why no werebears?

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 7:57 am

i was so excited to become werebear for the dawnguard. then i finished dawnguard and thought maybe it was a side quest. turns out that leaked werebear info was bull-crap. maybe in the next dlc but who knows.it would have made me think the dawnguard actually had a chance deafeating the vampires without me. but NO, all i get is a lousy crossbow.

Yeah. The Beta testers felt kind of bad that you guys got trolled like that. Well, some of them did. The rest of us thought it was hilarious in a sick sort of way.

But one guy lied and brought a huge amount of grief to a bunch of hopeful people.

He got banned for it if it helps you feel any better...

But no, there's no Werebears. There never were any.

It wouldn't be that beneficial to gameplay. They'd just be slightly altered werewolves. And there'd have to be at least 1 or 2 more quests for it.

There's two forms of vampirism now, and no quests involving the vanilla strain that you have to do to become one.

Lycanthropy should not be exclusively obtainable from quests. It's a disease. It can spread through bites. Wild Werewolves (and the conspicuously absent Werebears) should offer a vector from which you can gain the affliction, just as you could from vampires.

Provided you survived the encounter of course.

I didn't believe it when absolutely no none ( there were a few leaks on the net despite the NDA), mentioned werebears, Todd didnt mention anything, demos showed nothing, I didnt have my hopes up.

I venerate him. That guy is awesome. He's a testament to us true trolls. I just don't troll on this forum.

Anyways...what would werebears bring? What gameplay mechanic could an overgrown bear POSSIBLY bring that a wolf doesn't?

Did you call the crossbows lousy?! I'd take those over another beast form any day. That satisfying creaking and clanking of the epitome of Dwarven weaponry...marvelous.

That's like saying "Why do we need maces, they're just slower more powerful versions of swords with the same animations".

They could bring back the old Bloodmoon lycanthropy mechanic in werebears. It used to be that you had to feed to satiate your transformations, and you transformed when the moon phases altered. Anything remotely different than the vanilla werewolves would be a breath of fresh air. Use your imagination a little bit, anything is possible.

Sadly they didn't come with dawnguard. The "leak" was actually a still taken from gamejam.

Could someone please explain to me why there is so much interest in being a werebear? Cause it sounds cool?

I hope they never add werebears and if they do, hopefully not as a usable feature. Werewolf would be so similar. Please Beth focus on other things that need to be addressed.

It's the same reason I want Elsweyr to have deserts and rain forests: Because that's what the lore states.

It's important for people to follow the rules of their own mythology. You can't just toss things out the window because you don't feel like following what you've established.

Replace werebear with Vampire Lord, and werewolf with vampire. Bethesda were the ones who did this to us, its in the lore and in game jam even :P

Ok yeah I get it is in the lore, and I wouldn't mind them being added as a creature to be fought, maybe even a side quest about it. But not playable as a transformation. Just my opinion although

In my opinion the difference in gameplay between werebear and werewolf would be minimal. So the inclusion of werebears would only be to stay true to the lore.
