Why!?

In order to do an MMO you need defined classes.

No you don't. All they needed to do was balance the 12~ offense/defense skills, and then add 6~ utility/crafting skills to choose from.

Otherwise, you'd have people sitting in the courtyard of a town, looking for a group/party, but shouting the following criteria:

I NEED A LEVEL 15 MAGE.
BUT IT HAS TO BE A DESTRUCTION MAGE.
WITH SOME CONJURATION.
AND SOME RESTORATION.
ALSO IT WOULD BE GOOD IF YOU HAD SOME STEALTH.
OH AND ALCHEMY!
AND PLEASE HAVE ENCHANTING LEVELED TO AT LEAST 20.
AND IF YOU KNOW COOKING THAT WOULD BE GREAT.
LOCKPICKING TOO.
BUT DON'T HAVE SPEECHCRAFT, WE WANT TO FIGHT EVERYTHING NOT TALK!
ALSO NO ARGONIANS!

This won't happen, there is no tight trinity so I doubt there will be a tight need for specific skills.

Having defined classes simply makes gameplay easier in an MMO environment. Being able to bring up a search menu and type in "Warrior" is a lot simpler to do than having to have a refined search menu that asks the player to put in the following:

One-Handed Skill: => 30
Block Skill: => 60
Heavy Armor Skill: => 50

It just makes it much, much easier. Thus why it's used.

I guess you can make a semi-excuse for that, but not the combat or art-style.

Art style has relevance to... what exactly?

Combat is also much easier to handle in an MMORPG environment than what Skyrim provides.

I seriously have little faith left in the TES series and to think it used to be my favorite video game series.

It's an interesting idea. Many people have wondered what it would be like including me. I can't wait for this and if its a bad game all the other scrolls are still going to be there to play. If your not interested why are you looking at these forums? Just a thought.

My feelings are the same. I fear the worst for TES single player games.

If you do not like MMO's then do not play it, there are some of us who love them and we are going to eat it all up.

Do not panic, Bethseda will keep making single player games purely because of the existence of Consoles as MMO's do not work to well on Consoles and this MMO will prob not be released on a console.

Zenimax will do a good job and because its a different company you do not have to worry about Bethseda's resources being all used up for the MMO :)

Not entirely true as BGS is owned by Zenimax. Therefore any money Zenimax loses will affect BGS.

Rage and Brink were only published by BS not owned by Zenimax.

Yes but Zenimax owns heaps of companies, just like some companies own multiple supermarket chains that most of the time stay open and are very successful. I am sure Bethseda will continue to work on Single Player Elder Scrolls games at least for the sake of consoles and Zenimax Online will keep on making great content for their MMO.
As far as resources go, yes I am sure they are going to share talent like voice actors and writers.

I sure hope you are right. But remember that an MMO is a huge investment, bigger than a single player game. This is probably their biggest investment ever.

Brink was published by Zenimax and so was RAGE. But Zenimax Media Inc. owns both BGS and id (developer for RAGE). The losses will register for the publisher.

I really wouldn't mind to see how this TES:O goes... As long as it doesn't end my single player elder scrolls adventuring. Anything that comes between elder scrolls 6 and I... belongs in a fiery pit of hell fire.

Wow how innovative, another WoW clone hits the market. If it would have another name and a different lore with some new mechanics then maybe i could get curious. They just jumping on the bandwagon but they are a bit late because mmo's are already on the decline.

I have loved the elderscrolls range since morrowind, but I still cant believe they are making a mmo when I always got the impression they never wanted to even do a standard multiplayer. But there have been rumours for a wile on this topic so I guess I have got used to it to a degree.

I think I will certainly play this, as it has great potential, but it could also ruin the whole concept as elderscrolls rpg games as well. I guess I will just have to wait and see. I guess I am hopeing they do a great job,

The Lore has been kind of... brutaliste? I mean why haven't we heard anything about Molag Bals attempts to svck Tamriel into Coldharbour before? There is no such thing documented, nothing like that happened during the 2E. Why not pick a real event instead, like the The Akaviri-invasion or something.

And the Saxhleel and the Moriche forming an alliance? Really?

Anyone who thinks this will replace ES 6 is a complete idiot. Skyrim sold better than any Elder scrolls game yet. That's like saying farmers will stop making food. It's simply another product made by another studio. Bethesda will continue making fallout and Elder Scrolls. If anything it will give us a distraction until ES6 comes out.

I don't care how it turns out, all MMO role-playing games ultimately svck because they leave absolutely no opportunity to actually role play.

I shudder when I think of the day that we will find ourselves wandering a Tamriel filled with 12-yo morons who call everyone they pass "[censored]" and "noobs." This is NOT what I play the Elder Scrolls series for.

Have you ever played an MMORPG? You're stereotyping them horribly. It's quite easy to roleplay in one. I am the RP officer of a guild of over four-hundred in the Old Republic. We tend to go to lowbie zones and RP with them.

But in single player games, you have alot more freedom to roleplay than in MMO's (partly because of balancing issues)

Personally, I prefer RP with multiple people as opposed to just myself. However, that's just me.
