Not sure if you're just be facetious or not, but Warrior431 was referring to Captain Jack Harkness, someone vastly superior to lame-o Jack Sparrow

Of course I was just being silly, I mean Jack Sparrow is just a movie character :D

If I could still kill myself, I would take it.

If not, I would never accept it. Imagine outliving humanity, outliving the earth. You'd float through space for eternity. That's way worse then not existing.

Death is just like the time when you weren't born. That's not too bad.

Nah, I'd just as soon put these old bones to rest and make room for another to be born.

I don't want to die, but I wouldn't take immortality if it meant just growing older and never dying. If I could live forever as I am right now, without ageing, then I might consider it.

Nah. Double average life span with 100% slower aging? Sure. That would give me enough time to do what I want to do.

I would, with no other conditions. I wouldn't care to kill myself.

Would I take it? Nah.

Plus, lets get one thing straight, are we talking about immortal but vulnerable, or immortal and invulnerable?
You can choose yourself which it would be. For example, if it was immortal and invulnerable to all crippling/negative things, for example you wouldn't be doomed to live forever as only a head or something similar, would you take immortality?

immortality sounds so pointless
Whoo-oo there buddy. Pointless? What is -the point- in life then, other than living it?

Well, for a serious answer I would say no. But I do agree with some posters, if there is slower aging the I may consider it.

Yeah, assuming I can still kill myself. More than anything I'd just want to watch the play that is humanity in it's entirety.

I do believe in an afterlife, but not a conscious one, so 'watching from beyond' isn't an option.

immortality in the terms of living on this earth forever? why would anyone ever do that? this world is a disgusting, horrible place. as far as spiritually goes, i've already taken it..but i shall not continue to discuss it..

I'm curious is to what your reasoning behind this is, how could living forever in a world where you can only accomplish a very miniscule amount of things in the average lifetime be pointless?

Because say you do accomplish everything, then what? it's like when you complete a game 100% then it's lost a majority of it's appeal, but unlike a game, you won't be able to make a new save unless you decide to throw your life to the wind, RP a new life as someone else.

I wouldn't disagree with extended mortality, but Immoratility is a bleak and lonely existence.

if you can't get something done in a normal lifetime, i don't think you'll ever get around to do it. people are too lazy with the time they have already, plus, limited time pushes us to do what we want.

i completely agree, if you didn't do it in the 70 or so years you lived, you won't do it, ever..

I want to visit Mars when or if we finally visit, terraform, and colonize it. I doubt the next 53 years will give me the opportunity.

I just watched an episode of the Twilight Zone. A hypochondriac man sells his soul to the devil for immortality, with the promise of an escape clause. The man plays around with suicide, jumping in front of trains and buses, ingesting chemicals, before getting bored enough to kill his wife. He plans to try the electric chair but they sentence him to prison until the end of his days without chance of parole. He then calls upon the devil to take his life.

Who in their right mind would take immortality to complete a menial task? I would use it to watch humanities drama unfold, not for chores.

I would take immortality for sure. Only if I could end myself when I find the time fit.

Outliving all my family and friends would be fairly depressing.

You don't need to be super powerful to rule the world.
You got time on your side.

You can make your own family.
