Would you take immortality?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 11:34 am

If I was with someone I'd want to spend eternity with, then yeah, I probably would. Although if I am going to be like I would be at age 70 for an eternity, then no thank.

I dunno how it would affect me as a person, seeing as I could do whatever I want and have little to no consequences.

Yes. Not because I'm afraid to die, but because life is too short and I'd love to experience the changing of the world over the generations.

I think that whole "living forever removes the excitement of living" idea is hogwash. It's been drummed into us across the media and art board simply because, as mortal beings who die, we want to make ourselves feel better.

About dying.
My thoughts exactly.

no as you get older your brain deteroates
youll forget your family, your friends
a year will be a second
a millieum would be a day
so no
keep your immortality and ill keep my flight
You brain wouldn't deteriorate if your cells never aged.

I don't get why people think being immortal means you still age, if you are aging, you are dying. If you choose to be immortal your aging process is frozen in time, you'd remain the age you are now forever.

In that case, I'd rather wait a few years until I become immortal :P

I agree with the insanity thing too. There's no way you could stay sane after 1,000 years!

I'd take immortality if I have unlimited money. I'm not going to want to work 9 to 5 for the rest of eternity or anything.

This too. Imagine being sat at a desk for eternity!? That has to be hell on earth. Be careful what you wish for and all that.

Just go to the media. I'm sure they'd throw bundles of money your way if you proved you couldn't die.

That would be worse.

Besides, if I could prove I was immortal, I'd go rule a small superstitious country instead.

Absolutely, as long as I didn't age, or end up with Alzheimers or that Locked in syndrome (worst fear ever in my book).

Indeed. You would have all the worlds governments after you. Once you proved that you couldn't die. If they caught you, you would become a lab rat while they Tryed to figure out why you can't die.

As far as i know Immortality is ever lasting life, you cant die from illness or normal injury within reason, but you can die a violent death, its a bit like highlander, aging was always questionable, most of the immortals that were portrayed, some were young some were old, it was more of the human image that a father god would be old and the children young, but generally since you didnt die you sort of dont age either, because how would you get so old that you die of old age when you cant you dont die so your cells dont die.

But the answer to your question from my perspective is no, its sort of like the pointless brainless people that love the idea of being a vampire, you may be immortal but you still get bored, and it also doesnt mean just because your immmortal means your instantly rich you could end up living in a carboard box under an overpass, one thing id love is to be immortal and having to work for years serving behind a counter, oh the everlasting joy of it all, also imagine getting imprisoned, immortally only makes you live longer doesnt mean it gives you any better quality of life.

I was thinking more along the lines of endless press, paparazzi, and David Letterman appearances.

Play along for a bit and then disguise yourself until all the people who cared forget or die of old age.

Of course, there are other easy ways of getting money for someone who doesn't fear death...

What if you became senile?
I don't think that's part of a deal. The immortality I'm thinking is the one where I don't age and I can take bullets to the gut but I can be killed if I am entirely destroyed, every last cell obliterated.
I will give you 200 years max before your mental condition makes you unable to do even that.

Then even if it didnt, humanity will die. You will be alone, you will be bored, and likely insane as a result.
I also dislike the idea of having to kill myself. It implies I am giving up on life. Unless I can kill myself inddirectly somehow.
Why? If I stay young forever I don't see how that's a problem. If I'm aging that's inconsistent with immortality, since if my bones for example grow old so would my brain and if my brain ages it will die.
The way I die is irrelevant. When my cellular structures are destroyed there is no way I will continue existence. I stand adamant with my lack of belief in anything supernatural and thus consider end of physical existence end of all existence.

I want to be a Starchild! I could go party on Jupiter with Dave Bowman.

For those of you who don't get it; read 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Someone define what immortality is?
Are we talking Wolverine, Claire Bennent (Heroes), Captain Jack Harkness (Doctor Who/ Torchwood)?

While governments might want to do that, publicizing your immortality wouldn't necessarily result in that.

First off, you'd be a citizen of a country. That Country's government would have a vested interest in protecting their immortal citizen from other governments, and you'd still be entitled to all the rights of a citizen. Secondly, by publically revealing your nature, you'd be a media darling. If you suddenly disappeared, the media would be constantly covering the search for you. Finally, your immortal. There's going to be people who think you're some sort of divine figure. You'll have cults rising to your defense. Also, you can simply outlast governments.

erm...
people can be "immortal", or have eternal life. But I'm not allowed to talk about religion on this forum, so whatever. I just know I'm living for enternity.

If it's the immortality that Ras Al Ghul has, than I will take it in a freaking heartbeat. Death is something that I have absolutely no plans for in my future, as I have far to many plans that can't all be done over the course of one lifetime.

That being said, I would take extremely planned out steps to insure that my secret is not revealed to anyone, and that I can eventually grant the gift of immortality to those that I choose. Give me two hundred-three hundred years of life, and I can breed a generation of good people to always watch over Earth.

I am now going to write a book about that!

Maybe, but I'd probably need to change identity all the times. Don't want the government to catch wind that I'm immortal.
