Not gonna lie, it is. How people don't see anything wrong with this statement is beyond me. How can you with a straight face stand there and say "Well TECHNICALLY it isn't actually riding the dragon." Lol, wut?

I don't think it is useless at all. I got attacked by two hitsquads, one thalmor and one vampiric. Sandwiched in the middle, I couldn't believe my luck when a legendary dragon started attacking. I used bend will, fried up some elven and necro butts, and went my merry way. It is not useless, just because it can't be used to explore. It is like an upgraded version of calling odahviing since you can control who what and when it attacks.

Actually you kinda proved my point there. (No offense)

Really you need a dragon nearby in order for it to be useful. You said "I couldn't believe my luck when a legendary dragon started attacking. I used bend will". In that statement you kinda proved my point that you have to be lucky in order to have a dragon nearby in order to make any use of this new mechanic.

Sure you can get on a dragon and fast travel. But hay the place you gotta go to probably has not been discovered.

So over all if you cannot get that dragon to be where you need to be. It's useless most of the time. Sure it has a few moments In Terms of combat. But most of us did not get the dlc for the dragon riding combat. We got it to fly around tamriel instead of using the fast travel.

So although it is not completely useless. It is very close to it.

In comparison to what it could have been........I don't even want to go there in terms of usefulness.

Needing a dragon nearby is hardly an issue when there are dragons on word walls all around Skyrim and Odahviing at the throat of the world. It is not close to useless, unless you will it to be. Not to mention dragon attacks happen ALL the time.

I have a question about dragon riding... If you fast travel while riding one, do you do the normal fast travel or your dragon flies there?

mention dragon attacks happen ALL the time in Falkraeth

Fixed cause this is true for me... They don't attack anywhere else... (Did I spell Falkraeth wrong?)

I would hope they got the dlc for the side quests, story and everything else the dlc has to offer, not something that most people should've known in the first place was going to be a bit on rails due to the limitations of the consoles and the game engine.

That's a bugger. I mean, I can understand why it would be like that while on a horse but on a dragon? It would be way much cooler just to actually fly there!

Maybe a loading screen, or a load to a separate cell designed for it? That would be cool, but that sounds like it'd take up a lot of data.

Welcome to the forums.

Three major things people will complain about:

1. Dragon riding
2. Werebears
3. Spears

I can only understand being upset about the last one. Its one of 2 things I really want in a TES game. True hand to hand, and spear wielding.

How? I mean, it would be just like walking everywhere except you are moving faster.

The game wouldn't be able to handle it in the normal area. There'd be a lot of autosaves, and pauses, which would cause a lot of freezing and lag. And the distant scenery looks bad already, so dragonflying would only make that worse. And it would be very anti immersive, since it'd make the world seem smaller.

I get that if you are on the back of the dragon. Then you are technically riding a dragon. Really I will not disagree to that logic.

I agree you should not be in control of everything the dragon does (shouts and all). But if it is like a horse.......... If you are on a horse but are not in control of it. then I suppose you could be considered a person riding a horse....but then again that would kinda lose the point of it right?

Just out of curiosity have you read the eragon series. Also known as the inheritance series.

I wasn't speaking about you personally. I don't know if you said we cant ride a dragon or not. If you did, then I stay by that post. I have not had the pleasure of reading that book series.

I get that people should not be focused only on the dragon riding. But it was a big attraction for most of the people that got the dlc

I'm sorry that they expected control, which admittedly isn't unreasonable IF you're new to the series. TES veterans should've known better though.

Actually people had not reason to expect that you would not be in control of the dragon. I mean due to the game jam video(which actually showing a dragon moving in a way that showed player control), and the fact that there has been many steam workshop dragon riding mods over the past year. Really considering that. I know me, and a lot of people came to that conclusion.

Edit: a few typos

Right now the idea of the current dragon riding mechanic is debatable in terms of usefulness, and the amount of fun it can bring to the average player.

My question to you is "would you prefer to have the current mechanic instead of another one that is similar to my example of a dragon riding mechanic?
