previous games and it can't be THAT hard or time-consuming to add?

How about showing console players some love and adding some "official bethesda dlc" of some of the simpler and popular mods?

Considering the horrible state of the Ps3 version for several months I think it's not much to ask for. I'd even pay for it.

There are three outfits that come with capes in Skyrim for you to choose from:

Redguard garb
Hammerfell garb
Nightingale armor

Some mage robes kind of have capes. The nightingale armor has one, thats what I use most of the time and it works for me.

Think the OP would more enjoy an actual stand alone cape item that you could perhaps even Enchant.

Have there been cape mods for Skyrim yet? I remember there were capes for Oblivion but they were pretty rubbish, I think why Bethesda hasnt added capes for skyrim has something to do with clipping issues and whatnot.

Two are clothing, so only mages can actively use them. The last one requires you to join the Thieve's Guild. Not a really promising list unless you are a thief, mage or both.

Yeah I know that mate.

I was more talking about stand-alone capes that you could fit on your Ebony armor, etc.

Source?

OP: I'm sure it's because of physics, I don't think players would want a stiff cape that didn't move realistically.

I totally agree. There should be a much better list to choose from and customization. Personally I can't imagine why you wouldn't wear a cloak when traveling throughout Skyrim, considering it seems to rain nearly every other day.

I'm pointing out there are options. Not many, and there should definitely be a lot more, but there are options, weak as they are.

I do want separate cloaks/capes though. Even if they can't be disenchanted.

Ok, let me rephrase. A LOT of people want them, obviously I can't speak for everyone.

I'm not so sure though mate, Sure capes can be tricky to pull off but it's 2012, 2011 on release, it should be doable. Besides some of the armor in the game actually comes with a cape.

Yeah it's a pretty cold and windy landscape... a furry, warm cloak seems like something you'd wear on your travels... Besides it'd look badass =)

So players who don't like it can choose not to use it. Isn't that the mantra around here to cast off complaints?

I think clipping would be more of an annoyance, but there's still plenty of other bothersome clipping so I could live with it.

I would love to wrap myself in a black and red cloak enchanted with Levitation.

Ever see Ezio on a horse in Assassins creed? his cape becomes stiff as a board. The horses are bad enough in Skyrim (though i do so truly love the game) it would just another thing that would make horses... or pretty much any thing else impossible...

And not to mention they are not really used in combat, or at least i would not think so, they would probably have been used by higher ranking generals to show their status. they would just get in the way and get tangled up on stuff during battle, same as why Julius Cesur made his army shave, no more beards because he was afraid that the enemy would pull their beards in battle...

though it would be cool, to much animation and what when more then half the audience plays in first person.

I Would love to see capes in Skyrim, but I would also like to see some more options in hoods for light armor, the only hoods are for the TG and DB.

Probably the most trivial complaint I've read on these boards.

The cape animations aren't horrible on the Nighingale Armor when you are riding a horse, that is if my memory is right, I never ride horses. So why can't we have capes like that?

Clipping

Extra thing to render

poor quality animation

3 primary reasons choose one good enough for BGS.
